Because the repairing work of beam and floor after earthquake were great, and the cost were higher, the generalize application of eccentrically braced steel frame were limited. A new braced steel frame system was suggested, which was energy dissipating eccentrically brace. The experimental data of new and conventional D-type eccentrically braced steel frame system were achieved by two specimens under cyclic loading. Results indicated that the new system could put off yielding, reduce earthquake input energy and breakage of the link, reduce repairing load after earthquake, and have preferable ductility and enough lateral stiffness. The new braced steel frame system which had gained patent of invention in Chinese was practical and costly that it could be applied in present project.

Lattice light steel frame is a new type of structural system, combining general steel framework which is composed of lattice column and lattice beam with lattice light steel keel of the partitions and floors, the system takes full advantages of both structural systems, with high speed construction, less steel consumption, good earthquake-resistance etc., and possesses good prospects. The paper describes the system construction approach and the characteristics of lattice light steel frame system, and provides a project example of a villa. The design method and calculation model of the project are presented. Calculation results meet the specifications’ requirements, proving the new system can be applied to practical engineering. The paper gives guidance for application and research of this new system.

When the lateral stiffness of the frame flat column is relatively small, the strength of the frame flat column is not enough to resist the large horizontal earthquake force and seriously deformed, which leads to the structure fail and could not work normally. In order to study the bearing capacity and the deformation capacity, experiments of three specimens of high axial compressive ratio under frequency cyclic loading were conducted, in which the failure process were observed in detail and the failure mechanism of the specimens were researched, the failure type, the hysteretic characteristic were studied, and the effect of the axial compressive ratio, the ties type and the stirrup ratio on the ductility of the members were analysed.

Hysteresis characteristics of concrete filled steel tubular columns have been proposed. However, it has not been clarified if the skeleton curve could be applied for slender columns, and there are few studies about the unloading stiffness of the hysteresis loop. The purpose of this study is to compare the skeleton curves of square CFT columns, which have been proposed by the moment-rotation angle relationships and the experimental data by the previous research. The relationship between the initial stiffness obtained by the theoretical calculation and the unloading stiffness obtained by the experimental study are shown. Also the effects of the axial force ratio and the width-thickness ratio on the above mentioned relationships are discussed. The loading condition of the experimental study is monotonic and cyclic loading. It is found that the skeleton curve evaluates conservatively the bending moment-rotation angle relationships obtained by the test in both loading conditions, except for the widththickness ratio 43 specimen with cyclic loading. The ratio of unloading stiffness exKr obtained from the experimental data and calculated theoretical stiffness K was shown. The effect of the axial force ratio on the exKr/K was observed when the rotation chord angle was more than 1% and the width-thickness ratio increased as exKr/K decreased.
