TiO2/SBA-15 and AgCl loaded on TiO2/SBA-15(AgCl-TiO2/SBA-15) composites were synthesized by a facile method. All products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and N2adsorption-desorption analysis. Photocatalytic activities of the composites were assessed by the photocatalytic decomposition of methyl orange (MO). The results indicated that TiO2or TiO2-AgCl existed in the matrix SBA-15, which reduced the specific surface area, pore volume and pore size of the matrix. The photocatalytic performances of TiO2/SBA-15 were higher than that of pure TiO2, and the resultant AgCl-TiO2/SBA-15 composites showed much higher photocatalytic performances than TiO2/SBA-15.

Transparent oxyflouride glass ceramics composed of SiO2–Al2O3–Na2O–NaF–YF3 tri-coped with Nd3+/Yb3+/Ho3+ were prepared by thermal treatment. Segregation of NaYF4 nanocrystals in the matrix was confirmed from structural analysis by means of X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Compared with glass samples, very strong green upconversion (UC) luminescence due to the Ho3+:(4F5, 5S2)→5I8 transition was observed in the glass ceramics under 808 nm excitation. It was found that upconversion intensity of Ho3+ strongly depends on the Nd3+ concentration, and the energy transfer process from Nd3+ to Ho3+ via Yb3+ was proposed.

AbstractThe equiaxed Ni-based superalloy René 108 was subjected to short-term annealing at five temperatures between 900 °C and 1100 °C. The phase composition, phase lattice parameters, microstructure, stereological parameters, and chemical composition of γ′ precipitates were investigated by thermodynamic simulations, X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Analysis of the γ and γ′ lattice parameters using the Nelson-Riley extrapolation function showed that the misfit parameter for temperatures 900 °C to 1050 °C is positive (decreasing from 0.32 to 0.11 pct). At 1100 °C, the parameter becomes negative, δ = − 0.18 pct. During the short-term annealing, γ′ precipitates dissolution occurred progressing more rapidly with increasing temperatures. The surface fraction of γ′ precipitates decreased with increasing temperature from 0.52 to 0.34. The dissolution of γ′ precipitates did not only proceed through uninterrupted thinning of each individual precipitate, but also included more complex mechanisms, including splitting. Based on transmission electron microscopy, it was shown that after γ′ precipitates dissolution, the matrix close to the γ/γ′ interface is strongly enriched in Co and Cr and depleted in Al.

The highly dispersed TiO2 sols composed of anatase crystallites (ca.5 nm) were prepared by peptization of amorphous precipitates with trifluoroactic acid (TFA) during the synthesis. The size and crystallinity of the particles were tuned by the subsequent hydrothermal treatment. The prepared TiO2 nanocrystals were characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The TEM results indicated that the growth of the crystallites could be inhibited by the increasing addition of TFA and the average sizes of TiO2 nanocrystals were all ultrafine. The degradation of phenol over the nanocrystals after calcination at 500 °C was investigated. The photocatalytic results showed that the sample with a high addition of TFA obtained a better photocatalytic property than that of the commercial TiO2

TiO2-graphene (TiO2-RGO) nanocomposites were preparedviaa simple chemical method by using graphene oxide (GO) and TiO2nanoparticles as starting materials. The morphologies and structural properties of the as-prepared composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, N2adsorption-desorption measurements, and transmission electron microscopy. TiO2-RGO nanocomposites exhibited great photocatalytic activity toward reduction of CO2into CH4(2.10 μmol g−1 h−1) and CH3OH (2.20 μmol g−1 h−1), which is attributed to the synergistic effect between TiO2and graphene.

Mesoporous TiO2 with anatase crystalline structure (MTiO2) has been synthesized by using Lac Red as template. The synthesized mesoporous titania samples were characterized by a combination of various physicochemical techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), N2 adsorption/desorption. It was found that without any external doping MTiO2 exhibited significant high adsorption abilities for adsorbing the gaseous acetaldehyde by the adsorption ratio of 39.15%.

CO2solid adsorbent was prepared through impregnating acrylonitrile (AN) modified monoethanolamine (MEA) into structurally disordered mesoporous silica (M) pore channel. Its structure was characterized by X-ray diffraction characterization (XRD), N2adsorption-desorption tests (BET), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The capacity of CO2adsorption and desorption were measured and evaluated by comparison with MEA-impregnated material. The results showed that the capacity of M-MN-50 reached up to 125.8 mg·g-1and could desorb completely at the temperature of 40 °C by vacuum with 2.6 KPa. The hybrid material exhibited satisfactory performance during 10 turnovers.

BiOCl with 3D flower-like morphology was synthesized via a facile glycerol-mediated solvothermal method. The obtained products were well crystallized and subsequently characterized by a range of methods, such as X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED). The photocatalytic properties of the prepared samples were further investigated by photocatalytic decomposition of Methyl Orange (MO) dye. It is found that BiOCl hierarchical nanostructures exhibit efficient photocatalytic activities under UV light irradiation, which can decompose MO in a few minutes.

The γ-Bi2MoO6nanoplates with uniform length and width about 100-200nm have been successfully fabricated by SDS assistant hydrothermal process. The γ-Bi2MoO6nanoplates were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The results show that the SDS plays an important role in controlling the crystallization and morphologies of Bi2MoO6. The γ-Bi2MoO6nanoplates show high efficient photocatalytic activities in decomposition of methyl orange.

The phenomenon of clustering in Al-Ag alloys has been extensively studied since the early work of Guinierl, wherein the pre-precipitation state was characterized as an assembly of spherical, ordered, silver-rich G.P. zones. Subsequent x-ray and TEM investigations yielded results in general agreement with this model. However, serious discrepancies were later revealed by the detailed x-ray diffraction - based computer simulations of Gragg and Cohen, i.e., the silver-rich clusters were instead octahedral in shape and fully disordered, atleast below 170°C. The object of the present investigation is to examine directly the structural characteristics of G.P. zones in Al-Ag by high resolution transmission electron microscopy.

Chert samples from different coastal and inland outcrops in the Eastern Asturias (Spain) were mineralogically investigated for the first time for archaeological purposes. X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, transmission electron microscopy, infrared and Raman spectroscopy and total organic carbon techniques were used. The low content of moganite, since its detection by X-ray diffraction is practically imperceptible, and the crystallite size (over 1000 Å) of the quartz in these cherts would be indicative of its maturity and could potentially be used for dating chert-tools recovered from archaeological sites. Also, this information can constitute essential data to differentiate the cherts and compare them with those used in archaeological tools. However, neither composition nor crystallite size would allow distinguishing between coastal and inland chert outcrops belonging to the same geological formations.
