This paper reports on a qualitative study in Finland of the relationship between self-perceived generic competences and the entrepreneurial intentions of business students when they started their Bachelor's degree studies. The study was based on course-related written assignments of one international student group. The findings illustrated three different types of student competence profiles: independent achievers, social team players and dependent individuals; and they also created a starting point for the later examination of competence development.

Rural e-commerce entrepreneurship is an effective and credible means to alleviate poverty and promote sustainable social development, particularly in the Base of the Pyramid (BoP). Understanding how to encourage BoPs’ entrepreneurial intention in the rural e-commerce market has become a key issue for private enterprises and local governments. Based on the entrepreneurial event model, we constructed a research framework to evaluate the factors influencing BoPs’ entrepreneurial intention in rural e-commerce. We conducted an online survey of rural e-commerce practitioners from Jieyang and Chaozhou in Guangdong Province, China, and empirically analyzed the survey results using SmartPLS software. The results show that professional knowledge, resource endowment, information and communication technology, and logistics infrastructure have a significant positive impact on BoP entrepreneurship in rural e-commerce, while previous market channels had a significant negative impact. Based on the findings, we recommend that BoPs should focus more on cultivating professional knowledge in e-commerce entrepreneurship and capitalize on local resource advantage. E-commerce enterprises and local governments should strengthen and improve information communication technology and logistics infrastructure among BoP communities. Policymakers should support BoP entrepreneurship in rural e-commerce by creating a favorable environment.

Entrepreneurship and new venture creation are seen as important drivers of media industry’s change and renewal. However, whether newly founded companies will emerge in the future depends to a large extent on entrepreneurial individuals. Through a survey of students from 47 German universities ( N = 720), this study identifies critical factors that explain the entrepreneurial intention of today’s mass communication students, who are likely to be among the future start-up founders in journalism and media industry. Conclusions drawn indicate possibilities for the early identification of potential media entrepreneurs and their ongoing encouragement by journalism and mass communication educators.

The author explores the decision making process of Indian students and factors influencing the decision of going abroad from the lens of prospective students. The study involves a sample of 362 prospective students from India. The author used a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews to collect data. The findings revealed that Indian students' decision making process involves four stages and differs according to the type and level of education. This study also provides insights into international student recruiters related to potential clients' choices and usage of different marketing strategies.
