As procurement organizations increasingly move from a cost-and-efficiency emphasis to a profit-and-growth emphasis, flexible data architecture will become an integral part of a procurement analytics strategy. It is therefore imperative for procurement leaders to understand and address digitization trends in supply chains and to develop strategies to create robust data architecture and analytics strategies for the future. This chapter assesses and examines the ways companies can organize their procurement data architectures in the big data space to mitigate current limitations and to lay foundations for the discovery of new insights. It sets out to understand and define the levels of maturity in procurement organizations as they pertain to the capture, curation, exploitation, and management of procurement data. The chapter then develops a framework for articulating the value proposition of moving between maturity levels and examines what the future entails for companies with mature data architectures. In addition to surveying the practitioner and academic research literature on procurement data analytics, the chapter presents detailed and structured interviews with over fifteen procurement experts from companies around the globe. The chapter finds several important and useful strategies that have helped procurement organizations design strategic roadmaps for the development of robust data architectures. It then further identifies four archetype procurement area data architecture contexts. In addition, this chapter details exemplary high-level mature data architecture for each archetype and examines the critical assumptions underlying each one. Data architectures built for the future need a design approach that supports both descriptive and real-time, prescriptive analytics.

Purpose Accessible tourism is evolving as a field of academic research and industry practice, set within a dynamic social context. The field is interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary. The purpose of this paper is to examine key concepts and global initiatives that will shape accessible tourism futures. Design/methodology/approach Three of the authors have extensive academic experience in the area and the fourth author is the Managing Director of the pre-eminent European Network for Accessible Tourism. In taking a limited Delphi approach to canvassing key areas likely to shape accessible tourism futures, the following concepts and policy initiatives were examined: motivations, dreams and aspirations of people with disability; demography; UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; destination competitiveness; universal design (UD); and the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. Findings A discussion of each of the above areas was placed in context to accessible tourism futures and to contextualise the papers that were selected for the special issue. The latter part of the paper outlines the contribution of each empirical paper to the issue discussing the approach, findings and implications. Stakeholder collaboration was identified as the key common theme of the papers and the factor for developing accessible tourism solutions, recognising the value of the market and capitalising on it. A collaborative approach is required to recognise the complementary nature of the different paradigms; to re-shape and transform the future of the accessible tourism industry. To assist in the development of accessible tourism futures, UD principles should provide a foundation to enhance the future competitiveness of tourism destinations and organisations. Originality/value The paper’s examination of the concepts and global policy considerations provides a strong academic and practitioner foundation for considering accessible tourism futures. In doing so, accessible tourism futures are shown to be affected by key concepts related to core tourism considerations and major policy initiatives on accessibility and sustainability. Yet, accessible tourism futures also have the potential to create their own momentum and contribute unique learnings on the diversity of tourism markets that will shape tourism concepts and global policy initiatives in their own right.

This paper argues that cross-fertilization among translation academic researchers, practitioners and trainers is needed for all the actors involved in the translation enterprise. It calls for a practice-based research model to materialize the mechanisms needed for the interaction and collaboration of the three stakeholders, which would have positive impacts on the translation landscape. Given that this cross-fertilization can only be beneficial if it is structured and sustained, then it has to be formalized and institutionalized. A plan will be proposed as to how this can be materialized. It is a thesis of this paper that professional practice needs academic research (theories) to shape it, and theory can only have functional dimensions through professional practice; therefore, there is a pressing need to bridge the gap between “knowing” and “doing” in translation. To the extent that this position is valid the university is invited to play a leading role in materializing this objective, with a view to shaping the future of the translation profession and preserving translation education in Arab universities.

ResumoO estudo aqui exposto é parte de uma pesquisa de mestrado em andamento desenvolvida no Programa de Pós-Graduação Stricto Sensu em Metodologias para o Ensino de Linguagens e suas Tecnologias. Trata-se de uma investigação que tem o propósito de retratar a pesquisa acadêmica encontrada no repositório de publicações da Associação Brasileira de Ensino em Engenharia – ABENGE –. Para a realização desta pesquisa bibliográfica buscou-se no repositório. os artigos publicados em um período de 12 anos – a partir de 2006 até 2018. Selecionou-se publicações que tiveram como foco a utilização de softwares para desenvolver processos de ensino e de aprendizagem de disciplinas de cursos de engenharia. Dos 397 artigos encontrados, 25 foram selecionados como instrumento de análise para esta pesquisa, dos quais, 14 deles foram publicados em 2017 e 2018. Analisando as tais publicações, pôde concluir que o método qualitativo se sobressaiu acima do quantitativo e quali-quanti, e ainda 44% dos artigos se basearam em questionários, avaliações ou entrevistas, seguidos de 40% de pesquisas bibliográficas. No tocante aos resultados foi possível identificar que quase a totalidade dos estudos concluiu que a utilização de diferentes metodologias, dentre elas softwares para o ensino, é fundamental para a inserção do futuro engenheiro ao mercado atual. AbstractThe study here presented is part of an ongoing master's research developed at the Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Program in Methodologies for Language Teaching and its Technologies. It is an investigation that has the purpose of portraying the academic research found in the repository of publications of the Brazilian Association of Engineering Teaching - ABENGE. In order to carry out this bibliographical research, the repository was searched for articles published over a period of 12 years - from 2006 to 2018. Publications that focused on the use of software to develop teaching and learning processes for engineering courses were selected. Of the 397 articles found, 25 were selected as analysis tools for this research, 14 of which were published in 2017 and 2018. Analyzing these publications, it was possible to conclude that the qualitative method stood out above the quantitative and quali-quantitative methods, and 44% of the articles were based on questionnaires, evaluations or interviews, followed by 40% of bibliographical research. Regarding the results, it was possible to identify that almost all the studies concluded that the use of different methodologies, including software for teaching, is fundamental for the insertion of the future engineer in the current market. Many students appear to be continually connected to social media sites such as Facebook. Such social media sites can be pervasive in nature. The use of these sites through mobile devices often extends into the classroom, sometimes to the detriment of scheduled teaching activities. Further, many students do not seem to be aware of the negative effect that ill-considered information placed on social media sites can have towards their future employment. This chapter reviews the positives and negatives of social media as it relates to the future employability of students. Due to the changing nature of this field, the chapter is largely presented from practical experience, rather than a traditional academic research-led approach. Much of the focus is on the ways that students can present themselves online in a manner which should encourage employers to offer students jobs and placement opportunities. The chapter reviews a number of the major Websites where students should establish professional profiles. It also looks at the overall need for students to establish a professional presence online and show that they are a desirable employee. The chapter concludes by looking at the challenges involved with integrating the teaching of employability through social media into existing teaching. A number of research areas for further consideration are also presented.

This paper presents an overview of the field of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). Though PLM has many facets, this paper mainly focus on the business drivers, requirements, concept and components behind the PLM as well as the technical foundations and the status of PLM academic research and industry solutions. Furthermore, a holistic roadmap of PLM is presented. The future research trends and challenges are finally discussed.

Theorization is indispensable for making academic research relevant to social struggles, but not all types of theorization are equally useful. We need theory as vision. Conceived consciously from a particular vantage point and with a purpose, theory as vision reveals hidden connections among different aspects of life and enables alternative imaginations about the future. Theory as vision must explain why things are as they are and at the same time show how things could be different. Key to this is a type of imaginative ethnographic accuracy that captures not only existing reality but also potentials for change. This article illustrates this by revisiting historical debates on theorizing the Chinese peasantry between Mao Zedong and Liang Shuming, a philosopher and social reformer, in the 1930s and then the 1950s. The article in the end proposes articulation of connections across scales as a mode of anthropological theorization.

The paper is an attempt at writing of the new conceptual biography of a renowned Muslim reformist leader in late tsarist and early Soviet Caucasus. After ‘Ali al- Ghumuqi more known under the name of Kayaev (1878–1943) from the Dagestani village of Ghumuq fell the victim of the Stalinist political repressions and then was gradually rehabilitated, historians often presented him a leftist journalist and politician close to the Bolsheviks, sometimes also a bibliophile who collected one of the largest private libraries of Muslim Oriental manuscripts and documents. Seriously revising this not very correct image the authors of this article investigate rather his academic research activities that allow rethinking Kayaev as a Muslim historian revisionist. The focus is made on his Oriental source studies that traced the future development of the famous Dagestani school of academic Oriental studies in the twentieth century, as well as on Kayaev’s original treatment of Muslim historiography he considered through the lenses of Muslim peoples’ development as principal historical actors.


Low productivity is regarded as a problem for Japan's service industry, especially in the lodging services. As a matter of course, improvement of productivity of this industry is required urgently. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify what the academic research has shown about the productivity of lodging services so far. In addition, there are companies that maintain high productivity in this service, it is necessary to derive implications from these cases and to consider the direction of research on productivity of lodging services in the future.
