Business intelligence (BI) has become a popular among management executives of different industries. Many publications have mentioned Big Data and how to use data intelligently. However, little is known about how to successfully implement BI in the healthcare industry. The unique characteristic of this business, which focuses only on quality of care and patient safety, has a big impact on decision-making. This research is based on a literature review and empirical evidence collected from interviews with professionals involved in the healthcare industry. Twenty-four hospital executives and Information Technology staff who have direct or indirect experience with BI were interviewed. It investigates critical success factors for BI implementation in hospitals and provides insight into the healthcare industry in Thailand. The concept of grounded theory was applied for content analysis. Insights from this research contribute to academia and the healthcare industry by providing first-time evidence of specific factors for BI implementation and guidelines in hospitals.

Recently, the use of information technology has become important and critical, for organizations, as it enhance the quality of products and integrity of organizational services. However, the implementation of such systems is still problematic. Due to globalization and the variation in the monetary, social and technological environments, Information Systems (IS) have turned out to be an imperative feature and high priority for different kind of organizations. In this regard, critical success factors play a vital role in successful implementation of IS. This paper evaluates and analyzes the critical success factors (CSFs) of IS implementation from the Saudi managers’ perspective in different industries in Saudi Arabia. This study will also present the illustration or identification of 19 critical success factors, which are based on a review of literatures and the first phase of a study in Saudi industries. The study will also rank those 19 factors in a logical way and will characterize them into three categories of factors, including organisational, human and technological factors.

In the ‘industry 4.0’ era, the phenomenon of digitalization of smart cities has gained increasing prominence, as it has the potential to address the problem of resource optimization and the pressure of demand of the growing urban population. In the past, smart city initiatives may not have created desired impacts as these initiatives were limited in scope, focusing on physical digital integration of the underlying systems of cities and of their citizens. This article examines the success factors that affect the digitalization of smart cities based on secondary research. To achieve smart cities’ core objectives of increasing quality of living, providing efficient and optimal services, thereby making the functioning of the city smart through digitalization, it is essential to look at these critical success factors, namely, sustainability, ecosystems and digital citizen. The article points out important elements such as lack of governance of sustainability, methods and processes to enhance participation of digital citizens and inadequate knowledge about structures and value creation through ecosystems that would need to be addressed while digitalizing smart cities. Given the required policy attention and focus, these factors would be expected to make smart cities sustainable, improve the quality of life of citizens and create new economic opportunities, while digitalizing them.

Background: TQM has gained extensive prominence over the last few decades and continue to play a significant role in modern healthcare delivery. Objectives: The objective of this empirical inquiry is to explore the nexus between TQM critical success factors implementation and hospital performance by soliciting employee and patient’s views within the Ghanaian context, focusing on Greater Accra Regional Hospital, a prime provider of secondary public healthcare in Ghana. Methods: A cross-sectional approach (research design) was espoused for the study which made use of quantitative research techniques for its analysis. The study was based on self-answering structured (close-end) questionnaires completed by 250 respondents selected via convenient sampling. SPSS 25.0 was utilised for data analysis. Statistical analyses include descriptive statistics, principal component analyses, exploratory factor analyses with varimax rotation, reliability analyses, and multivariate regression analyses. Results: The study found significant positive relationships between all nine TQM constructs and hospital performance. Findings further revealed that the top management leadership construct contributed most to hospital performance, while training contributed least. Conclusion: The study made recommendations that have practical implications for hospital administrators/managers. In this circumstance, findings/recommendations established, should be considered crucial for hospital administrators/managers and policy makers when dealing with decisions affecting TQM assessment by exploring the potential practicability of the nine TQM critical success factors utilised in this study as a pertinent contrivance for initiating continuous service improvement in GARH in particular and Ghana’s public healthcare sector in general.

This chapter presents results from a large-scale survey of Australian CPA members regarding data quality. The research investigates and reports major stakeholders’ opinions on the importance of critical success factors affecting data quality and the actual performance on each of those factors. The results reveal whether dissimilarly sized organizations differ in the way they measure the importance and performance of critical success factors for data quality in accounting information systems.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present coaching opportunities and applications in the workplace as well as to point out that organizations that want to leverage the benefits of coaching must be mature enough to have certain processes and practices in place. A further purpose of this paper is to gain some insight regarding several critical success factors are not well understood by organizations and to identify possible areas for improvement for them. Design/methodology/approach – The authors first presents the environment in which coaching was developed, from which disciplines was it affected, and how it was shaped into its current form. Then the authors focus on coaching used as a business development tool and critical factors that play an important role in the effectiveness of coaching from the organizations’ side are presented. The paper ends with some qualitative conclusions. Findings – The value that organizations realize form coaching is proportional to the quality of coaching delivered. Organizations that invest in quality coaches, have, themselves, a clear understanding of what coaching really is and actively support coaching initiatives at every aspect of coaching’s procedure, can reap the greatest benefits from it. Originality/value – Several studies have been conducted to determine the organization-dependent factors that affect coaching and the quality of the result. However, do date it has not been highlighted that organizations that want to leverage the benefits of coaching must be mature enough to have certain processes and practices in place. Furthermore, possible areas for improvement for companies are identified regarding several critical success factors that are not well understood by them.

This review explores critical success factors of Six Sigma implementation in hospitals and identifies the benefits. Data sources and Methodology: Prior studies on Six Sigma (SS) totaling 100 were selected from more than 100 journals. These studies came from numerous databases and are classified based on the year of publication. Journal names with corresponding number of papers selected are reported. The review reveals 25 critical success factors (CSF) necessary in the implementation of Six Sigma, encompassing numerous aspects of an organization such as managerial, statistical, and technical aspects. Twenty benefits derived from SS’s implementation are identified, including various improvements in terms of the organizations’ processes, financial performance, and quality of service. The success of Six Sigma implementation depends on several critical factors, some of which are best considered before its introduction, while others must be addressed during the process itself. Other factors are external and should be considered during and after its implementation. Not all Six Sigma initiatives are successful nor result in great benefits. Therefore, organizations must analyze their need for Six Sigma projects and base their decisions on the availability/presence of the CSF. Organizations, including hospitals, can gain numerous benefits from Six Sigma implementation but must first evaluate Six Sigma’s introduction and implementation against their abilities to achieve desired outcomes.

This paper attemts to ilustrate how the managers and the staff of a 5 star hotel in Kosovo define quality. Furthermore, it explores the number of critical success factors related to TQM culture and how they are applied in the hotel operations. Different theories related to the quality in the field of service provision, more particular in hospitality or hotel sector and the introduction of the TQM culture in the same sector. A conceptual framework based on existing theories and literature is developed which is than confirms through the research findings and analysis. The findings suggest that most features associated with TQM, like critical success factors assessed throughout the research (leadership, customer focus, and training, communication, teams and staff empowerment) can produce an advantage for the 5 star hotel operations that will affect the quality of service. Furthermore, it confirms that some of the TQM aspects are applied and can be applied in 5 star hotel operations in Kosovo. The issue is whether these aspects are understood as TQM principles and whether their added value is embraced in the day-to-day running of the hotel. The outcomes imply that, indeed, the TQM culture is present in the The Hotel, a 5 star hotel in Kosovo. Some of the critical success factors are directly linked to TQM and some less and it also provides suggestions for improvement where needed, especially related to specific tools that are integral parts of the TQM culture.
