A cross-sectional study was conducted in March 2016 to assess the need of mobile phone technologies for health surveillance and interventions in Benin. Questionnaires were administered to 130 individuals comprising 25 medical professionals, 33 veterinarians, and 72 respondents from the public. All respondents possess cell phones and 75%, 84%, and 100% of the public, medical professionals, and veterinarians, respectively, generally use them for medical purposes. 75% of respondents including 68% of medics, 84.8% of veterinarians, and 72.2% of the public acknowledged that the current surveillance systems are ineffective and do not capture and share real-time information. More than 92% of the all respondents confirmed that mobile phones have the potential to improve health surveillance in the country. All respondents reported adhering to a nascent project of mobile phone-based health surveillance and confirmed that there is no existing similar approach in the country. The most preferred methods by all respondents for effective implementation of such platform are phone calls (96.92%) followed by SMS (49.23%) and smart phone digital forms (41.53%). This study revealed urgent needs of mobile phone technologies for health surveillance and interventions in Benin for real-time surveillance and efficient disease prevention.

Background/Objectives: Even just a few years ago, we took care of a lot of things through PC, from writing simple documents to checking our email and doing online shopping. But many of these tasks are now done on smart phones.Methods/Statistical analysis: It has become difficult to imagine a world without smart phones these days. This has led to all websites considering a smart phone environment when designing their sites. The layout which has the greatest range of change depending on the screen size is now an important element in design. As such, a comparative analysis was conducted on the layout design of the main screens of Naver and Daum, two of the leading portals in Korea.Findings: The layout of the mobile portal site by Naver and Daum had similar menus without a big difference. However, there was a slight difference to the menu laid out around the search window. First, Naver had the search window located immediately below the site name and the menu was laid out so that news could be viewed by category. The menu can be moved left and right to enter into the categories. Major articles are shown under the menu. Scrolling the entire window up and down allows you to move to a screen to see more information. Under major articles are photos considered hot topics under ‘hot menu items’. Below the photo is weather forecast in a large font size, which would be of interest to many users. Daum, too, has the search window under the main logo but unlike Naver, has the real-time search ranking under the search menu instead of the main menu. In addition, the main menu located under the real time search words draw attention with its head font and color of the logo. This can be moved left and right to expand the menu. The remaining structure is similar to that of Naver, consisting of major news, hot topic photos and weather forecasts.Improvements/Applications: There were almost no ornamental elements on the main page of Naver or Daum. There were only text and information, as well as related photos.

Some of The Great Wall relics are destroyed or even disappeared. The existing studies relied on field surveys are costly and time consuming. So a new cloud monitoring system based on smart phones is proposed. The system, which consists of three modules, image acquisition, questionnaire and real-time location, can realize rapid acquisition of information. Firstly, using smart phones, some photos of the Great Wall can be obtained. Then, the typical integrity damage information and location information can be obtained, including structure crack, human-caused destruction, the vegetation growth, etc. Secondly, analyzing the typical integrity damage information, the evaluation results are obtained. Then, the Great Wall information in the form of questionnaire is posted on the Great Wall integrity monitoring system. Mobile phone users who logged in the system can upload photos, and fill in the questionnaires. Through taking pictures and filling in the questionnaires, the required information can be obtained.

Real-time global illumination that scales from low to high-end hardware is important for interactive applications so they can reach wider audiences. To do this, the real-time lighting algorithm used needs to have varying performance characteristics. Sparse Radiance Probes (SRP) is a recent real-time global illumination algorithm that runs in under 5 ms per frame on a high-end Nvidia Titan X GPU. Its low per-frame timings suggest it could scale to low-end devices, but no prior work provides complete implementation details and evaluates its performance across devices with varying performance characteristics to prove this. Therefore, this thesis aims to fill this gap and determine if SRP is scalable across low to high-end devices. SRP is implemented with adjustable scaling parameters, and its performance is compared across three test devices. A low-end iPhone 7, a mid-range AMD Radeon 560 graphics card, and a high-end AMD RX Vega 56 graphics card. The implementation in this thesis ran above 60 FPS for simple scenes on the iPhone 7, and with a reasonable reduction in quality, it ran just above 30 FPS on more complex scenes like Crytek Sponza. These results show that SRP can scale to low-end devices. While the implementation in this thesis runs in real time, there are implementation optimisations that would make SRP run even faster across all the test devices without reducing quality.

Streaming media server is the core system of audio and video application in the Internet; it has a wide range of applications in music recommendation. As song libraries and users of music websites and APPs continue to increase, user interaction data are generated at an increasingly fast rate, making the shortcomings of the original offline recommendation system and the advantages of the real-time streaming recommendation system more and more obvious. This paper describes in detail the working methods and contents of each stage of the real-time streaming music recommendation system, including requirement analysis, overall design, implementation of each module of the system, and system testing and analysis, from a practical scenario. Moreover, this paper analyzes the current research status and deficiencies in the field of music recommendation by analyzing the user interaction data of real music websites. From the actual requirements of the system, the functional and performance goals of the system are proposed to address these deficiencies, and then the functional structure, general architecture, and database model of the system are designed, and how to interact with the server side and the client side is investigated. For the implementation of data collection and statistics module, this paper adopts Flume and Kafka to collect user behavior data and uses Spark Streaming and Redis to count music popularity trends and support efficient query. The recommendation engine module in this paper is designed and optimized using Spark to implement incremental matrix decomposition on data streams, online collaborative topic model, and improved item-based collaborative filtering algorithm. In the system testing section, the functionality and performance of the system are tested, and the recommendation engine is tested with real datasets to show the discovered music themes and analyze the test results in detail.
