This study aims to apply the Internet of Things to monitoring electricity energy consumption. The system is designed to replace the manual and conventional measurement of electrical energy. Uncontrolled use of electricity is one of the causes of high levels of electrical energy consumption. Therefore, consumers need to know the amount of electrical energy consumption in real-time. The device is designed using the PZEM-004T which is used as a sensor to read electrical multi-parameter, Arduino as the main control, and ESP8266 as a data sender on the Cloud system. The test results showed that the device has been able to read and display electricity quantity data in the form of voltage, current, power, and electricity tariff accumulation in real-time displayed on the ThingSpeak platform. The test on the PZEM-004T sensor has an accuracy rate of 94.96% for reading current values and 99.42% for reading voltage values.

In this paper, we will show a prototype of a system designed based on Internet of Things solutions with the aim of optimizing electrical energy consumption in order to achieve desired conditions for the growth and development of plants located in the greenhouse. The physical parameters that this system monitors are temperature, relative humidity, soil humidity and luminescence levels. In this prototype, we have three measurement nodes with the task of collecting parameter data, processing them and sending resulting data, via wireless communication, to a receiver. The receiver forwards data to the application on PC. The application processes the data and displays it to the end user who can choose to automatically or manually control the devices that are inside of the greenhouse. Systems placed inside the greenhouse are heating, irrigation, lighting and ventilation systems.

The use of electrical energy that is often encountered in households is leaving the house with the lights on, leaving electronic goods stuck in the socket, charging cell phones overnight and turning on the air conditioner when no one is around. This unwise behavior will result in a high increase in the use of electrical energy. To reduce this unwise behavior, a device will be made that functions as a switch to cut off electrical energy automatically when we leave the room. This tool uses an Arduino Uno microcontroller with a Passive Infrared Receiver sensor to flow electrical energy when we enter the room and cut off electrical energy when leaving the room. It can be concluded that the use of an automatic switch can reduce electrical energy consumption. Automatic switches with a delay of 20 seconds compared to conventional switches have a significant ratio of electrical energy consumption as indicated by the test results of a multiple ratio of 0.00 with a test level of less than 0.05. Using an automatic switch with a 20 second delay results in savings in electrical energy consumption of 48.76% of the electrical energy consumption using conventional switches.

Software Defined Networking (SDN) provides a new perspective for the Internet of Things (IoT), since, with the separation of the control from the data planes, it is viable to optimise the traditional networks operation management. In particular, the SDN Controller has a global vision of the network of sensors/actuators domain, allowing real-time network nodes and data flows reconfiguration. As a consequence, devices, usually facing limited communications and computing resources, are relieved of the route selection task in a distributed and, thus, suboptimal way. This paper proposes a SDN-IoT architecture, specifically focusing on the Controller design, which dynamically optimises in real time the end-to-end flows delivery. In particular, the dynamic routing policy adaptation is based on the real-time estimation of the network status and it allows jointly minimising the end-to-end latency and energy consumption and, consequently, to improve the network life time. The performance of the proposed approach is analysed in terms of the average latency, energy consumption and overhead, pointing out a better behaviour in comparison with the existing distributed approaches.

In this paper a ?Smart Home? solution is proposed in which power plugs in a remote room can be controlled by a smartwatch, an Android mobile device or a PHP web app. Communication between these devices takes place in real time via server using Node.js technology. An electrical circuit for determining current and voltage on the plugs via Arduino Wi-Fi module sends the measured values to the server, based on which the electrical energy consumption in each time interval can be determined. All the measured values are stored in MySQL database and used for creation of appropriate reports. Smartwatch app enables remote plugging and unplugging. In addition, the setting of limits for electrical energy consumption on each plug is enabled, as well as the power of the consumption device that can be plugged. Exceeding of the allowed values leads to the automatic unplugging.

Energy consumption is one of the most important, for it is necessary to control the use of home lighting as needed. Monitoring is important, in order to know the quality of electricity supply in the system, identifying disruption events, and to calculate the amount of electrical energy consumption periodically. To achieve the objectives mentioned above, two schemes for home control and monitoring the electrical quantities in real-time have been developed. The first scheme presents Bluetooth based home control.  It uses an HC-05 Bluetooth module and Bluetooth Controller mobile application for switching on / off the appliances. Relay and LEDs are used as loads to demonstrate the working of the system. This system is based on Arduino Uno microcontroller board. Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE) is used for developing the necessary software. The second scheme uses the current sensor ACS712-20A for monitoring of voltage, current, and energy consumption. The measurement results include voltage, current, power, and the amount of energy consumption that is displayed by LCD 16*2.

The paper proposing the cloud based internet of things for the smart connected objects, concentrates on developing a smart home utilizing the internet of things, by providing the embedded labeling for all the tangible things at home and enabling them to be connected through the internet. The smart home proposed in the paper concentrates on the steps in reducing the electricity consumption of the appliances at the home by converting them into the smart connected objects using the cloud based internet of things and also concentrates on protecting the house from the theft and the robbery. The proposed smart home by turning the ordinary tangible objects into the smart connected objects shows considerable improvement in the energy consumption and the security provision.
