This paper puts forward a suitable channel estimation scheme for multiple input multiple output and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system (MIMO-OFDM) based on discrete wavelet transform. According to the least-squares standard (LS), this plan uses pilot to estimate the unit impulse response of MIMO channel firstly, then does wavelet denoising in changing domain, in order to reduce the frequency spectrum leakage and improve the estimation precision. At the same time, this method does not need to know channel information in advance, and can follow up the changes of channel on time with good error rate performance.

Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) are two combined technologies to provide the spectral efficiency and high data rate required for 4G, 5G wireless systems. Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) is presented as an alternative for Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) since there is no necessity for Cyclic Prefix (CP) due to the overlapping properties of DWT. By a simple replacement of the FFT with DWT in MIMO OFDM system, an improvement of performances has been detected which leads to a new system scenario DWT-based MIMO-OFDM. In this thesis, such a system is simulated and the performance of Bit Error Rate (BER) is analyzed to determine the different types of wavelets in various channel condition with different modulations (4, 16, 64 -QAM). Therefore, DWT-based MIMO-OFDM in comparison with DFT-based MIMO-OFDM system was investigated using MATLAB simulation software. And besides, I would like to refer to use Neural Network algorithms to replace Wavelet transform in the next research.

This paper presents a joint channel estimation and data detection technique for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. Initial estimate of the channel is obtained using semi-blind channel estimation (SBCE). The whitening rotation (WR)-based orthogonal pilot maximum likelihood (OPML) method is used to obtain the channel estimate. The estimate is further enhanced by extracting information through the received data symbols. The performance of the proposed estimator is studied under various channel models. The simulation study shows that this approach gives better performance over training-based channel estimation (TBCE) and OPML SBCE methods but at the cost of higher computational complexity.

Abstract Nowadays, there is a great demand for ultra-high data rate (UHDR) transmission on most 5th generation wireless networks. In this concern, the multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) scheme is used on a large scale to achieve UHDR transmission with reduced inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-carrier interference (ICI). Discrete wavelet transform-based OFDM (DWT-OFDM) provides better orthogonality due to presence of orthogonal wavelets, which mitigates the effects caused by ISI and ICI. Also, it has extended bandwidth than the traditional OFDM systems. But a major drawback in this system is that it suffers from down sampling. The down-sampling effect reduces the actual size of the input bit streams. As a result, the system performance is degraded. For solving this problem, a multilevel redundant discrete wavelet transform (ML-RDWT) is used instead of DWT to achieve improved spectral performance. Here, complex down-sampling operation is eliminated. From the simulation outcomes, it is clearly viewed that effects caused by ICI, ISI and BER are mitigated by improving the performance of CIR. The proposed method employs optimal red deer algorithm (ORDA) to locate the optimized weights for the ICI cancellation system. This algorithm enhances the spectral efficiency by achieving high CIR with reduced BER, ISI and ICI. The BER in the proposed MIMO-ML-RDWT-OFDM-ORDA method is 68%, 76%, 38% and 75%, which is very low when compared to the BER in the existing techniques like MIMO-DWT-OFDM-RDA, MIMO-RNS-OFDM-PNMA, MIMO-OFDM-BMA and MIMO-OFDM-ICIMA. The ISI in the proposed method is 94%, 91%, 95% low when compared to the ISI in the existing techniques. The ICI in the proposed work is 71%, 57%, 73% and 86% low when compared to the ICI in the existing techniques. Therefore, the general performance of the proposed MIMO-ML-RDWT-OFDM-ORDA method is improved in an efficient way with less complexity, error rate and processing delay.

This paper presents a new way to improve the performance of MIMO-OFDM (multiple input multiple output - orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) by reducing the Bit Error Rate (BER) using both Convolutional Coding (CC) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT). In this Paper, OFDM system was simulated and studied with three models, SISO-OFDM, MISO-OFDM and MIMO-OFDM. The final system (MIMO-OFDM) has been improved by using CC at a coding rate 1/2 and using a DWT instead of FFT and then using both CC and DWT. The communication channels used in the study are Rician and Rayleigh fading channels and the modulation technique is Binary Phase-Shift Keying (BPSK) with 64 number of carrier frequencies. The results showed that the use of both convolutional coding and discrete wavelet transform in the MIMO-OFDM system reduces the bit energy to the intensity of noise energy (Eb/N0) by 3.4 dB as the Rayleigh fading channel is used and 4.6 dB as the Rician fading channel is used when BER=10-3. The results were obtained by modeling in the MATLAB program.

A novel channel estimation scheme based on superimposed training is proposed for multiple-input multiple-output multi-band orthogonal frequency division multiplexing ultra-wideband systems. The optimal training symbols are derived with respect to the least-square channel estimate mean square error. Simulation shows that the proposed scheme benefits much higher effective data throughput over the conventional method.

Abstract Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based massive multiuser (MU) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system is popularly known as high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) issue. The OFDM-based massive MIMO system exhibits large number of antennas at Base Station (BS) due to the use of large number of high-power amplifiers (HPA). High PAPR causes HPAs to work in a nonlinear region, and hardware cost of nonlinear HPAs are very high and also power inefficient. Hence, to tackle this problem, this manuscript suggests a novel scheme based on the joint MU precoding and PAPR minimization (PP) expressed as a convex optimization problem solved by steepest gradient descent (GD) with μ-law companding approach. Therefore, we develop a new scheme mentioned to as MU-PP-GDs with μ-law companding to minimize PAPR by compressing and enlarging of massive MIMO OFDM signals simultaneously. At CCDF = 10−3, the proposed scheme (MU-PP-GDs with μ-law companding for Iterations = 100) minimizes the PAPR to 3.70 dB which is better than that of MU-PP-GDs, (iteration = 100) as shown in simulation results.

Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) is the most used wireless transmission scheme in the world. However, its security is the interesting problem to discuss if we want to use this scheme to transmit a sensitive data, such as in the military and commercial communication systems. In this paper, we propose a new method to increase the security of MIMO-OFDM system using the change of location of fake subcarrier. The fake subcarriers’ location is generated per packet of data using Pseudo Random sequence generator. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme does not decrease the performance of conventional MIMO-OFDM. The attacker or eavesdropper gets worse Bit Error Rate (BER) than the legal receiver compared to the conventional MIMO-OFDM system.

<p>Multiple input-multiple output (MIMO) is a multipath diversity exploring approach which is emerged with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) to produce MIMO-OFDM that is widely used in wireless communications. This paper presents a discrete Hart-ley transform (DHT) precoded MIMO-OFDM system over multipath frequency-selective fading channel with large-size quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM, 64-QAM and 256-QAM). A mathematical models for the BER and channel capacity over mutlipath fading channels are also derived in this paper. Average Bit-error-rate (BER) and channel capacity of the presented system is considered and compared with that of the traditional MIMO-OFDM. Simulation results shows that the transmission performance and channel capacity of the proposed schemes is better than that of the traditional MIMO-OFDM without a pre-coder.</p>
