The chapter appraised the effectiveness of instructional technology in learning environment. The application of instructional technology will impact positively in a group context within given environment to satisfying the needs of the learners. Thus, the integration of Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube in teaching and learning of general studies. A sample of 120 students were drawn from the students in Veritas University Abuja using simple random sampling techniques. One research question and three hypotheses were stated to guide the study. The instrument used was instructional technology on students performance test (ITSPT) to collect data. Descriptive statistics were used to answer the research question, while ANOVA and ANCOVA were used for hypotheses. The study revealed that when lecturer used instructional technology in general studies this will significantly enhance their understanding of general studies. It is recommended that to make learning meaningful, a lecturer should always integrate instructional technologies in their classroom to enhance the understanding of general studies effectively.

Industrial development of any country depends to a great extent on the level of skills its workforce possesses, and the skills and effectiveness of workforce, in turn, are dependent upon the quality of nation's education and training. Education and training are undergoing continuous change, and this poses more challenges to the workers in the 21st century and technical vocational education and training (TVET) institutions responsible for their training. Therefore, this chapter discusses relevance of information technology in transforming TVET in developing workforce towards globalization. The chapter points out clearly the meaning of workforce, meaning of TVET, and workforce development, globalization and TVET, information technology (IT), information technology and workforce development, utilization of information technology for developing workforce, impact of technology education in improving Nigerian workforce, place of information technology in transforming workforce. The chapter concludes by identifying different types of technology tools and benefits of information technology.

The purpose of this chapter is to use a cross-cultural research-based evidence to discuss the root causes of barriers to effective technology adoption by evaluating the effect the teaching environment and the ranges of teacher behaviors have on technology adoption. The author described and explained the change processes that teachers go through as they implement new technologies or instructional practices with a view to connecting the change process, the innovation, and the individuals involved in the process. Two overarching frameworks that guided the author's discussion of this chapter and the behavior engineering model (BEM) and the concerns-based model (CBAM) frameworks.

On the basis of the seminal paper presented at the International Conference on Taiwanese-Vietnamese Education in 2013, the authors further present how neoliberal globalization directs higher education. The purpose of the authors in this chapter is to critically analyze the complex interplay between neoliberal globalization and the employment prospects of graduates from universities and colleges. Revisiting the concept of relative advantage for division of labor, they delineated the neoliberal theory of globalization. Within this framework, they employed the Heckscher-Ohlin model and Stolper-Samuelson theorem to argue that if countries follow the relative advantage doctrine, the value of higher education will decrease in a developing country such as Vietnam. Neoliberal globalization therefore presents significant implications to the accumulation of human capital. If taking these implications seriously, individuals, higher education institutions, and policymakers can figure out better schemes to invest in higher education.

The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the literature on massive open online course (MOOC) development in China, its accompanying practices, challenges, and opportunities. The chapter also offers recommendations derived from the literature on how to make MOOCs benefit more Chinese. To conduct this study, the author reviewed Chinese literature on MOOCs since 2012, when the first five articles on MOOCs appeared in Chinese journals, which introduced concepts and practices of Western MOOCs into China. The author also reviewed well-known English journals on online education and e-learning since 2013, when the first Chinese MOOCs appeared.

This chapter was written to highlight the value for cross-cultural communication practices in schools with the support of innovative information and communication technology (ICT). A detailed theoretical foundation was provided to justify the inclusion of global perspectives in the classroom through cross-cultural communication, which is made possible with ICT. This chapter details the perceptions of 139 educators via a survey study, which shaped the author's suggestions for practical ICT cross-cultural communication opportunities in the classroom. Implementation strategies include classroom-to-classroom and classroom-to-world cross-cultural communication opportunities. This chapter suggests practical solutions supported by solid theoretical justifications for utilizing ICT to facilitate cross-cultural communication and improving student global awareness.

The fields of population health include health outcomes, patterns of health determinants, and policies interventions. Health is a national and international priority and implementation of mHealth can add a new level of solution to current challenges facing healthcare. The goal of this study is to explore the influence of mobile health adoption on medication adherence. A two-month intervention to monitor patients with poorly controlled diabetes was developed by the researcher diabetic patients that attend two private hospitals in western part of Nigeria. The researcher invented a smart pill container that automatically uploaded its data to the cloud. The pillbox helped patients organize their medications while providing patient-facing reminders and provider-centered feedback on medication adherence patterns. Average medication adherence was consistently above 80%, and even briefly hit 90% during one week of the study. The intervention showed an improvement in the medication adherence among the participants.

Pervasiveness of technology in the digital age has affected education generally and is fundamentally transforming assessment, causing changes in traditional educational settings, like learning taking place anywhere, anytime and in real-world context. In such an environment, emphasis is put on what is to be seen as effective assessment in a smart learning environment (SLE). Through a case chapter examines the process of electronic marking and how it enhances smart learning practices. Drawing on the technology acceptance model, the meaning and process of e-marking in enhancing smart learning is presented. Features and process of e-marking and it's perceived benefits and barriers are described. From the reported experiences of engagement in the e-marking process; it is found out that e-marking is increasingly becoming important and dependable in enhancing smart learning. Findings also indicate that in contexts where e-marking is thriving, it started as a small project, with a few scripts marked electronically and then gradually gets up scaled into a full practice. It is concluded that e-marking is an intervention that is key in the assessment of large classes in large classes, that will contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goal number four- ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Science education has given an increasing amount of attention to incorporating real-life issues into science curricula and engaging students in practices similar to those of scientists, most recently via the fields of socioscientific issues (SSI) and citizen science (CS). Frequently, socioscientific issues focus on globalized problems, while citizen science focuses on localized issues. For meaningful engagement with these two approaches, this chapter advocates for incorporating computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL). The chapter introduces and defines SSI, CS, and CSCL. Then, it discusses the major affordances of CSCL to bridge SSI and CS. The author presents three key areas in which CS, the study of SSI, and CSCL environments can work together to cohesively advance both joint and individual purposes. The chapter concludes with a seven-step instructional sequence arguing for localizing SSI and globalizing CS via local and large-scale collaboration.

The technology use has been an enormous factor in educational development all over the globe. Despite technological constraints in many developing countries, emphasis on technology use cannot but be referenced. There has been a pattern of technology use and integration in many colleges, but the passion for technology use has not been completely appraised by all the stakeholders. Obviously, technology use can positively and negatively affect student learning. However, control over negative uses of technology rests in the hand of both parents and teachers. Apparently, technology use in today's educational system should create an atmosphere that fosters creativity among the students.
