YVO4 co-doped with Tm3+/Ho3+/Yb3+ were synthesized by the high temperature solid state method and the optical properties of phosphors were characterized. Intense visible emissions centered at around 475, 541 and 649 nm, originated from the transitions of Tm3+:1G4→3H6, Ho3:5S2/>:5F4 →5I8, Tm3+:5G4→3F4 and Ho3+:5F5→5I8, respectively, have been observed in samples upon excitation with a 980 nm laser diode, and the involved mechanisms have been explained.

Two series of phosphors, α-Sr2(1−x)Dy2xP2O7 and α-Sr2(1−2x)Dy2xLi2xP2O7, with different x values were synthesized successfully using a conventional solid-state method at high temperature for the first time, and their luminescence properties were investigated comparatively.

AbstractNovel luminescent materials Ca3-xSi2O7: xPr3+ were successfully prepared by the high-temperature solid-state method. The crystal structure, morphology, and optical spectrum were characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and spectroscopy, respectively. The XRD patterns of the samples indicate that the crystal structure is monoclinic symmetry. The SEM shows that the selected sample has good crystallinity although its appearance is irregular and scalelike. The peak of the excitation spectrum of the sample is located at around 449 nm, corresponding to 3H4→3P2 transition of Pr3+. The peak of the emission spectrum of the sample is situated at around 612 nm which is attributed to 3P0→3H6 transition of Pr3+, and the colour is orange-red. The optimum concentration for Pr3+ replaced Ca2+ sites in Ca3Si2O7: Pr3+ is 0.75 mol%. The lifetime (8.48 μs) of a typical sample (Ca2.9925Pr0.0075)Si2O7 is obtained. It reveals that orange-red phosphors Ca3-xSi2O7: xPr3+ possess remarkable optical properties and can be used in white light emitting devices.

The LiCuxMn1.95−xSi0.05O4 (x = 0, 0.02, 0.05, 0.08) samples have been obtained by a simple solid-state method. XRD and SEM characterization results indicate that the Cu-Si co-doped spinels retain the inherent structure of LiMn2O4 and possess uniform particle size distribution. Electrochemical tests show that the optimal Cu-doping amount produces an obvious improvement effect on the cycling stability of LiMn1.95Si0.05O4. When cycled at 0.5 C, the optimal LiCu0.05Mn1.90Si0.05O4 sample exhibits an initial capacity of 127.3 mAh g−1 with excellent retention of 95.7% after 200 cycles. Moreover, when the cycling rate climbs to 10 C, the LiCu0.05Mn1.90Si0.05O4 sample exhibits 82.3 mAh g−1 with satisfactory cycling performance. In particular, when cycled at 55 °C, this co-doped sample can show an outstanding retention of 94.0% after 100 cycles, whiles the LiMn1.95Si0.05O4 only exhibits low retention of 79.1%. Such impressive performance shows that the addition of copper ions in the Si-doped spinel effectively remedy the shortcomings of the single Si-doping strategy and the Cu-Si co-doped spinel can show excellent cycling stability.

CdSiO3: Mn2+, Er3+long-lasting phosphor was prepared by the conventional high temperature solid-state method. Effects of the concentration of Mn2+and Er3+on the luminescent properties of phosphor CdSiO3: Mn2+, Er3+were investigated by means of photoluminescence (PL) spectra and the afterglow intensity decay curves. It was found that when the Mn2+and Er3+dopant-concentrations were 0.2 mol% and 0.8 mol% of Cd2+ions in CdSiO3, respectively, the luminescence of phosphor prepared had better luminescent property and longer afterglow time. The phosphorescence for it could be seen with the naked eye for more than 60 min in the dark after the removal of the 254 nm UV light. Role of Er3+co-doped into CdSiO3: Mn2+matrix was discussed in this paper.
