However, the present situation of this industry shows that the design standard for old people wasn't promoted effectively. Concerning their psychological characteristics and the psychological needs of the elderly primarily, the point of this article lies in figuring out the proper design to resolve the old people’ knots, thus achieving their sense of belonging, improving the quality of life in their later years, even extending their life, to create a real home for old people.

The goal of the authors of this empirical study is to present the results of research on the effectiveness of the intervention program focused on co-educational activities of children and seniors living in social service homes. Program creators and implementers are convinced that the interaction of children and seniors, having different forms and contexts (communication, educational, sports, artistic, work, relaxation, etc.), has the potential to influence inner experience and its subsequent manifestation of behaviour in all participants. Used research tools (Child Mental Health Problems Questionnaire, Rohner’s Personality Assessment Questionnaire for Children, Satisfaction with Life Scale for Old Age) pointed out that the program had a facilitating and developing effect on some psychological characteristics related to the quality of life of participants. In children, there was a reduction in symptoms of problem behaviour and a higher rate of adequate emotional manifestations. In the elderly, there was an increased level of overall subjective satisfaction and reduction of negative emotional manifestations.

This paper analyzes the causes and consequences of the increasedtrend of population aging in contemporary society expressed in severalprevious decades. This refers to increasing the share of the populationaged between 60 and 65 years and over (chronological criteriaare defined in the modern age in relation to age in which the workingactivity stops, they can not be applied to African countries), thatis the share of the elderly population of 7 (and more) percent of thetotal population. As a result, we have the increased number of demographicallyold societies. Aging is a biological process, but also a socialconstruct, because at different times and in different societies are differentlyset boundaries of age, attitude towards aging, status of elderlypeople and the like. The most important demographic characteristicsthat cause aging of the population in modern society are: lower fertility, lower mortality (especially the older groups) and migrations.Accelerated aging of the population undermines the economic and socialbalance in the society in which it is expressed (increased pressureon funds of social, health and pension protection) it requires the increasedinvestment effort to deal with this problem and its resolution, but there are consequences for individuals (loss of autonomy , loneliness, illness, etc.). In recent years, the attitude towards old people andthe experience of aging have changed due to an improvement of theoverall quality of life (working and living conditions, progress in thefield of medicine), which gives an opportunity to the people of this ageto lead a full life of different activities (travel, education , acquisitionof new skills and the like.). Although progress was made in terms ofhuman rights, quality of life and the situation of old people in society, there are still various problems that they face (social exclusion, poverty, violence, etc.). In contemporary society have beeb undertakenvarious activities which aim to promote a positive attitude towardsthe old (er) people and to prevent discrimination based on age.

Objective To evaluate the influence exercised by institutionalization on the autonomy and perception of quality of life among the institutionalized elderly. Method The study is quasi-experimental (interrupted time series) and longitudinal. The sample is composed for 104 elderly people who went into a three nursing home in Santander, Spain. To assess the quality of life and dependence two scales were used: the Barthel Index and Lawton Index. Results There was an important relationship between autonomy and independence and their deterioration due to their institutionalisation, such as the physical and social aspects. Conclusion It´s important to point out that the dependence of the elderly is a complex phenomenon, which admits many types of intervention, including the customary ones referring to more classic welfare actions which tend to supplant the absence of autonomy in everyday life by facilitating services and attention to make up for this need, without having to resort to institutionalization.

BACKGROUND: Quarantine and social distancing are important to avoid spreading the coronavirus. Being active, healthy and happy is a central part of managing daily challenges. OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study was to improve understanding regarding the wellbeing of the elderly during COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: For the literature review, keywords such as wellbeing and COVID-19 were searched for associations with terms such as elderly, ageing and old people. Only research published in peer-reviewed journals and written in English was considered in this study. The studies included in the analysis were only those published between the start of the pandemic and April 2021. RESULTS: From a total of 75 searches, eight studies fit the inclusion criteria. Elderly people are the population group most vulnerable to COVID-19, which threatens their lives and wellbeing. Technology such as artificial intelligence can maintain the wellbeing of the elderly. Lockdown, the lack of social interaction and the limited access to medications and health facilities can worsen the physical and mental health and the psychological wellbeing of the elderly. Conclusion: It is important to highlight elderly care and mitigation programmes related to physical activities and cognitive psychology to prevent mental and functional decline in older people. Further studies should focus on their quality of life and the wellbeing.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia in old people. We used the Smart Skirting Board® (SSB®) that integrates, among other things, a Snoezelen system, a laser system, music, video and aromas for multisensory and cognitive stimulation. The SSB® allows a non-pharmacological intervention, and the brain stimulation is achieved, improving the elderly person’s attention span, memory, mood, verbal skills and concentration and helping them to relax and offering an atmosphere of security and mental and physical relaxation. Based on a study that was conducted, the smart skirting board as a therapeutic tool, contributed significantly to the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly with psychomotor deficits and particularly those showing signs of Alzheimer's.

Objectives: The present study aimed to assess the correlation between the sense of belonging and expectation regarding aging in the elderly. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 300 elderly residents in Tehran and Ghazvin, Iran. The expectations regarding aging (ERA-12) was used to evaluate the same variable, and the other measurement tool was the sense of belonging instrument. Results: The sense of belonging had a direct, significant correlation with expectation regarding aging (β = 0.466; P < 0.001), so that the sense of belonging could predict various dimensions of expectation regarding aging, such as physical health (β = 0.20; B = 0.08; P < 0.001), mental health (β = 0.40; B = 0.31; P < 0.001), and cognitive function (β = 0.40; B = 0.34; P < 0.001). Conclusions: Considering the obtained results, it is recommended that special attention be paid to psychological factors (e.g., sense of belonging) in order to improve interpersonal relations and healthy aging in the elderly. Furthermore, these factors have a significant impact on the life expectancy and quality of life of this population.
