Current doctrine assumes that the “Vienna regime” delinked objections from the criterion of object and purpose (op) compatibility of reservations. Shifting the focus from reservations to objections, this article finds implicit continuity between the Genocide Advisory Opinion and the Vienna regime: in both cases the op criterion enables a distinction between objections on the grounds of incompatibility of reservations (op objections) and all others. Embracing this distinction, a new theoretical interpretation of the Vienna regime safeguards against the adverse effects of objections, namely a “reinforced two-tier test” is suggested, whereby any reservation may be subject to an assessment of opposability (non-op objections) and a double assessment of permissibility. Adopting a functional approach, the article suggests a classification of international obligations based on the applicability of the Vienna regime’s various safeguard mechanisms, locating the roles of objections to reservations to human rights treaties in context.

Cardiomyopathies represent a group of diseases of the myocardium of the heart and include diseases both primarily of the cardiac muscle and systemic diseases leading to adverse effects on the heart muscle size, shape, and function. Traditionally cardiomyopathies were defined according to phenotypical appearance. Now, as our understanding of the pathophysiology of the different entities classified under each of the different phenotypes improves and our knowledge of the molecular and genetic basis for these entities progresses, the traditional classifications seem oversimplistic and do not reflect current understanding of this myriad of diseases and disease processes. Although our knowledge of the exact basis of many of the disease processes of cardiomyopathies is still in its infancy, it is important to have a classification system that has the ability to incorporate the coming tide of molecular and genetic information. This paper discusses how the traditional classification of cardiomyopathies based on morphology has evolved due to rapid advances in our understanding of the genetic and molecular basis for many of these clinical entities.

SummaryWe use unique rich data for German manufacturing enterprises to investigate the product diversification - firm performance relationship. We find that an increase in the degree of product diversification has a negative impact on profitability when observed and unobserved firm characteristics are controlled for. The effects are statistically significant and large from an economic point of view. This helps to understand the fact that nearly 40 percent of all enterprises with at least 20 employees are single-product firms according to a detailed classification of products, and that multi-product enterprises with a large number of goods are a rare species.

Design-manufacturing integration is one of the most signicant contemporary trends in new product development (NPD) for manufacturing enterprises. Exploring the implementation capability of manufacturing enterprises through the assessment of design-manufacturing integration is an important and crucial step for determining what kind of design-manufacturing integration is appropriate for manufacturing enterprises. However, quantitative evaluation of design-manufacturing integration is rather limited so far. In this paper, we view design-manufacturing integration as a complex adaptive system (CAS), an effective evaluation method for design-manufacturing integration is proposed. To classify the manufacturing enterprises into which can quickly adapt to the environment or not, support vector machine is utilized. Selecting relevant features among the features available for classification of was also dealt with. The experiment results demonstrate the proposed method is useful for Design-manufacturing integration quantitatively.

In every project, one thing that often happens is a change order. Change order is a change of work after the contract is signed by the owner and contractor. These changes can occur at the beginning, middle, or in construction projects. To minimize change orders, a change order correlation analysis can be done using the original data, with the parameters change order ratio in addition (CORA) and change order ratio in substraction (CORS). The data used in this study uses two original change order contract data on projects in Banten Province. This study produced 4 correlation results obtained from Pearson correlation in the SPSS program. The results of the correlation of the weight of each work to CORA on project 1 did not show any correlation. The results of the correlation of weights for each work with CORA project 2 and the results of the correlation of weights with CORS project 2 showed a significant correlation at the 95% degree of confidence. The results of the correlation of the weight of each work with CORS project 1 showed a very significant correlation at the 99% degree of confidence.

ABSTRACTThe present research presents the implementation of the "Integral Audit" which is assumed as a management tool for small Ecuadorian Saving and Credit Cooperatives located in segment 4 according to the classification of the Popular and Solidary System. The new thing lies in the adoption of common auditing practices, applied to small entities that can be either of control and prevention, management, compliance and financial. The transdisciplinary approach is presented as a strategy and method to achieve more successful results according to Edgar Morín; by adopting and interweaving these techniques in a complementary way into a single instrument, they provide with the steps of the audit process for timely decision-making and strategic reorientation in a simplified, coherent and relevant way. It is proposed the "integral audit" as a monitoring tool for business management that responds in the pertinence of decision making, given the characteristics and particularities of these types of companies, where management is a strategic and decisive process for the success and performance of them.

Purpose: Structurally similar molecules are likely to have similar biological activity. In this study, similarity searching based on molecular 2D fingerprint was performed to analyze off-target effects of drugs. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between the adverse effects and drug off-targets. Methods: A workflow was built using KNIME to run dataset preparation of twenty-nine targets from ChEMBL, generate molecular 2D fingerprints of the ligands, calculate the similarity between ligand sets, and compute the statistical significance using similarity ensemble approach (SEA). Tanimoto coefficients (Tc) are used as a measure of chemical similarity in which the values between 0.2 and 0.4 are the most common for the majority of ligand pairs and considered to be insignificant similar. Result: The majority of ligand sets are unrelated, as is evidenced by the intrinsic chemical differences and the classification of statistical significance based on expectation value. The rank-ordered expectation value of inter-target similarity showed a correlation with off-target effects of the known drugs. Conclusion: Similarity-searching using molecular 2D fingerprint can be applied to predict off-targets and correlate them to the adverse effects of the drugs. KNIME as an open-source data analytic platform is applicable to build a workflow for data mining of ChEMBL database and generating SEA statistical model.

Abstract Classification of edge-on galaxies is important to astronomical studies due to our Milky Way galaxy being an edge-on galaxy. Edge-on galaxies pose a problem to classification due to their less overall brightness levels and smaller numbers of pixels. In the current work, a novel technique for the classification of edge-on galaxies has been developed. This technique is based on the mathematical treatment of galaxy brightness data from their images. A special treatment for galaxies’ brightness data is developed to enhance faint galaxies and eliminate adverse effects of high brightness backgrounds as well as adverse effects of background bright stars. A novel slimness weighting factor is developed to classify edge-on galaxies based on their slimness. The technique has the capacity to be optimized for different catalogs with different brightness levels. In the current work, the developed technique is optimized for the EFIGI catalog and is trained using a set of 1800 galaxies from this catalog. Upon classification of the full set of 4458 galaxies from the EFIGI catalog, an accuracy of 97.5% has been achieved, with an average processing time of about 0.26 seconds per galaxy on an average laptop.

ObjectiveTo retrospectively compare the benefits (episode cessation) and risks of IV methylprednisolone (IV-MP) vs abstention during prolonged Kleine-Levin syndrome (KLS) episodes.MethodsA total of 26 patients with KLS received 1 g/d IV-MP for 3 days during 1 to 6 episodes each (totaling 43 IV-MP sessions). The change of episode duration with IV-MP (vs previous episode duration) was compared with the change duration between 2 consecutive episodes in 48 untreated patients matched for age, sex, age at KLS onset, number of episodes, and disease duration (more treated than untreated patients had long episodes).ResultsEleven patients (42.3%) had an episode that was at least 1 week shorter than the preceding one when they received IV-MP therapy, whereas shorter episodes were significantly less frequent (10.4%) in the untreated group. This benefit was more marked (65.5% responders, 12 fewer days in an episode vs 0 days in the untreated patients) when IV-MP was infused before the 10th day of the episode. Mild, transient adverse effects (insomnia, muscle pain, nervousness/restlessness, but no manic switching) were reported by 61.3% of patients. No specific responder profile was identified.ConclusionIn this open-labeled, naturalistic study, early IV-MP (following the protocol for multiple sclerosis relapses) had a good benefit/risk ratio during KLS episodes in patients with long episodes (with half of the patients having an early cessation of episodes).Classification of evidenceThis study provides Class IV evidence that for patients with long episodes of KLS, IV steroids decrease the duration of KLS episodes.
