Examining Virtual Classroom Platforms in Hospitality Education

Though hospitality education relies strongly on experiential learning, the COVID-19 pandemic has compelled all the higher educational institutions including the institute of hotel managements (IHMs) to restrict on-campus learning. As the only possible solution to deliver uninterrupted knowledge and skills to the students under these adverse circumstances, the management of these IHMs has quickly retorted to virtual classrooms. Many virtual platforms such as Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex, etc. emerged as the elixir for the institutions with customized features to fulfil the learning needs of the students. This necessitates the need to not only examine and compare the perceptions of these platforms based on virtual classroom service quality, perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness but also to understand the impact of these perceptions on the future scope in terms of satisfaction and behavioral intentions of the hospitality students in IHMs.

<p>Mobile payment has relative advantages compared to other payment methods, thus providing benefits for both consumers and the society. This study attempts to examine factors influencing consumer intention to use mobile payment services. Survey data are used to investigate the impact of consumers’ perceptions of mobile payment services and social influence on use intention. Empirical evidence from 489 Vietnamese consumers confirms a significant relationship between the factors and behavioral intention, and reveals that perceived trust is the strongest predictor of intention to use mobile payment services followed by perceived ease of use, perceived enjoyment, perceived behavioral control, perceived usefulness and subjective norm, respectively. The results contribute to the evolving literature, and suggest that mobile payment service providers should particularly focus on building up consumer trust, and making their services clear, understandable and easy to use. Future research directions for extending this study are also discussed.</p>

This paper aims to investigate the effects of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, self-efficacy, trust, job opportunity, top management support, competitive pressure, and regulatory support on employees’ behavioral intention to use cloud computing. Data was collected by means of self-administrated questionnaire containing 25 items from 205 employees’ working in three, four, and five star hotels. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to test the research hypotheses. Results of the current study revealed that there are significant impacts of four independent variables (i.e. job opportunity, top management support, competitive pressure, and regulatory support) on behavioral intention (BI) to use cloud computing; whereas four independent variables (i.e. perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, self-efficacy, and trust) have no significant impact on BI. The results of T-test also showed that there is a significant difference in the impact of BI to use cloud computing in favor of gender. On the other hand, the results of ANOVA’s test showed that there is no significant difference in the impact of BI that can be attributed to age, educational level, and personal income; whereas a significant difference found in favor of work position and hotel’s classification. In light of these findings, implications to both theory and practice are discussed.

In this paper, I analyse the impact that a perceived lack of an installed base has on the adoption of technological products. I use the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which considers perceived usefulness and ease-of-use as the central drivers of adoption and propose that the perceived lack of an installed base influences these two drivers. Based on cue utilisation theory, I further suggest that a perceived lack of an installed base can serve as an extrinsic cue of product quality deficiencies and difficulties with obtaining help and advice. In order to verify the supposed effect of a perceived lack of an installed base, I survey 162 households. The data shows that a perceived lack of an installed base of thermal solar systems (1) decreases their perceived usefulness and perceived ease-of-use and (2) acts as a mediator of the perceived risk. The study implies that managers launching technical innovations should develop strategies to influence consumers' perceptions of the current and the future installed base and communicate the development of the installed base to trigger adoption.

AbstractWith the popularization of mobile Internet and smart terminals, mobile reading with diversity and mobility has become a hot issue in the industry and academia. This article comes up with a hypothetical model of mobile reading user acceptance behavior based on the technology acceptance model and unified theory of acceptance and use of technology and conducts an analysis of the reliability and validity of questionnaire data. Based on this, the model fitness is analyzed as well as the path hypotheses testing. We find that user-perceived ease of use greatly influences perceived usefulness (path coefficient=0.841), and user attitude (path coefficient=0.860) and behavioral intention (path coefficient=0.154) are significantly impacted by perceived usefulness. The impact of social influence on user attitude toward using mobile reading is significant (path coefficient=0.341), but the influence of perceived payment is not obvious. The moderating effect of living habit is not obvious because the absolute value of the critical ratio is under 2.58 with a significance level of 0.01.

This study aims to investigate the impact of four antecedent factors on the acceptance of SMS advertising among young Vietnamese consumers. The empirical results indicate that “perceived usefulness”, “perceived ease of use”, “trust” and “subjective norms” have significant influences on the intention to use SMS advertising. Of these factors, “subjective norms” and “perceived usefulness” have stronger influences than the other two factors.

This study explores the impact of perceived usefulness, perceived ease-of-use, and perceived risks of using electronic tax filing (e-Filing) on the intention to use e-Filing through a technology acceptance model framework. The theoretical foundation used in this study is the technology acceptance model (TAM) on 201 valid questionnaires completed by Indonesian taxpayers. The data collected was analyzed by structural equation modelling using SmartPLS (3.0 Version). The results of the study revealed that e-Filing’s perceived usefulness and risk were significantly associated with intention to use, while perceived ease-of-use did not have a significant effect. Although the influence of perceived risks significantly mediated the influence of perceived usefulness, it did not significantly mediate the influence of ease-of-use. Gender was found to significantly moderate the influence of e-Filing’s perceived usefulness, but not to moderate the influence of perceived ease-of-use. Importance-Performance Matrix Analysis (IPMA) finds that the intention to use e-Filing is most strongly influenced by its perceived usefulness and perceived risk. This implies that policymakers must highlight the perceived usefulness and communicate the perceived risks of e-Filing to ensure taxpayers are willing to use the system. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this study is the first to examine both mediation and moderation to analyze the adoption of technology in Indonesia’s taxation system and offer a policy perspective through IPMA.

The objective of this study is to investigate the factors that are affecting customers’ intention to use Islamic FinTech services during the Covid-19 crisis. It expands the technology acceptance model (TAM) by adding government support as a new variable for the context of Islamic FinTech services during the pandemic. Using TAM as a framework, we propose a model outlining the impact of government regulation, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived trust, and user innovativeness on consumer attitude behaviour and the intention to use Islamic FinTech services, such as payment and peer-to-peer lending. 220 sets of data were collected from an online survey and analysed using partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The results show that government support for Islamic FinTech during the Covid-19 pandemic has had an indirect impact on attitude behaviour in using Islamic services through perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Attitude behaviour was found to have an impact on intention.

Nurses play a key role in healthcare but work in a highly stressful and unfriendly environment. Therefore, many medical institutions have adopted nurse healthcare management information systems for nurses to relieve symptoms of mental stress and even improve their psychological health. The key to the success of these systems depends on how nurses intend to use them. In this study, the moderating effect of nurses’ psychological health status on their usage of these systems are discussed. This study used a mail survey method for nurses to obtain 1565 valid samples. The results show that perceived usefulness is insignificant toward the usage intention of nurses with a positive psychological health status, which indicates that this system does not meet the needs of these healthy nurses. Furthermore, perceived ease of use is insignificant toward the usage intention of nurses with a negative psychological health status, which indicates that a negative psychological health status may affect one’s behavior due to impatience. This study raises the serious issue that nurses should maintain their psychological health in order to ensure the quality of care for patients. People in various fields are expected to pay attention to the psychological health status of nurses and create a win–win situation for both patients and nurses.
