The goal of this paper is to reopen the question of and propose a solution to the as yet unresolved problem of the exact location of the Timacum stations on the Naissus-Ratiaria itinerary road. Based on plentiful material evidence it seeks to draw a more reliable picture of the Roman itinerary road and its newly-discovered traces. Also, it points to the possibility of a completely new interpretation of the itinerary sources relating to this issue. The method adopted here relies on the data contained in the Roman itineraries as well as on the archaeological and epigraphic evidence.

Parthenogenetic species of lizard occasionally produce male progeny characterized by developmental defects and low viability. Production of anomalous males is an unresolved problem in sexual differentiation as parthenogenetic female lizards are expected to produce female offspring. The "anomalous male" phenomenon was examined by sexing nonviable embryos produced by the parthenogenetic whiptail lizard Cnemidophorus uniparens. Twenty-six deformed embryos were obtained; all were female except for three which did not possess gonads. Male embryos were not detected. Developmental deformities found in Cnemidophorus embryos included anophthalmia, micropthalmia, encephalocoele, hypoplasia of the lower jaw, head foreshortening, gastroschisis, and malformations of the vertebral column. Several embryos possessed a combination of defects. Four hypotheses are presented to account for production of anomalous males by reptilian parthenoforms. Three hypotheses involve production of sex-reversed males (genetic females). A fourth hypothesis asserts that anomalous males are derived from hybridization events between a female from a unisexual species and a male from a bisexual species. Of the four hypotheses, the hybridization hypothesis has the greatest utility in explaining production of anomalous males by parthenogenetic lizards.

This paragraph introduces a paper which illustrates a larger project: a study of aspects of Gower's works in fourteenth-century historical relationships. The objective is an interpretation of his writings as mirroring the attitude and point of view of a conservative middle-class Englishman for the years 1381-1400 and through them an interpretation of the England of his day. Though these writings show the long heritage of an economic, political, ethical, and religious past, our interest always centers in his immediate present. Non-literary contemporary records consequently provide the first essential materials for this interpretation. Macaulay's standard edition of his works, published half a century ago, based on all manuscripts then available, constitutes the printed source for this study. The high quality of Gower's preserved manuscripts, which give his own revisions, and the fact that these revisions show important changes in his attitudes toward individuals and organizations or institutions, make a re-examination of all of them now available an essential part of this interpretation and raise again the unresolved problem of his ethical integrity. Gardiner Stillwell's able article, “John Gower and the Last Years of Edward III,” provides a suggestive introduction for the interested student. The title of the present article is John Gower, Mentor for Royalty: Richard II.

Endometriosis remains an unresolved problem in gynecology. The urgency of the fight against this disease is due to its high prevalence among women of reproductive age. Endometriosis, especially its infiltration forms, affects all aspects of the patients life, its clinical manifestations pelvic pain, dyspareunia, dysmenorrhea, dyschezia, lead to social disadaptation, problems in personal life, depression and anxiety. The socio-economic burden of the disease motivates researchers to further study the pathogenesis of endometriosis and search for pathogenetically justified pharmacological solutions.
