This paper is focused on the effect of treatment of fly ash after selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) with tannin on autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) production in order to reduce or stop ammonia leakage from the fresh mixture due to its alkalinity. A pure form of tannin and a tannin-based product „Farmatan“ were used as a treatment in dosage ranging from 0,5 g – 3 g of agent per 1 kg of fly ash. Efficient dosage was determined at 2 wt.% of fly ash by the speed of an indicator change due to gaseous ammonia diluted in water. The rheological properties of fresh mixtures were observed by consistency test in Viskomat showing that Farmatan causes delay of hydration. The results of bulk density and compressive strength testing revealed that Farmatan causes an increase of bulk density and at higher amount decreases the compressive strength because of thermal crack formation due to combined effect of delayed hydration and thixotropy. Using x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis there were no differences in phase composition observed.

Abstract Novel approach to rheological modelling of a fly ash-water mixture is proposed. The model is first tested against the available experimental data for a corn starch-water, a glass beads-water and a fly ash-water mixture and then used taking the advantage of available CFD code for a calculation of major and minor losses. Numerical results for Quadratic model are compared with results for Power law.

The influence of the synthesis temperature of a new fly ash–belite cement (FABC) on its hydraulic activity and microstructural characteristics is discussed in this work. Three types of FABC were synthesized at 700, 800, and 900 °C after a previous hydrothermal treatment at 200 °C of the fly ash, CaO, and water mixture. The hydraulic activity of the pastes was evaluated during a period of 200 days from mixing through the combined water content, previously determined from thermogravimetric analyses, and the hydration advance degree by x-ray diffraction (XRD). The microstructure characterization of the pastes was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

This work reports on the separation of cenospheres from lignite fly ash through a wet separation process-the sink-float method. A better quality of cenospheres could be achieved through a physical–chemical approach using an acetone–water mixture as a medium. This work aimed to elucidate the correlation between the structure, morphology, and composition and medium fraction variables, with data for the freshly prepared and the reused mixtures presented for comparison. The work covers a study of the macrocomponent composition of an Fe2O3–SiO2–Al2O3 system, highlighting the pair dependences of SiO2–Al2O3, Al2O3–Fe2O3, and SiO2/Al2O3–Al2O3 and revealing an interesting result in terms of geochemical characteristics categorizing the collected cenosphere fractions separated from high-calcium class C fly ash produced from a lignite coal power plant in Thailand (as magnetic cenospheres). The CaO and SO3 contents increased monotonically with increased water content, particularly for the CaO composition profile, which was found to be similar to the increased carbonate concentration measured from the mixtures after use. The physicochemical properties in terms of the self-association ability of the acetone–water mixing phase is believed to have played an important role in determining the intermolecular interactions and reactivity of ions in the liquid phase, consequently affecting the separation efficiency, recovery yield, and quality of cenospheres.

Municipal waste combustion typically involves both energy recovery as well as volume reduction of municipal solid waste prior to landfilling. However, due to environmental concerns, municipal waste combustion (MWC) has not been a widely accepted practice. A primary concern is the leaching behavior of MWC ash when it is stored in a landfill. The ash consists of a finely divided fly ash fraction (10% by volume) and a coarser bottom ash (90% by volume). Typically, MWC fly ash fails tests used to evaluate leaching behavior due to high amounts of soluble lead and cadmium species. The focus of this study was to identify specific lead bearing phases in MWC fly ash. Detailed information regarding lead speciation is necessary to completely understand the leaching behavior of MWC ash.

Tin mono selenide (SnSe) with an energy gap of about 1 eV is a potential material for photovoltaic applications. Various authors have studied the structure, electronic and photoelectronic properties of thin films of SnSe grown by various deposition techniques. However, for practical photovoltaic junctions the electrical properties of SnSe films need improvement. We have carried out investigations into the properties of flash evaporated SnSe films. In this paper we report our results on the structure, which plays a dominant role on the electrical properties of thin films by TEM, SEM, and electron diffraction (ED).Thin films of SnSe were deposited by flash evaporation of SnSe fine powder prepared from high purity Sn and Se, onto glass, mica and KCl substrates in a vacuum of 2Ø micro Torr. A 15% HF + 2Ø% HNO3 solution was used to detach SnSe film from the glass and mica substrates whereas the film deposited on KCl substrate was floated over an ethanol water mixture by dissolution of KCl. The floating films were picked up on the grids for their EM analysis.
