Despite being in nascent stage m-commerce is gaining momentum in India. The explosive growth of smart-phone users has made India much loved business destination for whole world. Indian internet user is becoming the second largest in the world next to China surpassing US, which throws open plenty of e-commerce opportunities, not only for Indian players, offshore players as well. Mobile commerce is likely to overtake e-commerce in the next few years, spurred by the continued uptrend in online shopping and increasing use of mobile apps.The optimism comes from the fact that people accessing the Internet through their mobiles had jumped 33 per cent in 2014 to 173 million and is expected to grow 21 per cent year-on-year till 2019 to touch 457 million. e-Commerce brands are eyeing on the mobile app segment by developing user-friendly and secure mobile apps offering a risk-free and easy shopping experience to its users. Budget 4G smart phones coupled with affordable plans, can very well drive 4G growth in India.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of several intrinsic motivations driving consumers' intention to buy using a mobile app, namely: shopping gamification, focussed attention, shopping enjoyment and socialness, through the mediating role of shopping engagement. The online shopping experience is investigated in its dual role as direct driver of the intention to buy using a mobile app and as moderator of the shopping engagement – intention to buy using a mobile app path.Design/methodology/approachThe empirical analysis was performed in China due to the extensive usage of mobile shopping apps amongst the Chinese population. A structural equation model was estimated on 893 valid and complete structured questionnaires collected amongst a sample of Chinese consumers.FindingsFindings confirm that intrinsic motivations (i.e. shopping gamification, focussed attention, shopping enjoyment and socialness) indirectly influence the intention to buy using a mobile app channelled by shopping engagement. Most remarkably, results show that the online shopping experience positively moderates the shopping engagement – intention to buy using a mobile app path.Originality/valueThe novelty of the paper lies in the conceptual and empirical evidence provided on shopping gamification, within the retailing marketing domain. The study investigates other related intrinsic motivations that jointly with shopping gamification directly influence shopping engagement and indirectly impact mobile shopping intention. The paper provides insights into the moderating role of online shopping experience, a key aspect when the challenge concerning gamification is considered.

This article describes how the retailing business has changed drastically in the recent times. The emergence of Internet and mobile channels are primarily responsible for this. The present generation comprises of a group of consumers with strong purchasing power and superior online habits in comparison to previous generations. The younger generation is much more experienced with the Internet and mobile devices and is thus more susceptible to engage in shopping through mobile apps. These empowered consumers are keen to have consistent customer experiences and are always challenging retailers to meet their evolving needs and demands. They can easily switch from one retailer to another with a couple of touches on their smart phones. These increased opportunities also increase competition. The mobile commerce helps the online retailers to present themselves fit in the market and uniquely use the cosmic opportunities. This article focuses on a set of ten different mobile shopping apps and identifies the functionalities offered by these apps. The article further proceeds to explore the specific consumer needs satisfied through mobile shopping which influence its adoption and usage.


The rise of technology and the rapidly increasing inventions in Science have completely changed many aspects of the world today. Many sectors such as communication, banking, media, etc. have gained momentum because of the internet. Online shopping is one such sector that has flourished in recent times because of the internet. This paper presents a method which employs the system of Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) in online shopping. Using this system, the time required to shop online will be reduced. CBIR is the activity of fetching images from the database which have some similarity to the given query image. Traditionally customers would have to search from different categories and apply various filters to buy the product that they want. But in this system, they will be provided with an option to directly upload the image of the product that they wish to buy. If similar products are available, it will be displayed to the customer immediately. Thus, the time required for a customer to buy a product reduces considerably thereby making the shopping experience fun, easy and convenient. The system works in a way such that when an image is uploaded, the features of this image are extracted by using the deep learning method of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). These extracted features are compared with the features of the available images stored in the database. Then, the similarity measure is calculated and images that are akin to the query image are found and are set out as result. This method significantly helps in reducing the time required to search for a particular product.

This article describes how e-retailing has become one of the most important uses of technology relating to the internet. The activity of online shopping is considered to be one of the important features of e-retailing. The enormous advantages offered by online shopping stimulate corporate managers, marketing departments and retailers to offer their products through the websites to attract the largest number of shoppers, not only to local markets but also global markets. The change in consumer behavior along with the availability of cheaper and reliable technology for secure transactions has led to a significant growth in online sales around the world. The present article focuses on identifying the key factors influencing the consumers' perceived benefits while shopping online. The article further focuses on the influence of demographic factors on consumers' perceived benefits. The findings of the article would help e-retailers to have a better understanding and to develop strategies for making the online shopping experience more effective and trustworthy to the target consumers.

The availability of new mobile devices (tablets and smartphones) equipped with many sensors is changing or, better, enriching the way we monitor and sense the world that surrounds us. The internet has permeated completely not only our scientific and technological development, but also our life. Only some years ago, we used geospatial data and GIS software installed within our computers. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand antecedents of app-based shopping in an Indian context. The paper has used unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) 2 model for examining the impact of various constructs on behavioral intention and usage behavior of smart phone users toward the mobile shopping apps. Design/methodology/approach The constructs were tested and validated by means of a structured questionnaire which was administered on a sample of 350 mobile app shoppers in Delhi. AMOS 20 was used to analyze the collected data. Findings The study revealed that hedonic and habit are the strongest predictors of users’ behavioral intention to use mobile apps for shopping. Respondents are also influenced by the deals that are being offered by the marketers. The research also suggests that facilitating conditions help in usage of mobile apps for shopping. Research limitations/implications Managerial implications simplifying the interface which would encourage the less technologically advanced individuals to use mobile apps. Hedonic element of shopping through mobile apps should also be enhanced. Originality/value This study contributes to the research on intentions and usage behavior of consumer technologies by adopting UTAUT 2 model to explain the intentions and usage behavior toward mobile apps for shopping. The paper also measured the role of deals in influencing the consumers.
