In this paper, using the universal finite element analysis software SAP2000 to build a large span cable-stayed bridge with finite element model, using a stepwise analysis finite element method to study the concrete shrinkage and creep efforts on the main beam inner force and deformation, cable tension during the cable-stayed bridge construction process and after the bridge. Research results show that the effects of shrinkage and creep in the finished bridge cannot be ignored, and the results can be used as reference for the design of similar projects.

Finite element analysis and calculation are held on the superstructure of the auxiliary channel bridge at the right branching of Beijiang Bridge for a short condition and the service phase. The theoretical launching force is calculated and amended in construction. The results show that when considering load effects such as the dead loads of box girders, the live loads of decks and the pre-stressed secondary forces, the eccentric stress state will appear on the webs, and the steel stress produced by shrinkage and creep of concrete can not be ignored. So the launching force must be amended during the construction process. These conclusions have a certain reference value on the bridge design and construction.

The natural rubber compound of each layer of solid tire had determined the mechanical properties in tension. It was found that the stress-strain relation of each material tire layer was fitted very well with the Ogden constitutive model. The R2 which was 0.986, 0.996 and 0.985 represented the certain curve fitting on the internal, middle and tread layer of solid tire, respectively. Subsequently, the Ogden model was implemented in the finite element model of the rubber specimen and solid tire. The finite element analysis results obtained an average error of 18.00% and 14.63% for the specimen and solid tire model by comparing to the physical experiment, respectively. Particularly, the mechanical properties of the natural compounds could be used to predict the ultimate compression load for the solid tire failure.

In the traditional designs of milling cutter, we cannot get the required accuracy of machining as there may be local deformation on the edges, even more the cutter can break down. Aiming at this situation, a finite-element model of straight pin milling cutter with helical tooth are built using Marc, a nonlinear finite-element analysis software, the different cutting forces of the milling cutter during the cutting process are analyzed and the cutting forces of the milling cutter at different parameters are studied. We get the stress, the strain and the temperature distribution of the milling cutter in different situation. Our work offer a theoretical basis of improving stress of the cutter, designing the structure of cutters reasonably and analyzing the cutter failure as well as a new method of analysis and calculation of the cutter life and strength.

There are many instances where creating finite element analysis (FEA) requires extensive time and effort. Such instances include finite element analysis of tree branches with complex geometries and varying mechanical properties. In this paper, we discuss the development of Immediate-TREE, a program and its associated Guided User Interface (GUI) that provides researchers a fast and efficient finite elemental analysis of tree branches. This process was discussed in which finite element analysis were automated with the use of computer generated Python files. Immediate-TREE uses tree branch’s data (geometry, mechanical properties and etc.) provided through experiment and generates Python files, which were then run in finite element analysis software (Abaqus) to complete the analysis. Immediate-TREE is approximately 240 times faster than creating the model directly in the FEA software (Abaqus). The process used to develop Immediate-TREE can be applied to other finite element analysis of biological systems such as bone and tooth.

Nanoindentation methods are well suited for probing the mechanical properties of a heterogeneous surface, since the probe size and contact volumes are small and localized. However, the nanoindentation method may introduce errors in the computed mechanical properties when indenting near the interface between two materials having significantly different mechanical properties. Here we examine the case where a soft material is loaded in close proximity to an interface of higher modulus, such as the case when indenting bone near a metallic implant. The results are derived from both an approximate analytical quarter space solution and a finite element model, and used to estimate the error in indentation-determined elastic modulus as a function of the distance from the apex of contact to the dissimilar interface, for both Berkovich and spherical indenter geometries. Sample data reveal the potential errors in mechanical property determination that can occur when indenting near an interface having higher stiffness, or when characterizing strongly heterogeneous materials. The results suggest that caution should be used when interpreting results in the near-interfacial region.

Railways provide a long and continuous journey for passengers and goods at an affordable cost. The rails and rail joints should be of high quality to ensure a safer transportation of people and goods. The tracks (rail) are made of alloys of iron and are fastened to other rails using fasteners. Nowadays, these fasteners are replaced with welded joints because of rising maintenance issues. Thermite welding is a globally adopted process for welding the rails. This article aims to best utilise the Aluminium composites for the welding of rails. The composites were prepared using stir casting route and a wear test was done on the casted samples to test their durability. Also, some of the mechanical properties of the composite material were found. The rail and track models were made and imported into ANSYS Finite Element Analysis software. The predicted results show that aluminium composites have considerable strength when compared to any other composite material.

The finite element model about greenhouse canopy of seismic analysis was setted up, The finite element analysis software ANSYS was used to study structure displacement, stress analysis on greenhouse shed. The results showed that the dangerous part of the canopy were located on upper chord members,lower chord members, web members of the framework and the lower and upper, the inside of both sides of the wall with seismic load.Corresponding to this results ,the main destroied form were the framework damage caused by the bending deformation of upper chord members, lower chord members and the upper web members and the unstability caused by the distortion of both sides of the wall.

Structure finite element analysis software ANSYS is used to establish relatively complete finite element model for automatic side wall formwork trolley, analyze the stability of formwork trolley under light condition and work condition, and give a correct classification on working conditions of formwork trolley. Main factors influencing the stability of formwork trolley are found and improving measures are proposed to provide reference for optimal structure design and standardized design of formwork trolley.

This paper has established geometry model of the rigid-plastic Finite Element Model (FEM) basing on the foundation of similarity theory. It has simulated and analyzed the material of ASTM-Gr.D used by finite element analysis software of metal plastic DEFORM with different negative clearance values blanking, which obtains the caver of the different negative clearance values with roll-over with sheared zone with punching load. According to the result of simulation, it has made an experiment on the ASTM-Gr.D of 2.0(mm) thickness with the different negative clearance, and obtained samples with sheared well and no burr, which summarized that it could achieve no burr in fine blanking when the values of negative clearances value took -0.1 ~ -0.3mm.
