Due to the rapid advancements in information and communication technologies, the digital data is exponentially growing on the internet. The insurance industry with tough competition has emerged as information rich domain based on health, assets, and life insurance for public. Customers expect to receive personalized services that match their needs, preferences, and lifestyles. But a large portion of population is still unfriendly to the insurance selection. Major reasons could be the time and complexities involved in selection of suitable policies. This paper presents the state of the art of the research done in insurance recommendation systems at national and international levels. Multi-criteria decision-making methods are compared with collaborative filtering and data mining techniques. Their suitability to the field of life insurance recommendation is analyzed. The paper identifies the lack of public dataset of customers and life insurance policies and highlights the need for a personalized, neutral, and unified model for effective information computing for life insurance recommendations.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have established a growing and deeper interconnection alliance with the tourism sector. Few solutions have contributed to the dissemination of cultural and religious heritage of the regions, as a means of promoting it, making known and enriching the culture of its visitors and residents. The development of an intelligent application that allows the dissemination of cultural and religious heritage can bring new experiences and sensations for tourists and for residents in general, and for those with accessibility problems in particular. The present chapter proposes a methodological framework for the development of a recommendation system associated with the Religious Tourism Experience Model (RTEM), with the objective of identifying and selecting consumer preferences for the dissemination of cultural heritage in general, and religious heritage in particular.

The insurance business bases heavily on data, information and knowledge processing. Hence, entities in the business need great connectivity and articulation between themselves. Information and Communication Technologies and Information Systems can provide that connectivity, both intra- and interorganizations, making it possible for participants to come closer and dialog better, reducing response times and costs, improving service to clients and, possibly, creating new business opportunities. In this chapter, we investigate, by means of a case study, how far the business of an intermediary integrates with other entities, using an electronic business platform built on Internet technologies. The conclusions drawn cannot be generalized to the whole industry. However, we firmly believe that they expose the problems faced by intermediaries and insurance companies in this industry all over the world when trying to integrate their business, and offer how the problems can be overcome so partners can fully benefit from the opportunities identified.

Indigenous peoples are addressing the ongoing impacts of settler colonialism through a variety of expressions of community resurgence. Among these initiatives are those leveraging digital technologies. In the emergent network society, digital infrastructures, and information and communication technologies are powerful tools that can support self-government. In this context, we document the development of digital data management in the Mohawk community of Kahnawà:ke. Data is the digital information generated by a community, encompassing areas like research, education, finance, health, membership, housing, lands, and resources. As self-determining political entities, each First Nation determines how this data is interpreted and used, supported by tools like data management platforms and information-sharing protocols. In this article, we show how local practices regarding the collection, use, and sharing of digital data in Kahnawà:ke provides a clear example of Indigenous resurgence.

This article investigates how activists employ Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and engage with data-activism in grassroots struggles against corruption. Based on a comparative research design that triangulates three qualitative data sources — in-depth interviews, movements’ documents and participatory platforms — the article analyses two campaigns: Riparte il Futuro in Italy and 15MpaRato in Spain. In so doing, the article casts light on how activists engage with digital data, revealing how their employment is connected to and consistent with the type of organizational structure and communication strategy of the campaign. Moreover, the article evaluates how activists engage with three specific digital data-related practices — digital data creation, data usage and data transformation. Finally, the article illustrates that grasping the features of digital data-related practices also reflects how activists perceive and enact distinct ideas of active citizenship and data transparency in their fight against corruption.

If we want to convert our rural population into knowledge driven, progressive, self sufficient, self reliant, sustainable society, the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT’s) cannot be ignored. Timely availability information is considered as most important factor in Indian agriculture. At present ICT is the technology of this millennium. Transferring the developed technology to all end users is time-consuming and tiresome task and is often not completed due to paucity of resources and lack of manpower. In India, agriculture and rural development has gained significantly from ICT due to its widespread extension and adoption. In this era of internet, ICT is committed to provide real, timely accurate authentic information to the farmers and rural peoples.

Borders and bodies are increasingly regulated by data-capturing mechanisms spread across the world through information and communication technologies. This article traces the features and implications of such a border-body datalogical entanglement through the figure of the drug mule. It analyzes government documents and recorded case studies to argue that this figure emerges from an assemblage of cultural narratives, legal structures, human labor, technical practices, and biological processes. The datalogical drug mule is already implicated in a struggle over what, and how, data is meaningful and actionable. Investigating this figure allows us to begin disentangling the data-driven mechanisms that constitute modern borders and bodies while at the same time accounting for analog continuities in contemporary practices of border security.
