Determining Research Design and Data Analysis

Research is the framework for the development of human social and scientific progress. Foundations for improved scientific thinking is often established at the post-graduate level where students undertake independent investigations aimed at exploring a chosen topic within their chosen area of specialization. Irrespective of the discipline, institution, or topic chosen, post-graduate students often adopt specific research framework(s) and processes which involves selecting design(s) and data analysis procedure. This seemingly routine task has been the bane of many post-graduate students. This chapter focuses on research methodology involving the selection of appropriate design that aims to establish the general data collection and analyses procedures, selection of a sample from population, and discussion of findings in line with existing literature or controlled observation. This chapter provides suggestions for improving the research engagement process through the adoption of appropriate research design and selection of statistical tool for data analysis.

The study examines the use of electronic resource among management students of Alagappa University. A questionnaire was distributed among the post-graduate students to collect desired data. A total of 85 questionnaires were distributed to the selected sample of Faculty of Management; 60 valid samples were collected. The study describes in brief the e-resources and their types, etc. The objectives and research methodology of the study has clearly expanded. The data analysis and interpretation are investigating the use of e-resources, awareness, purpose of use searching for relevant e-resources, reason for using e-resources, frequently of use, satisfaction level, problems facing while accessing e-resources by management students. They opined that e-resources improve quality of their work but lack of accessibility to back issues and limited number of titles available and lack of training of e-resources are the main problems faced by the management students while accessing e-resources.

The present study was conducted in Mehsana (urban and rural area) and Ahmadabad (urban and rural area) city. The sample size was 720 women and they were selected from both the cities. The women who were educated upto 12th standard, graduate and post graduate were randomly selected for the study. Purposive random sampling technique was used for selection of the sample. The research design for the present paper was two pronged approach. A descriptive survey with pre-tested, validated interview schedule was used to acquire the information needed to study the attitude on marital adjustment.

The purpose of this study was firstly to explore and describe post graduate students’ experiences of Technology Education in the TechnoLab and secondly to deduct recommendations to assist and facilitate the learning process of students in the TechnoLab. The research design can be described as qualitative, exploratory, descriptive and contextual. Twenty-eight post graduate students in Technology Education participated in a workshop at the TechnoLab for one morning session. The aim of this workshop was to expose them to the socalled technological process, which they had already studied theoretically.

The teaching of research design and data analysis to our graduate students has been a persistent problem. A course is described in which students, early in their graduate training, obtain extensive practice in designing experiments and interpreting data. Lecture-discussions on the essentials of biostatistics are given, and then these essentials are repeatedly reviewed by illustrating their applications and misapplications in numerous research design problems. Students critique these designs and prepare similar problems for peer evaluation. In most problems the treatments are confounded by extraneous variables, proper controls may be absent, or data analysis may be incorrect. For each problem, students must decide whether the researchers' conclusions are valid and, if not, must identify a fatal experimental flaw. Students learn that an experiment is a well-conceived plan for data collection, analysis, and interpretation. They enjoy the interactive evaluations of research designs and appreciate the repetitive review of common flaws in different experiments. They also benefit from their practice in scientific writing and in critically evaluating their peers' designs.

For any country to develop, it should be able to conduct research to generate knowledge necessary to solve problems of humanity by producing necessary goods and services. Research is essential for any nation's success. Most goods and services consumed today are products of research conducted in developed countries by post-graduate students. Unfortunately, most post-graduate students in developing countries face a lot of challenges that limit their ability to engage in original research that should be published in refereed journals and to acquire necessary patents accordingly. Curriculum gaps inhibit most graduate students in low-resource settings from engaging in productive research necessary to transform the developing country's economy. Hence, the chapter discusses the importance of research engagement and strategies to fill curriculum gaps in the postgraduate programs to enhance research engagement among the post-graduate students in low-resource settings.

Some recommendations presented on the preparation of chemistry papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals, indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. Some advice given on the selection of a journal for publication. Impact factors and other types of classifications for different chemistry journals and publication business models by publishers briefly discussed. Some publishers specialising on publication of chemistry papers considered. Recommendations given on the preparation of each section in a manuscript, quality of illustrations as well as the documents necessary for submission of these to the journal. Some approaches used to revise the manuscript and to deal with reviewer comments also briefly discussed. This work is prepared based on the course “How to write a paper” delivered by the author at the University of Reading (United Kingdom) for a number of years for post-graduate students from physical natural sciences as well as the courses delivered in some institutions of China, Estonia, Kazakhstan and Russia. The course is based on author’s own experience in publishing over 150 papers in different peer-reviewed journals, refereeing numerous manuscripts as well as his work as an editor for some journals.

This research is motivated by poor teacher performance. For this reason the aim of this research is to improve teacher performance by carrying out academic supervision. This study uses a school action research design that has stages of planning, implementation, observation, reflection. This research was conducted at the target schools in Dumai city from March 4 to April 27. The subjects of this study were grade IV elementary school teachers totaling 11 people. Data analysis instruments use observation sheets that are analyzed and described according to the criteria set. The results showed that the teacher's performance in the first cycle had an average percentage of 65% with sufficient criteria, classically the number of teachers who achieved the indicator of success was 3 people (27%). After repairs with academic supervision, the performance of teachers in the second cycle increased with a percentage of 81% with sufficient criteria. Classically the number of teachers who achieved good performance was 9 people (81%). The conclusion of this study is the implementation of academic supervision can improve the performance of elementary school teachers in the city of Dumai.

Readers theater productions are meaningful expressions of creative pedagogy in higher education. This article presents the script of a readers theater called Identify This… A Readers Theater of Women's Voices, which was researched, written, and produced by undergraduate and graduate students in a women's studies class called Intersections of Race, Class, and Gender. Section one of the article reproduces the script of Identify This that was based on life history interviews with a diverse selection of women to illustrate intersectional identities. Section two briefly describes the essential elements of the process we used to create and perform Identify This.

Abstract The failure analysis community working on highly integrated mixed signal circuitry is entering an era where simultaneously System-On-Chip technologies, denser metallization schemes, on-chip dissipation techniques and intelligent packages are being introduced. These innovations bring a great deal of defect accessibility challenges to the failure analyst. To contend in this era while aiming for higher efficiency and effectiveness, the failure analysis environment must undergo a disruptive evolution. The success or failure of an analysis will be determined by the careful selection of tools, data and techniques in the applied analysis flow. A comprehensive approach is required where hardware, software, data analysis, traditional FA techniques and expertise are complementary combined [1]. This document demonstrates this through the incorporation of advanced scan diagnosis methods in the overall analysis flow for digital functionality failures and supporting the enhanced failure analysis methodology. For the testing and diagnosis of the presented cases, compact but powerful scan test FA Lab hardware with its diagnosis software was used [2]. It can therefore easily be combined with the traditional FA techniques to provide stimulus for dynamic fault localizations [3]. The system combines scan chain information, failure data and layout information into one viewing environment which provides real analysis power for the failure analyst. Comprehensive data analysis is performed to identify failing cells/nets, provide a better overview of the failure and the interactions to isolate the fault further to a smaller area, or to analyze subtle behavior patterns to find and rationalize possible faults that are otherwise not detected. Three sample cases will be discussed in this document to demonstrate specific strengths and advantages of this enhanced FA methodology.
