Based on the previously conducted analytical study of the destruction of conducting composites by lightning currents, methods for increasing their lightning resistance are considered. To substantiate these methods, an analysis of the current distribution at different ratios of transverse and longitudinal resistivity was carried out. One of the methods using conductive additives in the composition of the binder material allows you to influence the anisotropy of the conductive medium of carbon fiber. The parameters of the range of the degree of anisotropy of carbon fiber are proposed to achieve uniform current spreading and reduce the radius of destruction of the composite by lightning currents. The formula for the fracture radius in the absence of anisotropy is obtained and estimated calculations are performed. The method of reinforcing carbon fiber with thin wires to increase its lightning resistance is considered. Calculated expressions are found for estimating the weight, the number of delays per unit area, and the absence of overheating. Comparisons of weight characteristics for various reinforcing materials are carried out and a conclusion is made on their effectiveness. The advantages and disadvantages of this method of protection are considered. The third way to increase the lightning resistance of the composite suggests using a carbon fiber material with a woven structure as a protective coating. This protection reduces the energy release in the material and the size of the damage. It is concluded that it is necessary to control the lightning protection parameters and choose a coating with the required characteristics. The principles and criteria of lightning protection for real carbon fiber plastics will be considered in subsequent works.

Activated carbon fiber has excellent structural characteristics and adsorption performance. It can effectively adsorb various inorganic and organic compounds and has good regeneration performance. Therefore, it is widely used in the market. To study the advantages of activated carbon fiber in purifying water resources, this research use application of activated carbon fiber material in purification and filtration of water filter, and the test of adsorption and filtration effect of different host materials are described. The main body and influencing factors of filtering effect are obtained. In this research, the viscose-based activated carbon fiber mats and acrylic-based activated carbon fabrics are the main research subjects, and other materials were added for coating composite research. Through a comparative study of the two materials, it has been found that carbon fiber has many advantages, such as is more economical, practical, convenient, low cost, and cost-effective, and is worthy of promotion in industry and daily life using.

Thermal protection systems (TPS) are used to protect spacecraft payloads during the extreme conditions of atmospheric entry. The backbone of the composite TPS material used in the NASA Stardust Sample Return Capsule and the Mars 2020 mission is carbon fiber, which oxidizes at these temperatures and atmospheric conditions. This study presents the direct observation of carbon oxidation using in situ Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM). A thin section of a commercially-available carbon fiber material containing multiple carbon structures was examined by STEM in a closed-environmental cell in which temperature was raised from 25 to 1050àC under a steady flow of air. Results show that the random polycrystalline carbon structure oxidized more uniformly and rapidly than the single crystallite region, which oxidized more anisotropically. These findings are the first to directly observe the structural dependence of carbon oxidation rates at these length-scales while also giving important insight into the onset of pitting at various active surface sites, important pieces in fundamentally understanding of carbon oxidation.

Unidirectional carbon fiber composite material is one of the most common types of composites employed in vehicles, and its bending performance plays an important role in crash safety, especially in side pole impact. This study aimed to redesign one of the most important components of the side structure of a vehicle, the rocker panel, with unidirectional carbon fiber composite material. Our results show that it is not easy to acquire the same bending performance as that of a steel rocker panel by merely replacing it with carbon fiber material and increasing the wall thickness. Therefore, reinforcements were employed to improve the bending performance of the carbon fiber rocker panel, and a polypropylene reinforcement method achieved a weight reduction of 40.7% compared with high-strength steel.
