Poly (2-methoxy-5(2’-ethylhexyloxy)-phenylene vinylene) (MEH-PPV) thin films were deposited by spin-coating technique. The MEH-PPV powders were dissolved in toluene solution. In this study, we report the effect of ageing on electrical and optical properties MEH-PPV thin films. The thickness of MEH-PPV increased as ageing time increased. The electrical properties were obtained using 2-point probe. The resistivity of thin films decreased as ageing time increased and vice versa with conductivity. The optical properties were investigated using UV-Visible-NIR (UV-VIS-NIR) and atom force microscope (AFM). From UV-Vis result shows the lower band gaps of films in toluene solution proved MEH-PPV has longer conjugation segments. The surface roughness of thin films decreased with the increased of ageing time; which is caused by the aggregation of the MEH-PPV. The PL spectra show the quenching of emission might be due to the conjugation of length polymer changes in different ageing times.

The effect of heat treatment on the optical properties of the bulk heterojunction blend nickel (II) phthalocyanine tetrasulfonic acid tetrasodium salt and Tris (8-hydroxyquinolinato) Aluminum (NiPcTs/Alq3) thin films which prepared by spin coating was described in this study. The films coated on a glass substrate with speed of 1500 rpm for 1.5 min and treated with different annealing temperature (373, 423 and 473) K. The samples characterized using UV-Vis, X ray diffraction and Fourier transform Infrared (FTIR) spectra, XRD patterns indicated the presence of amorphous and polycrystalline blend (NiPcTs/Alq3). The results of UV visible shows that the band gap increase with increasing the annealing temperature up to 373 K and decreases with increase the annealing temperature to (423, 473)K respectively.

Thin films of poly [2-methoxy-5(2’-ethyl hexyloxy)-phenylene vinylene] (MEH-PPV) prepared from aromatic and non-aromatic solvents were obtained by spin coating techniques. The non-aromatic solvents used are chloroform and tetrahydrofuran (THF), while the aromatic solvents used are toluene and xylene. The UV-Vis and PL spectra of MEH-PPV thin films prepared from toluene and xylene slightly red shift compared to thin films from chloroform and THF. The shifting due to the aggregation formed in thin films. The SEM images of thin films prepared from aromatic solvents shows smooth surface while surface of thin films from non-aromatic is rough. The FTIR spectra of all samples show the same peak assignment of MEH-PPV.
