Melasma is a common disfiguring condition involving acquired hyperpigmentation especially on the face, for which the pathogenesis is still uncertain, however histopathological studies showed that there is not only hyperpigmentation in the epidermis, but also solar elastosis or photo-aging due to abnormality of dermal extracellular matrix which contributes to clinical wrinkles. This study aimed to examine a link between the severity of melasma and facial wrinkles as a manifestation of photoaging in a tropical area. This study was an observational study with crosssectional design, conducted in Yogyakarta, Indonesia involving 51 patients with melasma aged 30-50 years who had fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The melasma severity was measured clinically with the modified Melasma Severity Index (mMASI), and objectively with the Melanin Index (MI) and Erythema Index (EI) assessed with Mexameter Courage Khazaka. The wrinkle severity was measured clinically by scoring from forehead horizontal lines, crow’s feet, glabellar and nasolabial lines, and total scores were obtained from all of them. The correlation analysis was done statistically with Spearman’s rank tests. The results showed a weak positive but not significant correlation between the mMASI score and total facial wrinkle score (r: 0.165), and a weak positive non-significant correlation between EI and total facial wrinkle score (r: 0.06). There were significant positive moderate correlations between MI and total facial wrinkle score (r: 0.441), due to significant positive moderate correlations between MI and glabella wrinkle (r: 0.392), and between MI and nasolabial wrinkle (r: 0.339). In conclusion, a positive moderate correlation was found between MI and total facial wrinkle score, especially relating to glabellar and nasolabial wrinkles. However, there was no correlation between mMASI score and total facial wrinkle score.

Background: Soymilk fermented by lactobacilli and/or bifidobacteria is attracting attention due to the excellent bioavailability of its isoflavones. We investigated the effects of fermented soymilk containing high amounts of isoflavone aglycones on facial wrinkles and urinary isoflavones in postmenopausal women in a randomized, parallel-group, open-label trial. Healthy Japanese women were randomly divided into active (n = 44, mean age 56.3 ± 0.5) or control (n = 44, mean age 56.1 ± 0.5) groups, who consumed or did not consume a bottle of soymilk fermented by Bifidobacterium breve strain Yakult and Lactobacillus mali for 8 weeks. Maximum depth of wrinkles around the crow’s feet area and other wrinkle parameters were evaluated as primary and secondary endpoints respectively at weeks 0, 4, and 8 during the consumption period. Urinary isoflavone levels were determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results: The active group demonstrated significant improvements in the maximum depth (p=0.015) and average depth (p=0.04) of wrinkles, and significantly elevated urinary isoflavones (daidzein, genistein, and glycitein; each p < 0.001) compared with the control during the consumption period. No serious adverse effects were recorded.Conclusion: These findings suggest that fermented soymilk taken daily may improve facial wrinkles and elevate urinary isoflavones in healthy postmenopausal women.Key words: postmenopausal women; isoflavone; fermented soymilk; phytoestrogen; facial wrinkle

Interest in computational thinking (CT) in the scientific community has increased significantly in the last 4 years, as evidenced by the numerous systematic reviews carried out. However, there is a lack of reviews that update the emerging conceptualization of CT and which also examine the roles of the school curriculum and teachers in the face of CT. A systematic literature review (SLR) consists of a collection of research conducted according to previous criteria with the aim of answering research questions with validity and quality. For this reason, the PRISMA-ScR statement was followed. Articles published in scientific journals, from Scopus and WoS, between January 2018 and August 2021 were included, in the English or Spanish language. The initial search resulted in 492 articles, to which the inclusion-exclusion criteria were applied. The final sample of texts for the present systematic review was n = 145. The texts were analyzed from three perspectives: conceptual, documentary and pedagogical. Thus, a renewal of previous literature reviews was carried out, updating the situation with research from recent years and new data, obtained to contribute to the collective intelligence on methodological strategies (80% of the sample was divided into “plugged” and “unplugged”); educational (more than 50% studied CT evaluation); and resources, including a collection of more than 119 educational resources.

Over the past two and a half decades, techniques for midfacial rejuvenation have evolved. Midfacial rejuvenation has gained significant popularity among many aesthetic surgeons, including the ophthalmic plastic surgeon. Yet rejuvenation of the midface remains a challenge for the aesthetic surgeon who seeks facial harmony. A variety of techniques and approaches are available, yet no single approach is ideal for all patients. It is clear that the age-related anatomic alterations that cause patients to seek rejuvenation vary from patient to patient, and that many patients have more than one anatomic alteration that must be addressed to rejuvenate the lower lid. The surgeon must address the individual needs of each patient for optimal results. It has also become clear that the lower eyelid and midface form a continuum that needs to be addressed in its entirety for optimal rejuvenation. To achieve this, the surgeon must understand the basic concepts important to lower eyelid and midface rejuvenation, which include an understanding of eyelid and midfacial anatomy, an understanding of aging changes of the lower eyelid and midface, and surgical approaches and nonincisional options. A full understanding of aging changes in the lower eyelid and midface is essential to successfully address midfacial rejuvenation. A harmonious facial appearance consists of a balanced relationship among all tissues of the face. With age, disturbance of this harmony among midfacial tissues occurs. The aging process of the midface encompasses the lower eyelid, malar fat pad and associated structures, melolabial fold, and lateral perioral region. Hester describes four important features of midfacial aging: (1) baring of the inferior orbital rim with creation of a hollow valley at the junction of the lower eyelid and cheek; (2) descent of the malar fat pad, with loss of malar prominence; (3) deepening of the tear trough; and (4) exaggeration of the nasolabial fold. The midface represents a crucial aesthetic unit of the face. It is bordered by structures that play major roles in the overall appearances of the face. The lower eyelid and tear trough toward the nose and the lateral canthus and crow’s feet at the superior lateral aspect frame the midface superiorly.

Abstract Background Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a key contributor to skin moisture (hydration), and MicroBotox demonstrates improvements for fine wrinkles of the face. Objectives The author sought to evaluate the safety and efficacy of intradermal injection of hydrotoxin (combined mixture of MicroHA and MicroBotox) for the treatment of skin roughness and dryness on facial dermis. Methods Fifty women who had thin, dry skin with fine wrinkles throughout the whole face, especially in the crow’s feet and forehead areas, were enrolled in the study. Two cc stabilized-HA filler and 1 cc (40 U) of botulinumtoxinA were mixed in the novel combined hydrotoxin mixture. Intended to hydrate the dermis and treat fine wrinkles of the face, the mixture was injected into the real dermal layer of the face. The volume of HA per site was 0.002 cc and toxin was 0.04 U. Skin roughness and stratum corneum hydration were measured at 1, 2, 3, and 6 months. Results One month post-treatment, skin roughness was reduced to 50.19% in topographic computer analysis utilizing 10× dermascope photos. Stratum corneum hydration on crow’s feet improved to 81.34% at 1 month and 56.12% at 2 months from pre-treatment baseline (P &lt; 0.0001). Global Aesthetic improvement scale of Skin hydration and fine wrinkle improved. Conclusions The combination injection method of MicroHA and MicroBotox is not associated with side effects and showed significant synergic effect in improvement of skin roughness and moisturizing. Neuramix-hydrotoxin injection method is an easy and reproducible procedure to make constant injection depth and amount. Level of Evidence: 4

Facial wrinkles (considered to be natural features) appear as people get older. Wrinkle detection is an important aspect of applications that depend on facial skin changes, such as face age estimation and soft biometrics. While existing wrinkle detection algorithms focus on forehead horizontal lines, it is necessary to develop new methods to detect all wrinkles (vertical and horizontal) on whole face. Therefore, we evaluated the performance of wrinkle detection algorithms on the whole face and proposed an enhancement technique to improve the performance. More specifically, we used 45 images of the Face Recognition Technology dataset (FERET) and 25 images of the Sudanese dataset. For ground truth annotations, the selected images were manually annotated by the researcher. The experiments showed that the method with enhancement performed better at detecting facial wrinkles when compared to the state-of-the-art methods. When evaluated on FERET, the average Jaccard similarity indices were 56.17%, 31.69% and 15.87% for the enhancement method, Hybrid Hessian Filter and Gabor Filter, respectively.

Anxienty facing labor primigravida’s. The aims of study was to determine the differences of primigravida’s anxiety in facing labor after given counseling by watching normal labor process video in Independent Practice Midwife Bengkulu City in 2013. This research method was a type of analytical study design with Quasi experiments with pre-test and post-test approach. The sample consisted of group counseling and group watched a video that was 60 with a ratio of 1:1 corresponding inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate and multivariate. The results showed no difference in anxiety in the face of labor primigravida after counseled by watching videos of normal deliveries (p= 0.000). Multivariate results show that education affects the level of anxiety after watching the video and counseling on the normal birth process primigravida (p= 0.009).

Introduction: Melasma is one of the most common skin pigmentation disorders, which mostly affects the facial skin and has a considerable psychological impact on the patients. Melasma management has been one of the controversial issues in dermatology. We aimed to compare the combined treatment of the Er: YAG (erbium: yttrium–aluminum–garnet) laser plus hydroquinone (HQ) 4% with HQ 4% alone in the treatment of melasma. Methods: Twenty-nine patients were treated with the combined Er: YAG laser and HQ 4% on one side of the face with HQ 4% alone on the other side. Three sessions of the laser rat 4-week intervals. The outcome was calculated using the Melasma Area Severity Index (MASI). Results: The side that received the combined treatment (laser + HQ 4%) showed a statistically significant reduction in MASI compared to the side treated with HQ 4% alone. Conclusion: Our study suggests the superiority of the combination of the Er: YAG laser and HQ 4% in the treatment of melasma compared to HQ 4% alone.

Background: Seborrhoeic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic papulosquamous inflammatory disease which resistant to medical treatment. Various treatment such as topical corticosteroid, antifungal and calcineurin inhibitor has been widely practiced and gives varying results Objective: Our objective was to compare the efficacy of Sebclaira® and topical hydrocortisone 2,5% for management of moderate SD on the face Methods: A randomised clinical trial, controlled, double blind study was performed for four weeks. We assessed the efficacy and side effects of these topical treatment. The severity of SD was evaluated using Seborrhea Area Severity Index-Facial (SASI-F) score. The severity of pruritus was evaluated using Visual Analogue Scale. Demographic characteristics, baseline SASI-F and VAS were recorded in the medical record. Results: A 34 patients (14 males, 20 females) with moderate SD on the face completed the four weeks study. The mean of SASI T2 and VAS score of the Sebclaira® group was significantly lower than Hydrocortisone 2.5% group with p = 0.000 and p = 0.000 respectively. Tolerance between Sebclaira® and Hydrocortisone 2.5% showed insignificant results (p = 1.000) Conclusions: The longer application of Sebclaira® was significantly more effective to improve moderate SD

<div>We used a dataset of nocturnal PSG recordings, collected as part of the Healthbed study, which main aim was development of technologies for sleep analyses. The dataset includes one clinical video-PSG recording for each subject, made according to the AASM recommendations in Sleep Medicine Center Kempenhaeghe Heeze, the Netherlands. The study included 96 (60 females) healthy subjects, with an age between 18 and 64. The exclusion criteria were: 1) any diagnosed sleep disorder, 2) a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index >= 6, or Insomnia Severity Index > 7, 3) indication of depression or anxiety disorder measured with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (score > 8), 4) pregnancy, shift work, use of any medication except for birth control medicine, and 5) presence of clinically relevant neurological or psychiatric disorders or other somatic disorders that could influence sleep.</div>
