Submerged Floating Tunnels are a new type of infrastructure, still representing a challenge in structural engineering both from the theoretical and the practical point of view. In this paper some issues arisen in generating the seaquake input (transmission through water of the effects of the seabed seismic motion) for a 3D finite element analysis of Submerged Floating Tunnels are presented and discussed. This loading source has been pointed out buy preliminary analyses as an important additional hydrodynamic loading on the tunnel which can play a significant role, and thus deserves further investigations.

Integral sum graph was introduced by Harary. This theory is a labeling of graph. From a practical point of view, integral sum graph labeling can be used as a compressed representation of a graph, a data structure for representing the graph, and an alternative method for defining and storing graphs. In this paper, to give an integral sum labeling of fan graph, and to prove that all multiple composite fan graph are integral sum graphs with the sequence label method.

The Submerged Floating Tunnels are one new type of infrastructure, representing a challenge in structural engineering, both on the theoretical and operational fields. In this paper, a 3D finite element analysis procedure is developed accounting for material and geometrical nonlinearities, soil-structure interaction and multiple-support seismic excitation. A comparison between dynamic response in case of elastic and inelastic material behavior of the anchor bars is given, which shows the beneficial effect of this source of energy dissipation. Furthermore, the effects of introducing dissipation devices for restraining the tunnel axial motion have been investigated as well. Besides this, the earthquake transmission through water (seaquake) is here introduced as an additional hydrodynamic loading on the tunnel. The ensuing increase of loading in the tunnel indicates that a significant role is played by this loading source and highlights the need of further investigations on seaquake effects.

Stress shielding, which occurred always around traditional one part implant applied for prosthetic artificial lower limb attachment, would cause osteoporosis and thus result in the loose and extrusion, and then the malfunction of the implant. To improve the structure of the implant, a new type of implant—multi-part implant was developed in this article. Based on CT data and under the maximal load during a normal walking cycle, 3D finite element analysis (FEA) was carried out to analyze the stress of bone around the new implant in three cases of distally truncated femur at high position、middle-position and low-position. Results reveal that stress shielding and stress concentration under the new type of implant reduced effectively compared with the traditional one-part implant, and the stress distribution is much close to the natural bone. Application for distally truncated femur at middle-position and low-position was much better, while stress concentration was marked at high-position. Meanwhile, the stability in vivo can also be maintained with the multi-part implant. The new implant is promising applied for prosthetic limb.

The present paper aims to analyse through a systematic approach the notion of “community” encountered in the works of Jacob Taubes. Under a theologico-political scenario, the author discusses the political framework of Saint Paul in his Letter to the Romans. According to Taubes, the Apostle inaugurates a new type of sovereignty — acquired by the grace of God, and not by the divine law. Ultimately, the plan of Paul is to create a new “life” for the community of Christians through spirit (gr. πνεῦμα) and the highest form of love (gr. ἀγάπη). According to the author, the Letter to the Romans perfectly illustrates the transformation of the political, where the idea of hierarchy is replaced with the one of equilibrium; under this equation religion is not authority, but participation in community. From a more practical point of view, the political theology of Jacob Taubes is interested in answering the following dilemma: how is it possible for a community that sees its Lord crucified on the Cross not to create rebellions, but, on the contrary, to generally cultivate an obedient attitude towards state authority? Ultimately, while mapping the author’s understanding of community, the paper also brings into attention what the transformation of the political means for Taubes and why political theology is the scenario that accommodates the revolutionised community.

The vulnerability of the UHV porcelain arrester is very high under strong earthquake. To rise seismic reliability of the UHV porcelain arrester, a new type lead damper, which is a new patent product, is installed at the bottom of the equipment. To investigate the damping effect of the dampers, the experimental research and finite element analysis on seismic behavior of the UHV porcelain arrester with and without the dampers are carried out by means of single point input and single point output(SISO)measurement. The analyzed results show that the damper is well functioning, effectively decreasing stochastic earthquake response of the UHV porcelain arrester, thus the seismic reliability of porcelain arrester is improved. A seismic reliability analysis method is put forward based on the stochastic earthquake model .The mean and standard deviation of the seismic responses of the arrester with and without the dampers under the different site conditions are gained based on physical stochastic seismic motion model. Then its seismic reliability is calculated by the FOSM, and the fragility curves of the arrester are built. Calculation result shows that seismic reliability of the arrester with the dampers can be effectively enhanced under Ms 8.0 earthquake. A conclusion is given that the damper is capable to improve the seismic reliability of the UHV porcelain arrester effectively, and may be widely applied to the seismic design of the UHV porcelain arrester.

The Paris Metropolitan area, which contains over eight million inhabitants, has a daily output of about 3 M cu.meters of wastewater, the purification of which is achieved by SIAAP (Paris Metropolitan Area Sewage Service) in both Achères and Valenton plants. The carbon pollution is eliminated from over 2 M cu.m/day at Achères. In order to improve the quality of output water, its tertiary nitrification in fixed-bed reactors has been contemplated. The BIOFOR (Degremont) and BIOCARBONE (OTV) processes could be tested in semi-industrial pilot reactors at the CRITER research center of SIAAP. At a reference temperature of 13°C, the removed load is approximately 0.5 kg N NH4/m3.day. From a practical point of view, it may be asserted that in such operating conditions as should be at the Achères plant, one cubic meter of filter can handle the tertiary nitification of one cubic meter of purified water per hour at an effluent temperature of 13°C.
