Iron Recovery by Two-Stage Roasting the Gold-Bearing Pyrite Concentrate and Gold-Leaching from the Pyrite Cinder by Thiourea

Pyrite cinders, which are the waste products of sulphuric acid manufacturing plants, contain hazardous but valuable heavy metals. This passage introduced that iron recovery by two-stage roasting the pyrite concentrate and gold-leaching from the pyrite cinder by thiourea. After re-floating and two-stage roasting of the gold-bearing low-grade pyrite concentrate, the final cinder contains about 0.056% As and 61% Fe and high grade gold and silver. The thiourea gold-leaching experiment for the pyrite cinder shows the gold-leaching rate is up to 90.4% in the case of grinding fineness of 60%-0.074mm, pH = 1~2, R=1:2, thiourea dosage of 10g / L, ferric sulfate dosage of 3g / L, leaching time of 6h.

The ore assays 2.5g/t Au, 23.4% S and 56.6% Fe. This research enriched the gold by flotation, and recovered it by a chemical process. The obtained flotation concentrate contains 66.35%g/t gold and 37.06% S with recovery 96.14% and 96.42% respectively. A roasting process was conducted at 900-1000°C for 5.5hrs, followed by cyanide leaching of the residue. The gold leaching rate reaches 87.4% with an adsorption rate of 97.6%. Furthermore, the regrinding of the concentrate to 95% -0.18μm was conducted, and followed by cyanide leaching at pH11.5 for 12hrs. The results show the amount leached gold reaches 92.5% with an adsorption rate of 99.21%, which increases by 1.61% and 5.1% in comparison with the roasting-leaching process.

The mineral processing experimental research was carried out on the hematite bearing characteristics of low grade, fine grain,complex composition. The results showed that using the technological flowsheet of “stage grinding- low intensity magnetic separation”, the iron concentrate with recovery of 36.56% and grade of 65.85% Fe can be obtained. And the iron concentrate with recovery of 17.23% and grade of 63.53% Fe can be obtained by “stage grinding-HIMS process-reverse flotation” process. The final iron concentrate with TFe grade of 65.10%,yield of 19.19% and total iron recovery of 53.79% from the raw ores with TFe grade of 23.41% was obtained, with the first stage grinding size being 55% -0.074mm and the second stage,93% -0.074mm.

AbstractIrradiated roast treatment and the ammonia leaching processing were conducted to deal with the low-grade oxide zinc ores. The ZnCO3phase was hard to be attended, which was the reason for the low leaching rate of the complicated zinc ores. The mineral phase transformation of the ZnCO3phase was generated after the ores irradiated in the microwave at the temperature of 673 K. The irradiated ores generated more small particles, it was the reason that the leaching rate of the complicated zinc ores was increased. When the leaching processing of the irradiated roasted ores was conducted under the conditions of the total ammonia concentration of 6 mol/L, the liquid to solid phase ratio of 11:1, the leaching temperature of 298 K, the leaching time of 150 min and the stirring speed of 400 rpm, 88.3 % of zinc could be achieved, which was the maximum leaching rate of the irradiated ores.

Gold-bearing quartz veins of the Umm Rus area occur at the south-eastern contact of a Precambrian granodiorite cupola within younger gabbros of 573-615 Ma belonging to the Pan African orogenic belt. The rocks are intruded within low-grade metasediments. At such contact, a hybrid zone is developed characterized by the occurrence of quartz diorite which grades into diorite and meta-ferrogabro. A limited number of mineralized quartz veins cut the granodiorite-gabbro complex. Different alteration zones are developed in the vicinity of the quartz veins. The quartz veins have two main trends; NS and N30 E, the latter one is usaually gold-bearing. The mineralized parts of the veins commonly consist of highly sheared and banded smoky quartz, and the gold content depends on the relation with the dykes. The element is strongly correlated with As and Ag, but moderately with Cu. Near to intermediate and basic dykes, the contents of Au, Ag and As are noticably increased

The effects of several variables on the column bioleaching of copper sulphide ore have been investigated. The copper ore contained chalcopyrite as the main sulfide minerals and bornite and chalcocite as the minor minerals. The experiment was carried out using bench-scale column leach reactors designed in Key Lab of Biometallurgy of Ministry of Education, which were inoculated with the pure mesophile bacteria (Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans) and thermophile bacteria (Sulfobacillus), respectively, and the mixed bacteria which contain both iron- and sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. The results show that the mixed cultures were more efficient than the pure cultures alone and the maximum copper recovery 53.64% was achieved using the mixed cultures after 85 days. The leaching rate of chalcopyrite tended to increase with the increased dissolved ferric iron concentration. The effect of particle size on the rate of the copper leaching was also investigated, and it was shown that the copper bioleaching rate decreases as the amount of fines increase, which limits the permeability, thus decreases leaching rate. Jarosite and elemental sulphur formed in the column were characterized by the X-ray and EDS.
