The effect of Ce on vitriol corrosion resistance of aluminum bronze alloy coating was studied by static immersing corrosion test, electrochemistry test, XRD, SEM, EPMA, XPS et al. The results show that Ce can improve the corrosion resistance of Cu-14%Al-X coastings. Selective corrosion happened in 5%H2SO4 solution and Al and Fe were prior to be etched. This alloy coatings possesses good corrosion resistance.

Abstract ANACONDA Alloy (C) 521 is the phosphor bronze used where the highest demand is made for resilience, strength and resistance to fatigue. It has generally higher mechanical properties than Anaconda Alloy (A) 510 which is the most widely used phosphor bronze. Alloy (C) 521 has excellent to good corrosion resistance in most environments. Typical applications include heavy-duty springs, bridge bearing plates and heavy-duty cold-headed parts. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Cu-381. Producer or source: Anaconda American Brass Company.

This study presents the effect of heat treatment on porosity, phase composition, microhardness, and wear and corrosion resistances of the thermal sprayed NiCr20 coating after sealing with aluminum phosphate. The annealing temperatures were varied in a range of 400 to 1000°C. The obtained results indicated the porosity of coating decreased with increasing the annealing temperature. After treatment at temperatures in range of 800-1000°C, more than 90% of initial pores in the coating were successfully filled with the sealants. The XRD data revealed not only the formation of new phases of other compounds, but also the interaction between coating and sealant. After heat treatment, wear resistance of coating was 12 times higher than that without heat treatment. The corrosion test in H2SO4 solution indicated that the presence of sealant in coatings increased their corrosion resistance. From these findings, application of these NiCr20 coatings to protect steel against wear and corrosion appears very promising.

Considering the good corrosion resistance of Zn-Ni alloy, it is selected in the present study to be the protective coating on mild steel and it is considered as a strong candidate for the replacement of environmentally hazardous cadmium. Zn-Ni alloy coating is applied by electrodeposition at optimum temperature, current density and time. The bath solution used is consisting of EDTA as complexing agent. The electrodeposition is also carried out with tartaric acid and benzaldehyde additives to have good corrosion resistance and brightness. The electrodeposits obtained with and without additives are examined for nature and alloy composition. The corrosion behaviour of the electrodeposits is studied by Tafel polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

Ruthenium oxide coated titanium composite powders were prepared by precipitation of ruthenium salt to improve the resistance of titanium to corrosion. The composite powders were characterized by TEM and XPS. The results show that the ruthenium oxide is evenly deposited on the Ti powders. Corrosion test for the composite powders and Ti powders was conducted in 65% sulfuric acid (mass fraction). The composite powders exhibit good corrosion resistance. The corrosion rate decreased from 98.5% to 0.48% through modification. Ru/Ti molar ratio and annealing temperature have a major impact on the corrosion resistance.

Forty-millimeter-bore ball bearings with lead and lead-alloy-coated retainers were operated in liquid hydrogen at 30000 rpm under a thrust load of 1780 Newtons (400 lb). Bearing lives were compared using different (1) lead- and lead-alloy coatings, (2) coating thicknesses, (3) substrate materials, (4) retainer locating surfaces, and (5) plating techniques. Longer bearing run times were achieved using retainers with a lead-tin-copper alloy coating electroplated onto a leaded-bronze material (22.5 hr) and an aluminum-bronze alloy (19.3 hr). Thirty percent of the bearings tested achieved the desired objective of 10 hours. All of the lead-alloy coated retainers exceeded this objective. A coating thickness of at least 36 microns (0.0014 in.) was used for all bearings exceeding the 10-hour goal.
