The current concepts for the functional unit of mammalian skeletal muscle are reviewed and shown to lack components that are required for determining the unit. To secure a definition for the functional unit, requisite criteria were selected, and the manner by which these criteria were used to define the functional unit are discussed. For deriving a definition of the unit the following values were obtained: the unit is associated with the total length of the muscle fiber, which may achieve a maximum length of 60 cm; it exhibits an average diameter of 40 micrometers/fiber; it is associated with a capillary net whose length (arteriole to venule) is about 750-1,000 micrometers max; the net exhibits a capillary-to-fiber ratio for long capillaries of approximately 1-1.5:1, with a transverse capillaries occurring approximately every 150 micrometers; and it has a fiber-to-motor end plate ratio of 1:1. The correlation between anatomic data and functional data indicate that a functional unit of muscle is delimited by about 1 mm2 of the cross-sectional area of a muscle bundle, since this is the maximum area under autonomic control of its particular arteriolar blood supply, the metabolic throttle that determines the power being expended by the muscle bundle.

With the increasing attention of textile, the wear resistance of the fabric is more and more important today. The wear resistance is judged by the sample and standard sample according to sensory contrast complete, but this approach has repeated poor consistency. The subjective factors of testers influence the result heavily. So the powerful image processing tools of MATLAB was used in the analysis of fabrics image processing. By image read, display and interception, image preprocessing, and feature extraction value, the eigenvalues of total area of the hair bulb, maximum area of the hair bulb, and hair bulb number were obtained. After the improved minimum distance discrimination method was used to determine the level of wear resistance by computer. Tests show that fabrics wear resistance level can be judged quickly, accurately and automatically.

This study was done to determine whether the sublingual gland ducts could be visualized and/or their function assessed by MR sialography and dynamic MR sialography and to elucidate the clinical significance of the visualization and/or evaluation of the function of sublingual gland ducts by clinical application of these techniques. In 20 adult volunteers, 19 elderly volunteers, and 7 patients with sublingual gland disease, morphological and functional evaluations were done by MR sialography and dynamic MR sialography. Next, four parameters, including the time-dependent changes (change ratio) in the maximum area of the detectable sublingual gland ducts in dynamic MR sialographic images and data were analyzed. Sublingual gland ducts could be accurately visualized in 16 adult volunteers, 12 elderly volunteers, and 5 patients. No significant differences in the four parameters in detectable duct areas of sublingual glands were found among the three groups. In one patient with a ranula, the lesion could be correctly diagnosed as a ranula by MR sialography because the mass was clearly derived from sublingual gland ducts. This is the first report of successful visualization of sublingual gland ducts. In addition, the present study suggests that MR sialography can be more useful in the diagnosis of patients with lesions of sublingual gland ducts.

The present study was conducted in Goshal, one of the largest villages of Lahaul valley of Himachal Pradesh during 2010 to 2013 to study the land use pattern of village Goshal by classifying the study area into three major ecosystems viz; Forest ecosystem, alpine pasture ecosystem and agro-ecosystem and to assess the soil physical properties of these ecosystems. Land use pattern in agro ecosystem revealed that of the total area of village Goshal, maximum area was occupied under second grade irrigated area and maximum area under non cultivable lands was reported under grasslands. Pea occupied maximum per cent area which showed the shifting of the farming community from traditional cropping pattern to cash crops. It was further observed that the villagers opted plantations of poplars and willows. The soil physical properties of all the three ecosystems were found medium in available nutrient status.

An investigation was under taken to study the soil fertility status of major nutrients, micronutrients and mapping in Ramasamudram-1 microwatershed of Yadgir taluk and district of Karnataka, India during the year 2019. Total seventy-four grid wise surface soil samples were collected at 320 m grid interval at 0-15 cm depth to assess the soil parameters (texture, pH, EC, OC, available P, K, S, Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn and B) and prepare the soil fertility maps through GIS using Kriging method. The results of the study indicated that, the texture of the soil varied from loamy sand to sand clay loam in surface. Soil reaction varied from acidic to neutral with non-saline in nature. The distribution of soil organic carbon (32%), available phosphorous (56%) and potassium (47%) status was found to be medium in most of the area of microwatershed. The available sulphur status was found to be low (57%) in maximum area of the microwatershed. The available zinc status was found to be sufficient (46%) in majority area of the microwatershed. The available copper, iron and manganese status of the soils were sufficient (58%) in entire area. Whereas available boron status was found to be low (57%) in maximum area of the microwatershed. Therefore, the study showed that, the soils of the microwatershed were medium in fertility status. There is need of proper fertilizer recommendation and soil management practices can be made productive thereby, increasing the crop yield.
