Roadbed thermal conditions in permafrost are subject to seasonal changes affecting roadway resilience. A roadbed thawing depth is important for road base processing, especially in permafrost. This research had the purpose of evaluation of a permissible roadbed thawing depth based on the Biot number reflecting general thermal resistance of roadbed layers. These results will contribute to understanding road bed thermal resistance and selection of roadway construction materials.

Although the benchmarking technique has been widely used in various aspects of organizations and businesses, there is no clear framework on how the technique can be applied for Web evaluation. This article presents a framework for measuring the usability and content usefulness of Web sites by using the benchmarking approach. It describes the purpose of evaluation, metrics to be used and processes through which Web benchmarking can be performed. Several methods were used in the development of the framework, which include content analysis of literature and expert review. A total of 46 criteria were identified to be used as the benchmarking metrics. The framework was tested for its applicability by evaluating four political Web sites in Malaysia. The results proved that the framework is easy to follow and implement, and would be particularly useful for those who intend to benchmark the overall usability and content usefulness of Web sites against competitors.

Abstract Train sideswipe accidents happen when two trains are traveling next to each other in the same or opposite directions and their sides come into contact. In most cases the relative velocity between the trains is very low. In these accidents, standing passengers might lose their balance, fall and impact with objects in their surroundings. Also, in extreme cases seated passenger might be ejected from their seat and get injured by impacting hard objects like handles and edges. These falls are caused by the acceleration and jerk exerted on the passengers during the impact. The train Event Data Recorder (EDR) does not record the train’s acceleration during the collision, as common in vehicle’s EDR, but provides only velocity information that is sampled in very low rate. To determine acceleration and jerk, train’s velocity is extracted from the train Event Data Recorder (EDR) and is used to estimate their value in order for the purpose of evaluation of the severity of the accident. The analysis of actual data extracted from an EDR of a train, that was that was involved in sideswipe accident is presented and compared to current standards. The results indicate that a standing person in case might lose his balance and fall. This results was verified since the two conductors who were walking along the isle lost their balance, fell and were injured feel and injure.

52 registered nurses were asked about their preferences toward performance appraisal in terms of (a) the method used, (b) by whom they wanted to be rated, and (c) for what reasons they would want to be rated. Nurses preferred quantitative scales which rely on external work-related criteria over ratings directly comparing them to others and ratings without scales. They preferred ratings made by peers, self, and supervisors over ratings made by subordinates. Finally, they preferred that ratings be conducted for promotion and compensation purposes over ratings for shift and working assignments and layoff and retirement decisions.

The primary objective of presented research represents a specific partial part of complex research of competitiveness aiming at terminology applied to presentation of strategic plans of companies. The purpose of evaluation was both evaluation of applicability of terminology, defined in the theoretical level in the context of company practice, and in - wider context - search for links among used approach of presentation, terminology and factual behavior of companies. The results shows that terminologies defined on the basis of the analysis of three concepts of development of competitiveness share common features. The approach of presentation is still being developed, as indicated in evaluated firms. The manner, used by analyzed car producers is rather significant element of its competitive behavior and, in certain range, such manner must reflect the approach to strategic development of competitiveness.
