Information and Communication Technology in Education

This article provides an overview of the current development of information and communication technology (ICT) utilized in Chinese education. Specifically, the article describes and discusses the impact contemporary ICT has on Chinese elementary and secondary education, as well as the existing challenges in ICT application. The article also examines ICT’s application in higher education, particularly in distance education, and the issues that have to be dealt with. The article discusses the potential for further developing education with ICT. In addition, it makes recommendations with regard to providing better education with ICT in China.

Specifically, the chapter describes and discusses the effects contemporary ICT has on Chinese elementary and secondary education, as well as the existing challenges in ICT applications. Specifically, the chapter describes and discusses how ICT has been used in Chinese elementary and secondary education, as well as the existing challenges in ICT applications. The chapter also examines ICT's application in higher education, particularly how it has transformed Chinese higher education with online provision, and the issues that must be dealt with. The author discusses the potential for further developing education with ICT. In addition, based on the Chinese and international literature the author has reviewed the chapter and made recommendations with regards to providing better education utilizing ICT.

This chapter examines literature about distance higher education in Africa, as presented by different scholars. The evolution of distance education has been well explored from the print to the current era of information and communication technology. Challenges and opportunities in the provision of distance higher education have been discussed and better practices for providing quality distance education have been suggested. It is concluded that the provision of distance education must be carefully planned and the technologies employed in its delivery must be reflective of the context in which they are used.

This article describes the issue of governance in higher education, of which administration is key, is saddled with numerous challenges, as such, new approaches are being sought out to enhance the process. It is obvious that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a tool that enhances administrative activities of higher education institution. This article is based on descriptive survey design which investigates the impact of ICT on the administrative services/management of students' records in Nigerian universities. A questionnaire was the research instrument employed, and questionnaire items were developed through a review of related literature. A total of 200 respondents participated, comprising students, lecturers and administrators were randomly selected from ten universities in Nigeria. Data collected was analyzed using ANOVA. The major impacts of ICT in administrative services/management of students' records in Nigerian universities were identified and discussed. Suggestions are made on the need for Nigerian universities to widen the scope of ICT application in administrative services to fully reap the benefits of ICT.

 This paper deals with the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in higher education institutions in terms of capability enhancement of learners. In addition, the intents of this research paper is to focus towards online and distance education related with higher education institutions of Nepal. Particularly, the relation of ICT with capability enhancement, the relation of ICT and ODL mode of higher education learners, and the relation of ICT and capability with student learning has been explored in this paper. Theoretically, capability enhancement has been discussed in terms of connectivism and learner autonomy.  Moreover, the theories of capability enhancement as interpreted by Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum have also been used to discuss this issue. Besides contributing to quality human life, ICT is found to be helpful in promoting good behavior and attitudes, increasing their ability toward being, doing, and functioning. Integrating technology in education can help change people’s lives.

But that requires providing the necessary information technology to promote the principles of electronic community participation, And raising the level of intellectual and scientific production to form a tributary that balances the consumption of natural resources, and stimulate the private sector to invest in education to achieve sustainable economic growth
