Based on linear magneto-electro-elasticity, the circumferential SH wave equation of transversely isotropy piezoelectricity-piezomagnetic functionally graded cylindrical curved plate is obtained. The Legendre orthogonal polynomial series expansion approach is employed to derive its asymptotic solution. The dispersion curves, electric potential and magnetic potential distributions are calculated. The influence of the piezoelectricity and piezomagnetism on the circumferential SH wave is investigated and the influential factors are analyzed. Finally, the influence of the gradient field and the ratio of the radius to thickness on the piezoelectric effect and piezomagnetic effect are illustrated.

In this research, an analytical solution is presented for the functionally graded piezoelectric cylindrical variable wall thickness that is subjected to mechanical and electrical loading. The non-homogeneous distribution of materials is considered as a power function. The first-order electric potential theory, first-order shear deformation theory, and the energy method are used for extracting the system of governing equations. The solution is accomplished using the matched asymptotic expansion method of the perturbation technique. The effects of non-homogeneous properties on the electromechanical are discussed. Since the intensity of variations in the distribution of properties in functionally graded piezoelectric cylinders can be changed using non-homogeneity constant, the electromechanical behavior of the cylinder can be changed by non-homogeneity constant. By reducing the electric or displacement field in functionally graded piezoelectric cylinders, de-polarization or loss of piezoelectric properties may be averted. Results indicate that non-homogeneity constant has a significant effect on the electromechanical behavior. However, in some cases, the effects of non-homogeneity constant may be neglected. Comparing these results with those predicted by the plane elasticity theory and finite element method shows good agreement. In fact, the present solution can be considered as an objective function to optimize the properties and behavior.

In this article, circumferential SH wave propagation in functionally graded material (FGM) hollow cylinders is investigated. Based on the Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic theory, the controlling differential equations in terms of displacements are deduced. By the Legendre polynomial method, the asymptotic solutions are obtained. Through the numerical results, the influences of gradient profile and the influences of the radius to thickness ratio on dispersion and attenuation are illustrated. The work is crucial for guided ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation for graded hollow cylinders.

AbstractInitial stress (pre-stress) in functionally graded material (FGM) structures is often inevitable because of the limitation of available manufacturing technology. On the basis of the “mechanics of incremental deformations”, the circumferential wave characteristics in FGM cylindrical curved plates under uniform initial stresses in the radial and axial directions are investigated. The Legendre polynomial series method is used to solve the coupled wave equations with variable coefficients. Through numerical examples, the convergence of the polynomial method is discussed. The influences of the initial stresses on the circumferential Lamb-like and the circumferential SH waves are investigated, respectively. Numerical results show that they are quite distinct. Moreover, the influences of the initial stress in the axial direction are very different from those in the radial direction, both on the dispersion curves and on the displacement and stress distributions.

The piezoelectric potential generated in a bent ZnO nanorod cantilever is analyzed by means of the first piezoelectric effect approximation. The results show that the piezoelectric potential in the nanorod is proportional to lateral force but is independent along the longitudinal direction. And the electric potential in the tensile area and that of compressive area are antisymmetric in cross section of the nanorod, which makes the nanorod become a "parallel plated capacitor" for piezoelectric nanodevices, such as nanogenerator. The investigation of the carriers influence on the piezoelectric potential in a bent ZnO nanorod reveals that the positive piezoelectric potential in stretched side of the bent nanorod is significantly screened by the carriers and the negative potential in compressed side is well preserved when considering a moderate carrier concentration of
