Zirconia (ZrO2) powders doped with cobalt were prepared by sol-gel method using inorganic salt of zirconium (IV) chloride (ZrCl4) as precursor. The amount of cobalt was varied in the range of 4–16% weight percent to study the effect to structural properties. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis suggested the resulting phases were zirconium oxide (Baddeleyite) with monoclinic crystal system along with cobalt oxide as secondary phase. The increasing cobalt content caused the XRD peaks to shift into lower angle due to substitution of Zr atom to smaller Co atom in crystal lattice. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images showed the samples with higher Co content had smoother surface. Generally, the microstructures of Co doped zirconia powders consisted of large agglomerates with small particles on the surface.

Mn, Fe doped ZnO powders (Zn0.95-xMnxFe0.05O2, x≤0.05) were synthesized by an ameliorated sol-gel method, using Zn(CH3COO)2, Mn(CH3COO)2and FeCl2as the raw materials, with the addition of vitamin C as a kind of chemical reducer. The resulting powder was subsequently compacted under pressure of 10 MPa at the temperature of 873K in vacuum. The crystal structure and magnetic properties of Zn0.95-xMnxFe0.05O2powder and bulk samples have been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to study chemical valence of manganese, iron and zinc in the samples. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that Zn0.95-xMnxFe0.05O (x≤0.05) samples were single phase with the ZnO-like wurtzite structure. No secondary phase was found in the XRD spectrum. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that Fe and Mn existed in Zn0.95-xMnxFe0.05O2samples in Fe2+and Mn2+states. The results of VSM experiment proved the room temperature ferromagnetic properties (RTFP) of Mn, Fe co-doped ZnO samples.

Abstract This study deals with the synthesis of some physical properties of (CdO/NiO) nanocomposite via Sol-Gel method and their antibacterial activities. The NiO and CdO nanoxides as well as the CdO/NiO oxide mixture were prepared in five samples with different concentrations where the ratio of CdO/NiO was [(1: 0), (3: 1), (1: 1), (1: 3), (0: 1)], by using the gel solution by means of a polyvinyl alcohol solution ( PVA ). The samples were platelimb at (500̊C) for three hours. The structural properties of the prepared oxides resulting from the cracking process were studied. The XRD results showed the presence of pure cadmium oxide diffraction patterns in the sample (S 1 ) as well as pure nickel oxide in the sample (S 5 ), and confirmed the presence of the CdO / NiO oxide mixture in the samples (S 2 , S 3 , S 4 ). The results of XRD also showed, through calculations, that the specific surface area increased with increasing granular size and decreased with decreasing granular size. XRD calculations also showed that the intensity of eruptions decreased as the granular volume increased and, inversely, increased with decreasing granular size.

NanosizedTiO2powder was synthesized via sol-gel method using titanium tetraisopoxide (TPT) as the precursor. Mol ratios of water to TPT were varied from 1 (Powder A), 2 (Powder B), 3 (Powder C), and 4 (Powder D) to evaluate effect of hydrolysis degree. TG/DTA curves showed that amorphous phase turned to anatase crystal structure at ca. 415, 337, 310, and339∘C for Powders A, B, C, and D, respectively. XRD analysis showed that all the synthesizedTiO2powders were 100% in anatase form with Powders B and C showing considerably higher crystallinities. The powders obtained at lower water to TPT mol ratios were spherical in shape and they became bar-like shapes higher mol ratios. The lower hydrolysis degree led to higher surface area of the Powder A (24.8 m2/g) compared to Powder B (14.6 m2/g). From phenol photocatalytic measurement, Powder B was the most efficient attributed to its higher crystallinity.

CuO interlayers in the CuO/p-Si Schottky diodes were fabricated by using CBD and sol-gel methods. Deposited CuO layers were characterized by SEM and XRD techniques. From the SEM images, it was seen that the film grown by CBD method is denser than the film grown by sol-gel method. This result is compatible with XRD results which show that the crystallization in CBD method is higher than it is in sol-gel method. For the electrical investigations, current-voltage characteristics of the diodes have been studied at room temperature. ConventionalI-Vand Norde’s methods were used in order to determine the ideality factor, barrier height, and series resistance values. It was seen that the morphological and structural analysis are compatible with the results of electrical investigations.
