Body adiposity index (BAI) is documented to exhibit significant relationship with the component of metabolic syndromes (MetS) including serum glucose. The relationship between BAI and serum glucose among postmenopausal women has not been well studied. This study was aimed at determining the relationship between BAI and serum glycemic level among postmenopausal women. The study design was observational crosssectional. Fasting serum glucose was obtained via superficial vein venipuncture after at least eight hours of meal and was analysed following standard biochemical procedure. Standard techniques for anthropometric measurement were used in obtaining the standard parameters. Chi-square was used to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and clinically accepted categorical subdivision of fasting blood sugar (FBG). A total of 156 postmenopausal women with mean age of 62.70 ± 12.84 years, height (1.58 ± 0.07) m, weight (67.30 ± 17.68) kg, hip circumference (99.94 ± 12.75) cm, waist circumference (86.56 ± 14.25) cm, BAI (32.61 ± 6.78), BMI (27.05 ± 6.90) kh/m2  and fasting blood sugar (FBS) (5.21 ± 2.78mmol/L) were assessed in the here was significant positive correlation between BAI and BMI (r = 0.877, P = 6.97x10-51) and not between BAI and FBG (r = 0.026, P = 0.748). In conclusion BAI was not significantly associated with serum glycemic level among post-menopausal women.

AbstractObjectiveTo evaluate agreement of the body adiposity index (BAI) and paediatric body adiposity index (BAIp) in estimating body fat compared with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and to propose cut-off points for these indices to classify excess adiposity in Brazilian children and adolescents.DesignCross-sectional study. Measures of weight, height, hip circumference, BMI and body fat percentage (%BF) assessed by DXA were taken, and BAI and BAIp were calculated. The Bland–Altman plot was used to estimate agreement between the methods, and the receiver-operating characteristic curve to determine the cut-off points for BAI and BAIp per age and sex in comparison with DXA.SettingViçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil.SubjectsChildren and adolescents aged 8–19 years (n 1049).ResultsOf the children and adolescents, 52·4 % were girls. BAI and BAIp had satisfactory performance by the receiver-operating characteristic curve, except for the 18–19 years age group, whose BAIp had better predictive capacity than BAI. The agreement analysis showed that BAI overestimated %BF by 2·64 %, on average, using DXA; while BAIp underestimated %BF by 3·37 %.ConclusionsBAI and BAIp showed low agreement with the body fat obtained by DXA, requiring caution when interpreting body composition data in children and adolescents.

Abstract Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases with characteristic hyperglycemia that happen by abnormal secretions of insulin, insulin action, or both. The condition of insulin resistance in DM type 2 cause abnormal lipid metabolism that indicated by increase or decrease levels of lipid fraction in plasma, include increase levels of Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) or triglycerides, decrease levels of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), and formed small dense Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL). The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the fasting blood sugar levels with HDL cholesterol levels in patients with DM type 2. The method use an analytical study with cross sectional design. Sampling examined as many as 35 samples by purposive sampling. The relationship between fasting blood sugar levels with HDL cholesterol levels is analyzed by Pearson Product Moment Correlation test.
