Tests of bird strike have been carried out on plate made from LY-12 Aluminium. The test was down with the projectile impacting the target perpendicularly at velocity of 40m/s, 80m/s, 120m/s respectively. The displacement-time history curves and strain-time history curves of on LY-12 Aluminium plate were measured. The good agreement of the results between two specimens in one group indicated that the results tested in the presnet paper are reliable. The dynamic response of the plate and damage modes of the bird influenced by striking velocity were analyzed. The peak value of the displacement linear enlarged with the increasing of the striking velocity. The test results in the present paper provided valuable data for aircraft design impacted by bird, and also provided abundant test datas for the numerical simulation model applied in bird striking.

Abstract The broken ice is one of the most common ice conditions for ice-going ships, and the research of ship maneuvering movement in broken ice field can improve sailing safety. In this paper, the discrete element method (DEM) was adopted to study the maneuverable forces, including resistance and transverse force, of ice-going ship oblique sailing in broken ice fields. First, the Araon model tests data of Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST) was used to verify the ice resistance of direct sailing under different ice sizes and model speeds, and the numerical results are in good agreement with the test results. Second, the influences of broken ice parameters (including concentration, thickness, and shape) on ship-ice interaction and maneuverable forces distribution were researched. The maneuverable forces on the ice-going ships are mainly from the ship-ice interaction. The time history curves of maneuverable forces were analyzed from the average value of maneuverable forces, the average value of peak maneuverable forces, and the number of peaks. Besides, the parameters of broken ice have a heavy influence on the movement of broken ice around the hull, such as accumulating and sliding. The analysis of the broken ice movement contributes to understanding the influences of broken ice parameters on ice-going ships.

The two-floor flow passages pumping system with the simple structure is well practical in the Basin of Yangzi River downstream. However, this kind of pumping system has some disadvantages, such as low efficiency, easy to appear submerse vortex in discharge flow passages which causes the unit vibration and does harm to the operating of pump unit. In order to solve these problems, the design scheme with a new curve of diffusing outlet structure and inlet cone put forward, which are used in the renovation of the two-floor flow passages pumping station. With the numerical simulation of the two-floor flow passages pumping system, the flow fields are analyzed, and the external performance curves are obtained. To verify the calculation, a model tests were done using the standard model of pump. The test results are compared with the performance curves of numerical simulation. Good agreement of two results is found in the high efficiency area, which can show the calculation is believable. The new design improves the efficiency of pumping system significantly and eliminates the submerse vortex, also can guarantees the economy and security of operating.

The dynamic response of fluid-filled hemispherical shell in mass impact is studied by experiment using DHR9401. Combining the time history of impact force with experimental observation of the deformation process, it can be seen that the dynamic response can be divided into four stages: the flattening around the impact point, the forming and expanding outward of shell plastic hinge, the plastic edge region flatten by the punch, and elastic recovery. The experimental results show that: Because the shell filled with liquid, the local impact load that the shell suffered is translated into area load and loads on the inner shell uniformly, so that it has a high carrying capacity. Numerical simulation is used to study the time history of energy absorption of different shell structures. The result shows that the crashworthiness of sandwich fluid-filled shell is improved greatly. Under the certain impact energy, deformation of its inner shell is very small, which can provide effective security space.

Prism pull-out test results was used to build anchorage bonding interface slip model(ABISM), with this model, the behaviors of post-embedded bars in reinforced concrete with different anchorage depth were analyzed by one-dimensional numerical method, and the calculation values was compared with the experimental values. The results showed that: the calculated value is in good agreement with the experimental values. this model can provides an important reference for anchor design.

Six reinforced concrete beams, including 4 beams strengthened with BFRP sheets at different layer of BFRP sheets and 2 control beams, are tested to investigate the effect of layer of BFRP sheets on the ultimate flexural resistance and load-deflection response of the pre-damaged concrete beams strengthened with BFRP sheets. Results show that the flexural resistance of pre-damaged concrete beams increases along with the BFRP sheets layer increasing,but the flexural resistance enhances the degree not to assume the linear relations to the enforcement layer.Numerical simulation of the pre-damaged concrete beams strengthened with BFRP sheets is conducted by ANSYS, and the results of numerical simulation are compared with those of the test results. It turns out that the results of numerical simulation are in good agreement with the test results.

With the trend towards offshore LNG production and offloading, sloshing of LNG in partially filled tanks has become an important research subject for the offshore industry. LNG sloshing can induce impact pressures on the containment system and can affect the motions of the LNG carrier. So far, LNG sloshing was mainly studied using model tests with an oscillation tank. However, the development of Navier-Stokes solvers with a detailed handling of the free surface, nowadays allows the numerical simulation of sloshing. It should be investigated, however, how accurate the results of this type of simulations are for this complex flow problem. The present paper first presents the details of a numerical model, an improved Volume OF Fluid (iVOF) method. Comparisons are made with sloshing model test results. Based on the results, the following conclusions can be drawn: - The dynamics of sloshing in LNG tanks can be simulated numerically using an iVOF Navier-Stokes solver. - Several improvements have been made in the treatment of numerical spikes in the pressure signals, but still more improvements need to be made. - Qualitatively, the pressure pulses resulting from impacts against the LNG tank wall show a rather good agreement between experiment and numerical simulation. - Quantitatively, the differences with the experiment show that further detailed studies with respect to cell sizes and time steps are necessary.

With the increasing of embankment culvert engineering applications, there has been due in part to the structural design is too conservative and not economic or select unreasonable structural form, leading to the phenomenon of cracking or even collapse of the culvert structure, and the phenomenon has seriously affected the normal use of the highway. In this paper, the numerical simulation of vertical earth pressure distribution on different structural forms of embankment on culverts, to discuss the impact of boundary conditions, fill height, the thickness of the culvert culverts vertical earth pressure. Combined with Heda highway a culvert covert field test results and numerical simulation results were compared and analyzed. The results show that the numerical simulation and field test results in good agreement with the culvert structure in the form of vertical earth pressure of the embankment culverts have a greater impact; the structure of different forms of the culvert in the upper soil pressure is significantly different. In addition, analysis of the impact of boundary conditions, filling height of culvert vertical earth pressure values. The results can reference for the study of the structural design of the embankment culverts security.

Aircraft jet engine should be designed to keep the required performance against for the event of foreign object ingestion, such as bird-strike. For the purpose to realize highly efficient and more advanced design of fan blade of jet engine, a numerical simulation technique for bird-strike problem has developed. Good agreement was obtained between simulation results and the soft body impact tests described in this paper. It was also shown that bird-strike problem has to be recognized as a fluid-structure interaction problem, because the impacted bird behaves like fluid and the impact force is highly influenced by the deformation of fan blade.

Based on the design of the large-scale shaking table test of an underground pipeline under three dimension seismic excitation, the dynamic response of the soil-structure is analyzed by using ANSYS. In the numerical simulation, Drucker-Prager constitutive model is adopted to simulate the soil, the interface between soil and pipeline are simulated with zero thickness contact elements, size effects of test box are diminished by defining viscoelastic boundary around soil, the acceleration time history curve of the original earthquake wave is compressed and processed according to using the model scale similarity and energy duration which is presented by Trifunac-Brady [1] , and then the characteristic of seismic response of the pipeline can be found. The results show that the top of pipeline is the seismic response intense regional, deformation displacements of the central areas at the bottom and top of pipeline are always larger than others, the entrance and exit are the weak positions of anti-seismic structure; moreover, the dynamic response and interactions of soil-pipeline in the model experiment can be more accurately simulated by the methods presented in the paper. Thus, it can be served as reference for the design and construction of subsurface structures.

Determining blast loadings on an explosion containment vessel (ECV) is the foundation to design the ECV. Explosion of TNT centrally located in a thick-walled cylindrical vessel and its impact on the cylinder was simulated using the explicit finite element code LS-DYNA. Blast loadings on the cylinder computed are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental results. Then wall thickness and yield stress of the cylinder were changed in the following simulation to investigate effect of shell deformation on blast loadings. It is revealed that shell deformation during the primary pulses of blast loadings is so slight that it has little influence on the blast loadings. Though the deformation may increase greatly after the primary pulses, the dynamic response of an ECV is mainly affected by the primary pulses. Therefore, decoupled analyses are appropriate, in which the shell of an ECV is treated as a rigid wall when determining blast loadings on it.
