One of the key aims of the so-called Information Society is to facilitate the interconnection and communication of sparse groups of people, which can collaborate with each other by exchanging on-line information from distributed sources (Angehrn et al., 2008). In specific contexts, such as in the research and scholarly domain, where many times work is developed relaying on team-based research (Borgman, 2007), finding colleagues and associates to build collaborative relationships has become a crucial matter. Actually, this is one of the pillars of the conduct of research and production of scholarship (Palmer et al., 2009). Nevertheless, this task can be specially difficult when the research activity implies opening new multidisciplinary lines of investigation, since it is hard to know what’s hot and who’s in in a certain domain out of that of this specialization (even if both areas are related or close to each other).

The present chapter deals with the challenges faced by moral rights in the digital environment, especially as they pertain to digital libraries. It starts with an introduction to issues concerning the legal framework of moral rights, clarifying their position internationally. Furthermore, specific issues regarding infringements of moral rights are addressed, namely: content digitization, practice of linking, alterations of the work during the digitization process etc. In short, the necessity of the digitization of the library’s content is elucidated and the societal demand of easy and cheap access to knowledge is presented. The author is of the opinion that moral rights, arising out of the conflict of economical interests, are easier to maintain their legal intensity. Furthermore, in the modern information society, moral rights are prone to an inter-disciplinary approach and thus, they gain intensity in the balance of interest between authors and users. More specifically, moral rights have an intricate interrelationship with social, cultural, economic and philosophical aspects as well as with Fundamental and Human Rights.

This work shows the outcomes of a research activity aimed at the energy characterization of residential users. Specifically, by data analysis related to the real energy consumption of sample buildings, the flexible loads amount has been identified so as to investigate on the opportunity to implement a demand/response (DR) program. The most meaningful input data have been collected by an on-line questionnaire created within an Excel spreadsheet allowing one to simulate and compare the calculations with the actual dwellings’ consumption; 412 questionnaires have been used as statistical sample and simulations have been performed based on single-zone dynamic model. Additionally, once the energy consumptions have been sorted by the different services, reference key performance indicators (KPIs) have been also calculated normalising those ones by people and house floor surface. From data analysis, it emerges how the Italian residential users are not very electrified. Furthermore, the flexible loads are low and, implementing minor maintenance interventions, the potential of flexibility can decrease up to 20%. For that reason, the current research can be further developed by investigating on suitable flexibility extensions as well as on the automation system requirements which is needed managing the flexible loads.

The goal of this chapter is to describe the main transformations of our Information Society and to show how these kinds of transformations are changing teaching roles in schools and universities. Particularly, the focus is on teachers and tutors in on line education: the first ones are gradually passing from the “sage on the stage” to the “guide on the side” (of the learner) and understanding that their job is no longer individual, because their activities are much more staff activities; the second ones are really important because the learner, in an online environment, needs more than in presence to be helped from the cognitive and emotive point of view. The chapter provides a description of the main activities of these professionals: organization, knowledge and experience sharing, and evaluation. In conclusion, we try to indicate some problems whose importance decision makers should consider.
