Abstract This paper reports on a study which examined the notions of authenticity and citizenship for people living with cognitive impairment or dementia in a care home in the North-East of England. We demonstrated that both notions were present and were encouraged by engagement with an artist, where this involved audio and visual recordings and the creation of a film. The artist's interactions were observed by a non-participant observer using ethnographic techniques, including interviews with the residents, their families and the staff of the care home. The data were analysed using grounded theory and the constant comparative method of qualitative analysis. Our findings suggest that participatory art might help to maintain and encourage authenticity and citizenship in people living with dementia in a care home. Certainly, authenticity and citizenship are notions worth pursuing in the context of dementia generally, but especially in care homes.

This study explored the process of social reintegration of 10 persons with traumatic brain impairment. A series of in-depth interviews over a period of 12 months were conducted with all participants. Data were analyzed using procedures utilized by grounded theory and ethnographic researchers; and, resulted in a typology that described different aspects of social reintegration into community life. Implications for rehabilitation counselors and researchers are discussed.

This article examines the role of the WTO in addressing trade and environment issues and considers how NGO and industry activities could complement this role. I interviewed over seventy experts and analyzed the responses using a grounded theory methodology, and present the findings within the context of existing literature on trade and environment issues. This approach allowed for an interdisciplinary and qualitative analysis of the underlying factors that have contributed to past successes and challenges in dealing with environmental issues within the WTO, as well as assessing current opportunities for progress and identifying misperceptions that could foster increased expectations of what the WTO is able to achieve. I conclude that the role the WTO plays in addressing trade and environment issues will be tested by the outcomes from the Doha round of negotiations, and by the willingness of WTO members to examine past work and identify a way forward. Survey results suggest that increased consideration of NGO perspectives and industry strategies would provide insight into ways of moving forward that are not hindered by political constraints.

The text presents a reconstruction of the experience of autism by blogging self-advocates. The starting point is the concept of autobiographical self-learning. The study included a qualitative analysis of the content of open blogs on the Internet, whose authors are people who declare themselves to be autistic. The analysis was conducted on the basis of the grounded theory. MAXQDA software was used.
