From the case study of Nanwan village which is one of the typical samples of Lingnan ancient villages in Guangzhou, the article summarize the features of physical morphology and social morphology in Lingnan ancient villages and analyses the meaning and problem within. Based on the planning practice, it also puts forward several conservation planning methods for physical morphology reestablishment and social morphology reestablishment of Lingnan ancient villages.

The term “biodiversity” generally refers to living variation. Biodiversity has recognized anthropocentric values of insurance and investment. Values of “nature” include those of biodiversity and also many other aspects reflecting the scope of human-nature relationships. Systematic conservation planning methods can integrate this range of local to global values. Early case studies in Australia and Papua New Guinea show the potential for such approaches. Recently, there have been calls for a recasting of the concept of biodiversity to capture plurality of values. However, balance among sometimes conflicting values of nature is best-served by a singular biodiversity concept and definition focused on variety, because this enables effective integration with other values of nature. Attempts at pluralistic recastings of biodiversity in fact may promote neglect of global biodiversity values. Further, an extended analysis of the Papua New Guinea case study shows that it cannot be argued that focusing on localized values of nature for conservation will effectively address regional/global scale conservation needs.

The curvature of the NURBS curve varies along its trajectory, therefore, the commonly used feedrate-planning method, which based on the acceleration/deceleration (Acc/Dec) model, is difficult to be directly applied in CNC machining of a NURBS curve. To address this problem, a feedrate-planning method based on the critical constraint curve of the feedrate (CCC) is proposed. Firstly, the problems of existing feedrate-planning methods and their causes are analyzed. Secondly, by considering both the curvature constraint and the kinematic constraint during the Acc/Dec process, the concept of CCC which represents the relationship between the critical feedrate-constraint value and the arc length is proposed. Then the CCC of a NURBS curve is constructed, and it has a concise expression conforming to the Acc/Dec model. Finally, a feedrate-planning method of a NURBS curve based on CCC and the Acc/Dec model is established. In the simulation, a comparison between the proposed method and the conventional feedrate-planning method is performed, and the results show that, the proposed method can reduce the Acc/Dec time by over 40%, while little computational burden being added. The machining experimental results validate the real-time performance and stability of the proposed method, and also the machining quality is verified. The proposed method offers an effective feedrate-planning strategy for a NURBS curve in CNC machining.

This paper aims to open up a discussion about relations between former Yugoslavia's socialism and planning practice resulting from self-managing system established in early 1950s. Although this system was applied through a top-down approach, it implied, at least allegedly, coordination, integration and democratic harmonisation of particular interests with common and general ones on local level. The paper will briefly review the history and concept of socialist ideology and consider the impact that it had on institutional arrangements evolution and planning practice in Serbia. It will then touch on the role of ideology for urban planning process at the local level, understanding self-managing planning principles, their benefits, role and significance in planning practice.

Cross taxa congruence was investigated between butterfly taxa and ecological community for fine spatial scale (10 × 10 km² UTM grids) in north-eastern part of Turkey. The study area was evaluated within the scope of systematic conservation planning, and analyses were performed for sets of priority protected areas composed using complementarity-based site selection software Marxan. Cross taxa congruence was subsequently examined both in species richness and ecologic complementarity. Accordingly, it has been observed that the cross-taxon congruence between butterfly taxa and ecological community was relatively better than the results of previous studies. Another remarkable finding is that ecological community was a more robust surrogate than butterfly taxa. Although the results are valuable for conservation studies, they highlight the fact that a simple surrogate-based site selection would be inadequate to represent overall biodiversity.  The weakness of congruence patterns among surrogates would also lead to gaps in biodiversity conservation. These findings therefore draw attention to the necessities of incorporating surrogates of distinct ecology or some other surrogates like environmental parameters into conservation planning. Otherwise, there may be mistakes regarding species representation and the vast majority of species may be misrepresented in protected areas and protected area plans. At this point, it should be emphasized that understating cross taxa congruence and/or relationships is a key component for efficient biodiversity conservation.

As pesquisas elaboradas para compreender a urbanização desigual em Curitiba enfatizaram o papel do planejamento urbano nesse processo. Entendendo que essa desigualdade é resultado da forma como se dá a valorização da terra e da apropriação diferenciada desta pelas camadas sociais, torna-se necessário compreender como a prática do planejamento urbano se articula a essa dinâmica. Considerando que o avanço dessa discussão deve procurar revelar as causas dessa desigualdade, e não apenas constatar sua existência, este artigo tem como objetivo compreender essa relação a partir da análise de um caso específico: o Ecoville. Originalmente concebido como uma nova frente de expansão urbana que evitaria a ocupação de áreas impróprias na cidade, sua implantação ocorreu de maneira totalmente oposta, produzindo um espaço com baixa densidade populacional voltado para camadas de alta renda. Argumenta-se que o estudo do Ecoville contribui para construir uma explicação sobre a prática do planejamento urbano em Curitiba, porque evidencia as contradições que são produzidas em torno da valorização da terra. Palavras-chave: Ecoville; Curitiba; planejamento urbano; urbanização; valorização da terra. Abstract: In order to understand the uneven urbanization in Curitiba, previous researches have emphasized the role played by urban planning on this process. Believing that this urban inequality results from the manner that land values and ways of occupation by different social classes are established, it urges then to understand the work extent of urban planning on this dynamic. The goal of this article is to move forward the debate on this field by revealing the causes of this inequality, and not only assuming its existence, through the analysis of a specific case study: “Ecoville”. Originally conceived as a new urban front that would avoid settlement at improper areas within the city, its materialisation followed a totally opposed path, producing a low density development only suitable for upper classes. The research of this case study – “Ecoville” – helps to build an explanation of the urban planning practice in Curitiba, as it reveals the contradictions that stir around land values. The ability of a mobile robot to plan its path is the key task in the field of robotics, which is to find a shortest, collision free, optimal path in the various scenes. In this paper, different existing path planning methods are presented, and classified as: geometric construction method, artificial intelligent path planning method, grid method, and artificial potential field method. This paper briefly introduces the basic ideas of the four methods and compares them. Some challenging topics are presented based on the reviewed papers.
