The tourism industry through interaction with information and communication technologies is being strongly influenced and transformed rapidly. Spatial information in the form of novel smart web maps can become a significant factor in documenting the identity of tourist destinations. As geoinformatics and cartography evolve, they can play a substantial role in promoting the tourist destination and eventually, sustainable tourism development for the region, which is required by all stakeholders. In its first part, the chapter discusses the current tourism model and the necessity for sustainable management. In this framework, it then delves into the role of new cartographies and the use of maps in official tourist platforms for popular island tourist destinations in Mediterranean Sea, as well as the requirements of new tourists according to new cartographic trends. The aim of the chapter is to highlight the current and potential contribution of new cartographies to a sustainable and responsible tourism development.

Tourism has turned out to be one of the most affected areas of socioeconomic activity due to the spread of the pandemic. Restrictions on the movement of citizens practically brought down international tourism and caused serious damage to the national economies of those countries in which income from tourism activities made a significant contribution to the country's GDP. Efforts to create sustainable tourism systems have been destroyed, and the theory of sustainable tourism development itself needs to be updated. The relevance of this study is due to the fact that the tourism industry, which is experiencing the deepest decline in the history of tourism development, should receive new tools necessary for its restoration and further sustainable development. The study used monographic, statistical, comparative and other methods of scientific research, which made it possible to identify and formulate the author's proposals to expand the concept of sustainable tourism development. It is quite obvious that after the pandemic, world tourism will recover, but this will be a period of tourism development completely different from the previous stages. In the course of the research, the features of tourism development in the context of the socalled new reality were investigated. It is shown that the safety of tourism in terms of compliance with sanitary and epidemiological standards has become one of the important parameters in assessing the competitiveness of tourist destinations. As a result of the study, a proposal was formulated and substantiated that the concept of sustainable tourism development, in addition to economic, environmental and social components, must be supplemented with an information and communication component, as the most important attribute of the global digitalization of society.

The tracking of tourist movements is an essential aspect in the management of sustainable tourist destinations. The current information and communication technologies provide innovative ways of collecting data on tourist movements, but it is still necessary to evaluate tools and methods of study for this challenge. At this point, mobile technologies are the best candidate for this task. Given the relevance of the topic, this paper proposes a mapping science analysis of publications on “movement of tourists” and “traceability.” It has been carried out in the two main sources WOS and SCOPUS. The term “traceability” is brought from industry and technology areas to be applied to the tourist movement/mobility tracking and management. The methodological scheme is based on a selection of search criteria with combinations of terms. The sources of specialized information in applied social sciences and technology were then selected. From there, the searches have been executed for their subsequent analysis in three stages—(I) relevance analysis filtering the results to obtain the most pertinent; (II) analysis of articles with similarity thematic, authors, journals or citations; (III) analysis of selected papers as input for the mapping analysis using Citespace. The automatic naming of clusters under the selected processing confirms that the analysis of movements is a valid scientific trend but research-oriented from the perspective of traceability is non-existent, so this approach is novel and complementary to existing ones and a potential contribution to knowledge about tourist movements. Finally, a set of methodological considerations and a classification of information capture tools are proposed. In this classification, mobile technology is the best option to enable tourist movement analysis.

The literature considers cooperation as the best way for a region to achieve a competitive advantage in global, digital markets, and as taking a key role in achieving the promotion of a comprehensive, sustainable destination. In recent years, the body of research on cooperation in tourism has grown considerably, listing several opportunities for decreasing competitive pressure among local tourism actors, while gaining the superior advantages of collaboration. At the same time, the literature does not suggest particular models of cooperation for the tourism industry, as most are borrowed from the manufacturing industry, where cooperation seems widely used and further adapted for the tourism domain. Through an in-depth systematic literature review, this paper matches the theories on cooperation in tourism with the concept of temporary cooperation, in order to adapt a model widely considered in several domains, the virtual enterprise (VE), to the peculiarities of the tourism industry. The adaptation is considered according to the particularities of the tourism industry, and especially when cooperation involves local tourism authorities in global turbulent markets. A cycle model consisting of nine-stages life was built, highlighting the main features of a temporary alliance among authorities: the pivotal role of the destination management organization, the relevance of information and communication technologies for the VE’s operability, the short lifetime of the VE, and the destination’s overall promotion.

If we want to convert our rural population into knowledge driven, progressive, self sufficient, self reliant, sustainable society, the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT’s) cannot be ignored. Timely availability information is considered as most important factor in Indian agriculture. At present ICT is the technology of this millennium. Transferring the developed technology to all end users is time-consuming and tiresome task and is often not completed due to paucity of resources and lack of manpower. In India, agriculture and rural development has gained significantly from ICT due to its widespread extension and adoption. In this era of internet, ICT is committed to provide real, timely accurate authentic information to the farmers and rural peoples.
