Gamification—the use of video game elements in non-gaming environments—is an effective and lucrative method of compelling individuals to engage with behaviors normally found aversive or uninteresting. Gamified applications are found in myriad areas, from education and social justice to health and wellness. A preponderance of evidence suggests that gamified health applications can have a positive effect on mental and physical health, but these benefits are often not balanced against the unanticipated or unknown consequences to individuals that come with coercing or “governing” players towards activities that might not be for the players' benefit. The chapter describes and explains gamification, discusses various health and wellness gamification programs, and then highlights existing and speculates on potential exploitative interactions stemming from uncritical engagement with health and wellness gamification. This critique is offered through Foucault's lens of “governmentality.”

Research on the health and wellness of emergency responders has continued to grow over the past two decades, demonstrating the profound impact of duty-related exposure to stress and trauma on responders' physical and mental health. The majority of this important literature has been conducted with field responders, including police officers and firefighters. As the first, first responder, the health and wellness of 9-1-1 telecommunicators has been largely neglected, despite the high levels of recurrent exposure to duty-related traumatic events among this population. This chapter reviews the current empirical literature on mental and physical health in 9-1-1 telecommunicators, followed by discussion on factors within the 9-1-1 work environment that may be responsible for elevated rates of mental and physical health problems. Prevention and intervention efforts for 9-1-1 telecommunicators are then discussed, followed by research showing the potentially profound impact of poor mental health on 9-1-1 telecommunicator performance.

In the modern period of universal consumer and entertainment psychology of society, interest in gamification is growing. Game components penetrate into all spheres of activity: business, banking, education and even medicine - common trainings, quests aimed at mastering certain skills. The method of typology, aimed at finding stable features and properties of the object under study. Content analysis was involved, in particular, resources with gamified elements were monitored for automated information retrieval (content monitoring). In the course of the research we came to the conclusion that gamification has a significant impact on the life of modern man. The market of gamified technologies is actively developing in Ukraine and the world. Gamification allows the rational use of available resources, so that as a result all parties achieve the goal, but its use should be treated with caution so as not to exacerbate existing contradictions or, conversely, not to demotivate. That is why it is so important to be critical of the use of game elements in each of the spheres, to realize and distinguish the useful potential of the game from the game as an end in itself, which can adversely affect mental and physical health, self-realization in society.

Physical activity (PA) is beneficial for the health and wellness of individuals and societies. During an infectious disease pandemic, such as the one caused by COVID-19, social distancing, quarantines, and lockdowns are used to reduce community spread of the disease. Unfortunately, such nonpharmacological interventions or physical risk mitigation measures also make it challenging to engage in PA. Reduced PA could then trigger physiological changes that affect both mental and physical health. In this regard, women are more likely to experience physical and psychological distress. PA is a safe and effective nonpharmacological modality that can help prevent and manage several mental and physical health problems when performed correctly. PA might even confer benefits that are directly related to decreasing COVID-19 morbidity and mortality in women. In this review, we summarize why optimal PA must be a priority for women during the COVID-19 pandemic. We then discuss chronic COVID-19 illness and its impact on women, which further underscores the need for worldwide preventive health strategies that include PA. Finally, we discuss the importance of vaccination against COVID-19 for women, as part of prioritizing preventive healthcare and an active lifestyle.

The purpose of this article is to explore two specific video game modalities–casual video games and exergames–that recreational therapists (RTs) can use for therapeutic intervention. The article will address the effects of such video game modalities on mental and physical health. Requirements and how to use the video game modalities in the recreational therapy setting are shared. Implications and future research ideas for RTs are discussed.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the psychological approaches in both psychotherapy and health tourism have kept their essence and importance, but the experts are being confronted with challenges that demand changes. The goal of the paper is to examine newly established circumstances caused by COVID-19 pandemic as well as their influence on psychotherapy and health tourism - areas of great value for maintaining mental and physical health and the wellbeing. The modifications in the psychological approach could be connected with: the use of new technologies, spending time outdoor with an obligatory social distancing, the reduction and lack of the physical contact, etc. The use of creativity in psychotherapy and health tourism, expressed, among other valuable ways, by the use of active imagination, a well known method of analytical psychology, is being discussed and the hermeneutic method has been applied for analyzing the positive effect and benefits on individuals` wellbeing and health.
