Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in legacy industrial era regions face unique challenges that vary from the challenges faced by SMEs in other regions. Especially, SMEs in legacy industrial regions face problems with respect to the access to knowledge networks. The authors discuss an approach that focuses on enabling the SMEs in legacy regions towards accessing these knowledge networks. The authors base their discussion upon the ongoing debate within the IS community regarding ‘rigor-relevance’ gap, and they take the specific case of SME’s in I-99 corridor to illustrate this. The chapter highlights the challenges faced by SMEs in legacy industrial era regions, and briefly describe the ongoing research project called LAIR (Leveraging Advanced IT Research), aimed at understanding the risks that SMEs in the I-99 Corridor are likely to face as they grow, with a specific focus on risks associated with upgrading, implementing and integrating their existing and new Information Systems.

This research attempts to explore the importance of cluster-based systems in preparation for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to go global, and it is an ongoing research. The findings of this research are aimed at providing insights to policy makers, academicians, and practitioners with the objective of creating initiatives, strategies, and policies, which reflect the primary aim of supporting SMEs in managing global challenges. SMEs that are cluster-based have the potential to facilitate the successful inclusion of SMEs in the growth of productivity and networks of global distribution. Most Asian developing countries are in the dark when it comes to this matter. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relations between the capabilities of the networks and clusters in developing SMEs’ preparedness in facing business players in the global arena. This study’s scope includes specific Asian developing countries. Even though the issue of clusters in SMEs has been well researched in developed countries, such empirical studies are still lacking in the Asian region despite its prevalent collectivism practice. In the concluding analysis, the study intends to develop a model emphasizing the cluster-based industrial SMEs toward globalization.

This research is motivated by the number of companies in Batam that closed and left Batam which caused many unemployment, so the role of MSMEs in Batam is now very much needed. The focus of this study is to determine the application of accounting information systems and the quality of MSME financial reports on business development in Batam City. This research was conducted at Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Batam City, Riau Islands Province. The subjects of this study are business people or MSME businesses that utilize revolving funds from the City Government (Pemko) of Batam, which are recorded at the Batam City Cooperative and MSME Office. The population in this study are business or MSME businesses that utilize revolving funds from the City Government (Pemko) of Batam as many as 2,105 businesses and by using the Slovin formula so that the sample becomes 96 MSMEs. All samples come from SMEs who run businesses in Batam City. Research shows that the application of accounting information systems has a significant effect on business development in Batam City, the quality of MSME financial reports has a significant effect on business development in Batam City, the application of accounting information systems and the quality of MSME financial reports simultaneously has a significant effect on business development in Batam City

Kata Kunci: SIG, UMKM, Android                          The Office of Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Gorontalo as a regional task implementing unit that has the task of developing and developing micro, small and medium businesses in Gorontalo Regency. In carrying out this task, a number of activities are carried out, one of which is collecting data on micro, small and medium enterprises and to socialize to the community. In this article, the challenge that arises is the unavailability of an adequate information system for the community about micro, small and medium enterprises so that people have difficulty understanding the location of small and medium businesses. The purpose of this article is to discuss geographic information systems to determine the location of android-based micro, small and medium businesses that can be accessed by the community so that it can make it easier for the public to find out the location of micro, small and medium businesses in Gorontalo District and can be accessed by people who need it global information services. This article uses the Research and Development method or what is known as the research and development method. The test results using test cases prove the development of information systems to determine the location of micro, small and medium businesses based on Android is more effective and efficient with testing namely V (G) = 14-12 + 2 = 4; V (G) = 3 + 1 = 4; and cyclomatic complexity (CC) = R1, R2, R3, R4 = 4.     Keywords: GIS, UMKM, Android

This article contends that design science research (DSR) has emerged as an important approach in information systems (IS) research. The design science research roadmap (DSRR) model describes the process of using the DSR in IS in great detail. Unfortunately, the existing literature does not address the task of demonstrating the use of the DSRR in detail by conducting a real case study. This article aims to examine the implementation of the DSRR with real IS research activities. The construction of a systematic innovation framework to solve problems for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is used as a case study for demonstration purposes. This article shows that the DSRR provides very useful guidance, since it covers almost all the necessary steps to conduct DSR in the information systems field. The illustrations provided with each step of the DSRR in this article will help other researchers, especially novice researchers, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the use of the DSRR model.
