In order to understand the variation of ammonia as a cooling refrigerant, the ammonia coolant is being used in power plant air cooling system. The subcooled boiling phase transformation of ammonia in a horizontal pipe tube was simulated through the application of the CFD fluid computational platform, the fluid state parameters in the tube were given at the same time. The speed variation along the axis of the tube was obtained, the speed is increasing, the Reynolds number corresponding substantial increase in the convective heat transfer coefficient corresponds to raise; The vapor volume fraction and boiling heat transfer coefficient along the tube were obtained. The boiling can strengthen the heat transfer significantly. The results showed that the ammonia as a cooling refrigerant by raising the Reynolds number and the use of the latent heat absorb these dual characteristics to improve the heat transfer coefficient is worth promoting.

Experiments were performed to evaluate the convective heat transfer coefficient for a flat plate mounted in a wooden model of a roof of a building. The experiments were carried out in a closed-circuit wind tunnel and included parametric adjustments of the roof tilt and Reynolds number, based on the length of the plate. The roof tilt was set at 0, 30, 45, 60, and 90 degrees and the Reynolds number ranged from 58,000 to 250,000. A transient, one lump, thermal approach was used for heat transfer calculations. Due to a separation bubble at the leading edge of the model, i.e., the roof, at angles of attack of less than 40 degrees, the flow became turbulent after reattachment. This resulted in a higher heat transfer than previously reported in the literature. At higher angles of attack, the flow was not separated at the leading edge and remained laminar. The heat transfer coefficient for higher angles of attack, i.e., α > 40 deg, was found to be approximately independent of the angle of attack and in good agreement with the previously published results.

In this paper, the statistical analysis of the effect of nanoparticles volume fraction on one of the most important thermal characteristics turbulent flow of nanofluid i.e. convection heat transfer coefficient, inside a circular tube with uniform wall heat flux is investigated numerically. Also, water as a base fluid and Al2O3 as suspended particles with a diameter of 36 nm are considered. Heat transfer characteristics are computed using the solution of elliptic equations based on discrete the finite volume method and the second order upwind. The relationship between pressure and velocity using SIMPLEC algorithm is established. In this study, the variation of volume fraction of nanoparticles is assumed in the range of 0 to 6%. The best probability distribution function of the heat transfer parameters are selected using chi square test that various probability distribution such as: Gamma, Normal, Lognormal, Gumbel, and Frechet are evaluated based on numerical analysis of tube flow. After reviewing the results, it was found that with increasing volume fraction of nanoparticles, the convective heat transfer coefficient increases. On the other hand, the convective heat transfer coefficients with regard to variation of volume fraction of nanoparticles follow Gumbel Max probability distribution function.

The present study investigated the thermal effects of the use of nanoparticles in the fuel-oil and water-based fluids, as well as the numerical simulation of laminar flow of fuel-oil-alumina and the water-alumina nanofluids in a channel. A second order discretization method was used for solving equations and a SIMPLE algorithm was applied for pressure-velocity coupling using Fluent. Effect of nanoparticle volume fraction and particles size in different Reynolds numbers (900≤Re≤2100) on the convective heat transfer coefficient was studied. The simulation was conducted for three different volume fractions and particle sizes in the laminar flow under constant heat flux. The results showed that adding nanoparticles to the base fluid caused an increase in the thermal conductivity ratio of the fluid, which was observed to a greater degree in the fuel oil-alumina nanofluid than in the water-alumina nanofluid. The increase in nanoparticle volume fraction caused an increase in the convective heat transfer coefficient and the Nusselt number of the nanofluids. The significant point of this study was that in the same volume fraction, the effect of adding alumina nanoparticles to the fuel-oil-based fluid had more effect than adding these particles to water-based fluid, while the effect of increasing the Reynolds number in the water-alumina nanofluid on convective heat transfer coefficient was greater than the fuel-oil-alumina. Also, in the same Reynolds number and volume fraction with increasing size of nanoparticles, the value of the convective heat transfer coefficient was decreased. The results of this study can be used in refineries and petrochemical industries where the fuel-oil fluid flows in the channels.

Experimental and CFD studies were performed to investigate the enhancement of convective heat transfer in a laminar cooling system using flow pulsation in a flat channel with series of regular spaced fins. Glycerol-water mixtures with dynamic viscosities in the range of 0.001 kg/ms–0.01 kg/ms were used. A steady flow Reynolds number in the laminar range of 10 < Re < 1200 was studied. The amplitudes of the applied pulsations are in the range of 0.25 < A < 0.55 mm and the frequency range is 10 < f < 60 Hz. Two different cooling devices with active length L = 450 mm and 900 mm were investigated. CFD simulations were performed on a parallel-computer (Linux-cluster) using the software suit CFX11 from ANSYS GmbH, Germany. The rate of cooling was found to be significant at moderate low net flow rates. In general, no significant heat transfer enhancement at very low and high flow rates was obtained in compliance with the experimental data. The heat transfer coefficient was found to increase with increasing Prandtl number Pr at constant oscillation Reynolds number Reosc whereas the ratio of the hydraulic diameter to the length of the channel dh/L has insignificant effect on the heat transfer coefficient. This is due to enhanced fluid mixing. CFD results allow for performance predictions of different geometries and flow conditions.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate increasing heat transfer in bend tube 90° by fluid injection using nano fluid flow that was performed by expending varying Reynolds number. This paper studies the increased heat transfer in the bent tube that used some parameters to examine the effects of volume fraction, nanoparticle diameter, fluid injection, Reynolds number on heat transfer and flow in a bend pipe. Design/methodology/approach Designing curved tubes increases the thermal conductivity amount between fluid and wall. It is used the finite volume method and simple algorithms to solve the conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy. The results showed that the nanoparticles used in bent tube transfusion increase the heat transfer performance by increasing the volume fraction; it has a direct impact on enhancing the heat transfer coefficient. Findings Heat transfer coefficient enhanced 1.5% when volume fraction increased from 2 % to 6%, the. It is due to the impact of nanoparticles on the thermal conductivity of the fluid. The fluid is injected into the boundary layer flow due to jamming that enhances heat transfer. Curved lines used create a centrifugal force due to the bending and lack of development that increase the heat transfer. Originality/value This study has investigated the effect of injection of water into a 90° bend before and after the bend. Specific objectives are to analyze effect of injection on heat transfer of bend tube and pressure drop, evaluate best performance of mixing injection and bend in different positions and analyze effect of nano fluid volume fraction on injection.

An experiment was performed to determine the convective heat-transfer coefficient to heated and cooled gas solids suspensions at a Reynolds number of 130,000. Measurements of the heat transfer were performed by traversing the stream at various locations along the pipe with specially designed probes which measured air and particle temperature locally. The results showed that for a high Reynolds number, the heat-transfer coefficient for the suspension appears to be equal to that of the pure gas at the same Reynolds number, and independent of solids loading ratio, heating or cooling, and particle size (between 0.0011 and 0.0058 in. dia).

In this study, variations of local heat transfer coefficient are obtained in subcooled flow boiling conditions for water/TiO2 nanofluid in a vertical and horizontal tube. The results for the base fluid are compared with the predictions of the well known Shah correlation and Gnielinski formula for laminar and turbulent flows for single-phase forced convection and also with Chen correlation for subcooled flow boiling. A good agreement between the results is realized. At the subcooled regime, heat transfer coefficient of nanofluid is less than that of the base fluid and it decreases by increasing nanoparticle concentration for both of the channels; however, addition of the nanopraticles into the fluid causes that the vapor volume fraction increases.

A comprehensive experiment was conducted for heat transfer characteristics for an array of impinging gaseous slot jets to a flat plate with strong turbulence (nozzle exit Reynolds number Re=22500~64700).Find that turbulence intensity of flow has an important influence on local forced convective heat transfer coefficient. Meanwhile, the nozzle-to-plate spacing and nozzle exit Reynolds number Re would affect the mean forced convective heat transfer coefficient of the slot jets. And heat transfer efficiency of slot jets has been set to show the relation between ability of the jets and energy consumption of gas supply.

Convective heat transfer coefficient and friction factor of a nanofluid in rectangular microchannel were measured. An integrated microsystem consisting of a single microchannel on one side and two localized heaters and five polysilicon temperature sensors along the channel on the other side were fabricated. Aluminum dioxide (Al2O3) nanofluids with various particle volume fractions were used in experiment to investigate the effect of the volume fraction of the nanoparticles to the convective heat transfer and fluid flow in microchannels. The convective heat transfer coefficient of the Al2O3 nanofluid in laminar flow regime was measured to be increased up to 15% compared to the distilled water at a volume fraction of 1.8 volume percent without major friction loss. The Nusselt number measured increases with increasing the Reynolds number in laminar flow regime. A new type of convective heat transfer correlation was proposed to correlate experimental data of heat transfer coefficient for nanofluids in microchannels.
