Because of stress and sleeping obstacle for 21th century people, the purpose of this study is to design a home decorative fabric which has the function of releasing from stress and enhancing sleeping quality. The optical fiber were sewn on the surface of optical fabric in form of three kinds of curvature patterns. Guiding the LED light into the optical fiber, the light will emit out of the optical fiber and stimulate our visual system in order to change the form of brain wave. Afterwards, the EEG instrument was used to evaluate the function of stress relaxation of such fabrics. The results were shown that human’s brain wave can be changed from relaxed and sober status to shallow-sleeping status after the stimulation of light emitting from the optical fiber fabrics. For the effect of causing shallow-sleeping status, female is more significant than male. Therefore, the light stimulating visual system by using the optical fiber fabrics can change the form of brain wave and achieve the effect of stress relaxation.

Based on overcoming the sleeping obstacle for people, the purpose of this study is to design a photo-induced biofeedback fabric which is a kind of optical fiber fabric with the function of enhancing sleeping sense and to evaluate its effect. The fabrics with two layers including background layer and pattern layer were designed firstly. The pattern layers with 3 kinds of wavelengths of sine waves and the light controller with 3 kinds of flashing frequencies were then prepared. Guiding the light into the optical fiber, it will emit out of the optical fiber and stimulate our visual system to change the form of brain wave. Finally, EEG and sleeping scale were applied to evaluate the effect of enhancing sleeping sense. The results were shown that human’s brain wave can be changed from sober status to shallow-sleeping status and the effect of enhancing sleeping sense can be achieved for all pattern layers in frequencies of 0, 5 and 10 Hz. Furthermore, female is more significant than male and participants age from 30 to 49 are the most significant. Besides, the stronger the participant’s stress is, the more significant the sleeping sense is.

In this study, our proposed ultraviolet light-emitting diode (UV LED) mosquito-trapping lamp is designed to control diseases brought by insects such as mosquitoes. In order to enable the device to efficiently catch mosquitoes in a wider area, a secondary freeform lens (SFL) is designed for UV LED. The lens is mounted on a 3 W UV LED light bar as a mosquito-trapping lamp of the new UV LED light bar module to achieve axially symmetric light intensity distribution. The special SFL is used to enhance the trapping capabilities of the mosquito-trapping lamp. The results show that when the secondary freeform surface lens is applied to the experimental outdoor UV LED mosquito-trapping lamp, the trapping range can be expanded to 100π·m2 and the captured mosquitoes increased by about 300%.

AbstractThe use of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is increasingly used in fishing gears and its application is known to trigger negative or positive phototaxis (i.e., swimming away or toward the light source, respectively) for some marine species. However, our understanding of how artificial light influences behavior is poorly understood for many species and most studies can be characterized as trial and error experiments. In this study, we tested whether exposure to white LED light could initiate a phototactic response in Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba). Trawl-caught krill were used in a controlled artificial light exposure experiment conducted onboard a vessel in the Southern Ocean. The experiment was conducted in chambers with dark and light zones in which krill could move freely. Results showed that krill displayed a significant positive phototaxis. Understanding this behavioral response is relevant to development of krill fishing technology to improve scientific sampling gear, improve harvest efficiency, and reduce potential unwanted bycatch.

The study aimed to evaluate the effect of different photon flux density (PFD) and light-emitting diodes (LED) wavelengths on strawberry Colletotrichum acutatum growth characteristics. The C. acutatum growth characteristics under the blue 450 nm (B), green 530 nm (G), red 660 nm (R), far-red 735 nm (FR), and white 5700 K (W) LEDs at PFD 50, 100 and 200 μmol m−2 s−1 were evaluated. The effect on C. acutatum mycelial growth evaluated by daily measuring until five days after inoculation (DAI). The presence of conidia and size (width and length) evaluated after 5 DAI. The results showed that the highest inhibition of fungus growth was achieved after 1 DAI under B and G at 50 μmol m−2 s−1 PFD. Additionally, after 1–4 DAI under B at 200 μmol m−2 s−1 PFD. The lowest conidia width was under FR at 50 μmol m−2 s−1 PFD and length under FR at 100 μmol m−2 s−1 PFD. Various LED light wavelengths influenced differences in C. acutatum colonies color. In conclusion, different photosynthetic photon flux densities and wavelengths influence C. acutatum growth characteristics. The changes in C. acutatum morphological and phenotypical characteristics could be related to its ability to spread and infect plant tissues. This study’s findings could potentially help to manage C. acutatum by LEDs in controlled environment conditions.

102 Introduction: Restitution of unilateral visual field defects following occipital cortex lesions occurs rarely. Partial recovery, however, can be observed in patients with incomplete lesion of the visual cortex. Our objective was to study the neuroplastic changes in the visual system that underlie such recovery. Methods and Results: Six patients with a left PCA-territory cortical stroke and 6 healthy control subjects were studied during rest and during visual stimulation using a 1.5 T fMRI with a 40 mT gradient. Visual stimuli were projected with a laptop computer onto a 154 x 115 cm screen, placed 90 cm in front of the gantry. Subjects were asked to fixate a red point in the center of the screen during both conditions. During stimulation, a black-and-white checkerboard pattern reversal was presented in each hemifield. For each side, 120 volumes of 48 contiguous axial fMRI images were obtained during rest and during hemifield stimulation in alternating order (60 volumes for each condition). Significant differences of rCBF between stimulation and rest were assessed as group analyses using statistical parametric mapping (SPM 99; p<0.01, corrected for multiple comparison). In controls, strong increases of rCBF (Z=7.6) occurred in the contralateral primary visual cortex V1 (area 17) and in V3a (area 18) and V5 (area 19). No differences were found between the right and left side in controls. During stimulation of the unaffected (left) visual field in hemianopic patients, activation occurred in contralateral V1, but the strongest increases of rCBF (Z>10) were seen in contralateral V3a (area 18) and V5 (area 19). During stimulation of the hemianopic (right) visual field, no activation was found in the primary visual cortex of either hemisphere. The most significant activation (Z=9.2) was seen in the ipsilateral V3a and V5 areas, and contralateral (left) V3a. Conclusions: Partial recovery from hemianopia is associated with strong ipsilateral activation of the visual system. Processing of visual stimuli in the hemianopic side spares the primary visual cortex and may involve recruitment of neurons in ipsilateral (contralesional) areas V3a and V5.

Hybrid composites are mostly used on large cavities as restorative dental materials, whether it is used directly or indirectly. The mechanical properties of composite resin shall increase if it is treated with post cure treatment. The aim of this study is to evaluate compressive strength differences between dry heat and Light Emitting Diodes (LED) treatment on the hybrid dental composite. A quasi-experimental was applied on this research with a total of 30 samples that were divided into two groups. Each sample was tested using LLOYD Universal Testing Machine with 1 mm/min speed to evaluate the compressive strength. The compressive strength results were marked when the sample was broken. The results of two groups were then analyzed using t-test statistical calculation. The results of this study show that post cure treatment on hybrid composite using LED light box (194.138 MPa) was lower than dry heat treatment (227.339 MPa), which was also significantly different from statistical analysis. It can be concluded that compressive strength of LED light box was lower than dry heat post-cure treatment on the hybrid composite resin.
