Recent development of mobile phones is very interesting as the new generation, known as “smart phones”, offer highly attractive features. The main advantage of smart phones is the ability to connect to the Internet from anywhere, consequently enabling them to remain continuously in touch with their social networks. This paper discusses how consumers in Brunei Darussalam (Brunei) responded to the survey of smart phones. A Theory of Reasoned Action Model is used to understand customers preference in choosing a specific product over the other. To assess the use of smart phones, the authors conducted surveys with consumers, stressing on product preferences, consumption behavior of smart phones, as well as opinions on the functionality of smart phones. The smart phone market in Brunei is dominated by the younger generation who is less sensitive towards price. In terms of usability, consumers prefer smart phones more than tablets or other mobile devices, the reason for their preference being the superior functional features which exist in smart phones.

The ubiquitous positioning ability and abundant computation capability of a smart phone allow the provision of a variety of location-based services (LBSs). This chapter focuses on the fundamental elements and principles of LBS in a smart phone. First, the basic concept of LBS is introduced. Second, the state-of-the-art smart phones and communication networks are described. Afterwards, the smart phone positioning technologies are presented as three groups: satellite-based technologies, network-based solutions, and sensor-based approaches. Then, the location relevant services, contents, data, and context in a smart phone are explained. Furthermore, in the perspective of the new generation of LBS, the emerging features and technical solutions are discussed. Finally, three examples show how the above elements are integrated into the LBS applications in a smart phone.

Learning media are widely circulated in the school environment, especially Madrasah Tsanawiyah is a native-shaped media for a particular type of smart phone. There is a problem if there are learners who use different types of smart phones of different types of OS, brand, type, and screen size. This work proposed a hybrid application technology to design the learning media so that it can be accessed by various types of smart phones. Rational Unified Process (RUP) implementing as the main framework. The Fisher Yates Shuffle algorithm applied to the training module and exam to display the sequence of questions and random answer options.
