Semiconductor manufacturing is a capital-intensive and high-tech industry. In order to reduce installation cost and increase production flexibility, twin-fab concept has been established over the past decade, which means two neighboring fabs can be connected to each other by automatic transportation system (AMHS). The capacity backup can be performed between twin fabs to increase whole performance. In this work, a performance evaluation model is proposed to estimate the whole production performance of twin fabs under backup policy. Two situations of capacity shortage are discussed, temporary and permanent capacity shortage. The queuing theory and Little’s Law are used in this model. Besides, the expected value is applied for the estimation of the transportation time under backup activities. Based on the evaluation model, managers can obtain an appropriate estimation of performance under capacity backup in twin-fab environment, which will help to get the reliable information for decision making.

This paper derives related-industry from input-output method, and is the first to apply the result into the study of the externality effect of within-industry agglomeration and related-industry co-agglomeration. As a main form of externality, localization economy can be resolved into within-industry agglomeration and related-industry co- agglomeration, this paper used Input-Output method and principle component analysis to identify related-industry. This paper finds the empirical evidence of within-industry agglomeration and related-industry co-agglomeration, within-industry agglomeration is the main source for labor-intensive industries, and related-industry co-agglomeration is the main source for capital-intensive and high-tech industry industries. This paper also finds that productivity will vary in an "inverted U" shape with the increase of within-industry agglomeration and related-industry co-agglomeration degree. These findings are beneficial for Government to make decisions of industry transfer.

Purpose In the past decade, a high substantial number of academic literature and press articles have questioned merger or acquisition (M&A) transactions. If this enthusiasm towards M&A can be explained by the importance and the influence of any merger or acquisition decision for a company, it can be also attributed to the volume and the number of transactions that have been reported. This paper aims to analyse the value and the valuation of the most recent M&A deal in high tech industry. Design/methodology/approach This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context. Findings The valuation tools and methods play a central role in M&A deal. Improving these tools to capture the uncertainty that embeds M&A deals remain the most challenging task for both practitioners and researchers. Practical implications The paper provides strategic insights and practical thinking that have influenced some of the world’s leading organizations. Originality/value The briefing saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy-to-digest format.

The article refers to the issues related to the development of high-tech industry. The text describes the history of the beginning of its development that as well as the main factors that determine its origins that development and location. Scientific description highlights the importance of high-tech industry. It is the cooperation of scientific knowledge with technological capabilities of the twenty-first century and a reasonable use of the opportunities offered by financial institutions while using the modern infrastructure. aim of this work is to identify the role of high-tech industry in the economy of European countries, especially Polish. The description illustrating the situation of the world technology helps decide the place of Poland in technological reality. Large differences in the political burden of the past significantly delayed the Polish industry. The positives of the current situation of Polish industry are constantly increasing expenditures on research and development and the use of the possibilities offered by EU funds for the financing of innovative projects. The existence of technology parks and special economic zones in Poland described in the article also brings with it the opportunities for the development of high-tech in the future.

Under industry globalization and the intensely competitive environment, a company's competitiveness must constantly be upgraded in order to achieve the goal of sustainability. Therefore, the correct and valid evaluation of companies’ sustainable performance has become an important issue. The main purpose of this study is to discuss and establish a sustainable performance evaluation criteria and model for companies. First, the measurements of companies’ financial, credit risk, environmental and social responsibility are integrated to create sustainable business performance evaluation criteria. Then, we integrate grey relational analysis and an improved TOPSIS method to construct a sustainable performance evaluation model for companies. In order to verify the findings of this study, we adopt Taiwan's high-tech listed companies as the research object to explore sustainable operating performance and ranking in 2011. The empirical results will help companies to build future business strategies and can also be used as an important reference for investor and bank credit auditing.

While mobile networks provide many opportunities for people, they face security problems huge enough that a firewall is essential. The firewall in mobile networks offers a secure intranet through which all traffic is handled and processed. Furthermore, due to the limited resources in mobile networks, the firewall execution can impact the quality of communication between the intranet and the Internet. In this paper, a performance evaluation mathematical model for firewall system of mobile networks is developed using queuing theory for a multihierarchy firewall with multiple concurrent services. In addition, the throughput and the package loss rate are employed as performance evaluation indicators, and discrete-event simulated experiments are conducted for further verification. Lastly, experimental results are compared to theoretically obtained values to identify a resource allocation scheme that provides optimal firewall performance and can offer a better quality of service (QoS) in mobile networks.

The purpose of this article is focusing attention on the relevant problematic issues that exist in the sphere of legal regulation of domestic area of high technologies, as well as finding ways of their effective solution. Noted that the legal regulation of objects and phenomena surrounding the domestic information technology (IT) sphere is quite weak and insufficient compared to other countries. Effectively functioning practices of legal regulation of the sphere of high technologies that exist in developed democracies are analyzed for their compliance with the realities of the domestic legal system. Considerable attention is paid to the characteristics of the current state of functioning of IT law and legislation in democracies. The initial successes that have already been achieved in Ukraine in relation to the IT sphere in the past were analyzed. The perspective directions of further development of IT law, as well as related domestic and international legislation, are considered. It is pointed out that the development of both the domestic high-tech industry and the functioning of IT law and legislation are inextricably linked with the democratization of the country. The methodological basis for writing the article was a set of general scientific and special methods and techniques of scientific knowledge.
