Background: The Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS) portal captures and tracks all pregnant women right from conception up to 42 days after delivery and all children below five years. Objectives: This study was conducted to find out the technical, behavioral and organizational factors that affect the process and performance of MCTS. Material and Methods: This was an exploratory qualitative study conducted in Varanasi district by using multistage random sampling method. Data were collected by in-depth interviews of 48 health care providers. Results: Majority of the ANMs and ASHAs were not aware of the meaning of “Tracking System” and the use of MCTS ID. Inappropriate training of ASHAs, absence of supervision and monitoring by ANMs, overburdened DEOs and ANMs, poor internet connection, slow server speed, software problem and frequent power failures were identified as major factors for poor performance of MCTS. Conclusion: The most effective measure to improve the performance of MCTS would be to properly train grass root level workers so that more efficient data can be fed into MCTS.

Background: Uncertainty leads to a stressful situation in patients with thalassemia major that can dramatically affect their psychosocial coping ability, treatment process and disease outcomes, and reduce patients' quality of life. As one of the important factors affecting the health of thalassemia patients, understanding the concept of uncertainty is of major importance to health care providers especially nurses as the first line of exposure to these patients. The present study aimed to explore the experiences of uncertainty in patients with thalassemia major. Materials and Methods: The present qualitative study was conducted through in-depth face-to-face semi-structured interviews held with 18 patients with major thalassemia selected through purposive sampling. Interviews continued until saturation of data. All interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed with conventional content analysis method of Landman and Graneheim using MAXQDA10 software. Results: Two main themes, including 'living in the shadow of anxiety' and 'coping with uncertainty' emerged from patients’ experiences of illness uncertainty of thalassemia. 'Living in the shadow of anxiety' included four categories of 'fear of complications', 'contradictory views on treatment', 'unknown future' and 'stigma'. 'Coping with uncertainty' included three categories of 'spiritual coping', 'psychosocial coping' and 'knowledge acquisition'. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, uncertainty is a major psychological stress in patients with thalassemia major. Healthcare providers should therefore consider the challenges and concerns faced by patients and, through utilizing appropriate training and communicational practices, plan interventions and strategies to empower patients for coping with uncertainty.

Requirements for integrating care across providers, settings, and over time increase with patients’ needs. Health care providers’ ability to offer care that patients experience as integrated may vary among patients with different levels of need. We explore the variation in patients’ perceptions of integrated care among Medicare beneficiaries based on the beneficiary’s level of need using ordinary least square regression for each of four high-need groups: beneficiaries (a) with complex chronic conditions, (b) with frailties, (c) below 65 with disability, and (d) with any (of the first three) high needs. We control for beneficiary demographics and other factors affecting integrated care, and we conduct sensitivity analyses controlling for multiple individual chronic conditions. We find significant positive associations with level of need for provider support for self-directed care and medication and home health management. Controlling for multiple individual chronic conditions reduces effect sizes and number of significant relationships.

The current investigation seeks to examine the attitudes and beliefs of health care providers in Canada about people living with HIV. The line of research consists of three studies. Study 1 was a qualitative study conducted with a critical lens. The critical lens was used in a series of four focus groups when qualitatively soliciting opinions about the range of attitudes, behaviours and cognitions health care providers may have towards people living with HIV. Study 2 used the information gathered from Study 1 to develop a scale to assess HIV stigma in health care providers. Items were created from examples and themes found in the qualitative study, and were tested via exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, test-retest reliability analysis, and assessed for convergent and divergent validity. Study 3 examined the newly developed scale’s relationship to proposed overlapping stigmas and attitudes, and tested the adapted intersectional model of HIV-related stigma with health care trainees using the newly developed HIV stigma scale as an outcome measure. The line of research found that HIV stigma continues to be a significant problem in the health care system. The scale developed in Study 2 demonstrates that HIV stigma can be conceptualized and assessed as a tripartite model of discrimination, stereotyping and prejudice, and that this conceptualization of HIV stigma supports an intersectional model of overlapping stigmas with homophobia, racism, stigma against injection drug use and stigma against sex work.

Background: Malnutrition is a complex problem with double burden of undernutrition and overweight. India is no exception to it but there is a higher level of malnutrition in tribal blocks and to curb this situation,various activities have been undertaken but the slow pace of decline in malnutrition is a concern.The role of frontline health workers is crucial in strengthening primary health care.They serve as the bridge between the formal government health-care system and the community.The present study helps to seek the perception of primary health care service providers and challenges faced by them in reducing child deaths due to malnutrition. Method: A descriptive cross sectional qualitative study was conducted during August 2019 - February 2020 in three talukas of a tribal district. Focus group discussions (FGD) for each service providers Auxiliary Nurse midwife (ANM), Anganwadi worker (AWW) and Accredited Social Health activist (ASHA) were conducted. All the FGDs were audio recorded and transcripts were prepared,a thematic analysis framework was used for doing the analysis. Results: Most of the service providers were aware regarding their roles and responsibilities in implementation of schemes/ services related to malnutrition. The important factors influencing their performance were superstitions, more reliance on health seeking from unqualified health care providers and faith healers, poor road connectivity, network issues,lack of refresher training,overburdening with work,poor incentives. Conclusion: Specific training programs to tackle malnutrition along with frequent refresher training of the service providers,better infrastructure and human resources will help in achieving the desired results in future in dealing with child malnutrition.

Background: Nurses play a crucial role in the prevention of communicable diseases through the public health immunization programs. Knowledge, attitude and practices of health care providers have significant impact on the vaccine administration and education of adults and parents of children.Objective: The present qualitative study aims to explore the knowledge, attitude and practices of nurses in Qatar before and after the delivery of the immunization-related continuous professional development program.Methods: 10 out of 125 nurses who have completed the training program volunteered to participate in the face-to-face interviews. Data was then collected, transcribed and analysed by the researcher team members.Results: Themes identified from this study: Empowerment, advancing practice and continuing education. Participants felt more confident and had a sense of fulfilment on completion of the education program. Practicing evidenced based skills and methods achieved an outcome of better quality of care, which can directly affect practice. Participants also felt that continuing education allows them to become self-motivated to keep up with new and emerging knowledge. Taken together, our data revealed that continuing professional education immunization-training program was successful in improving the knowledge, attitude and practices of the participants.Conclusions: Continued education beyond traditional baccalaureate nursing programs in order to ensure nurses possess the knowledge to safely handle, teach and administer vaccines is needed.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop and analyze a model of factors influencing interpersonal conflicts. Design/methodology/approach This research was conducted using a mixed method approach. In the qualitative study, the conceptual model of the factors affecting interpersonal conflicts was extracted from semi-structured interviews with 17 relevant experts using a theme analysis technique. Then, three hypotheses were developed based on the model and relevant theoretical evidence. Using a researcher-made questionnaire which was developed earlier based on the qualitative results, a quantitative-based survey was performed to assess the interpersonal conflicts and also the standard scale of the level of interpersonal conflicts (Jehn, 1997). The hypotheses were tested on a sample of 160 employees of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province Gas Company (CBPGC). Findings The results of the qualitative study indicated that individual factors including personality dimensions and individual differences; organizational factors including five dimensions of organizational culture, organizational structure, management characteristics, intra-organization factors and human resource systems; and environmental factors influenced the creation of interpersonal conflicts. The results of the quantitative study indicated that organizational factors with an effect size of 0.502 were identified as the most important factor influencing interpersonal conflicts. Research limitations/implications The findings of this study can provide a roadmap to managers of the CBPGC to be aware of the contributing factors to conflict within their organization. Originality/value The use of mixed method to identify the causes and factors of interpersonal conflict and analyzing a context different from previous studies can be considered as the innovations of this study.
