A discrete model with rigid blocks and elastic-plastic interfaces is adopted for studying the collapse behavior of in-plane loaded masonry panels with random texture. An existing random discrete model, originally developed in the elastic field, is here extended to the field of material nonlinearity by adopting a Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion for restraining actions at joint level. The resulting model turns out to be simple and effective in determining collapse loads and mechanisms of rectangular masonry panels, also accounting for a further perturbation parameter able to vary the height of each course of blocks into the masonry panel. The collapse loads turn out to be slightly smaller than those typical of regular assemblages, whereas mechanisms turn out to be influenced by local arrangement and size of blocks.

Abstract Vehicles, such as an agricultural tractor, construction vehicle, mobile machinery, and 4-wheel drive vehicle, are often operated on unpaved ground. In many cases, the ground is deformable; therefore, the deformation should be taken into consideration in order to assess the off-the-road performance of a tire. Recent progress in computational mechanics enabled us to simulate the large scale coupling problem, in which the deformation of tire structure and of surrounding medium can be interactively considered. Using this technology, hydroplaning phenomena and tire traction on snow have been predicted. In this paper, the simulation methodology of tire/soil coupling problems is developed for pneumatic tires of arbitrary tread patterns. The Finite Element Method (FEM) and the Finite Volume Method (FVM) are used for structural and for soil-flow analysis, respectively. The soil is modeled as an elastoplastic material with a specified yield criterion and a nonlinear elasticity. The material constants are referred to measurement data, so that the cone penetration resistance and the shear resistance are represented. Finally, the traction force of the tire in a cultivated field is predicted, and a good correlation with experiments is obtained.

The paper presents the results of research on the study of the elastic deformation of a flexible wheel from a double harmonic transmission, under the action of a cam wave generator. Knowing exactly how the flexible wheel is deformed is important in correctly establishing the geometric parameters of the wheels teeth, allowing a better understanding and appreciation of the specific conditions of harmonic gearings in the two stages of the transmission. The veracity of the results of this theoretical study on the calculation of elastic deformations and displacements of points located on the average fiber of the flexible wheel was subsequently verified and confirmed by numerical simulation of the flexible wheel, in the elastic field, using the finite element method from SolidWorks Simulation.

Although the teacher-student relationship has been addressed in some studies, the cooperation or reciprocal relations between teachers and students have not been explored sufficiently. In this paper, a difference equation model is applied to express the relationship, stability analysis at the positive steady state of the discrete model is done to verify that the performance output is not empty, and hypothesis testing is conducted to show the validity of the model by means of sample data from a college. Then some reasonable suggestions are proposed to improve the performance output of teachers and students.
