Mehran University of Engineering & Technology is a public university established in 1973. Wit seventeen faculties of multi-disciplines and having more than 7,500 students, MUET has made lots of achievements. In 2019, MUET is ranked 271 in the world, 2nd in Pakistan, 1st in Sindh Province, and slotted 275th in terms of Energy and Climate change (EC) indicators implementations on Sustainable development by UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. UI GreenMetric is a sustainability-based ranking whose aim is to provide rankings of universities all over the world based on their efforts for the implementation of pre-define indicator criteria. One of the criteria for this ranking is the Energy and Climate change (EC) indicator which had a most 21 percent weightage. In this review, this paper presents a detailed analysis for the implementation of EC indicators of UI GreenMetric World University Rankings to reduce carbon dioxide footprints and maintain sustainability at MUET gymnasium fitness facility. In this mechanism, an Energy Efficient Flywheel-Based KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) Bicycle Generator is designed and developed. Additionally, a techno-economic (Energy, Cost and Co2 emission saving) beneficial analysis of generators with their usage as a free renewable energy source to overcome luminosity demand of MUET gymnasium fitness facility by an efficient LED lighting system and their relative relation with the EC indicator implementation is also discussed.

This paper examines counterfactual display in the valuation of carbon offsetting projects. Considered a legitimate way to encourage climate change mitigation, such projects rely on the establishment of procedures for the prospective assessment of their capacity to become carbon sinks. This requires imagining possible worlds and assessing their plausibility. The world inhabited by the project is articulated through conditional formulation and subjected to what we call “counterfactual display”: the production and circulation of documents that demonstrate and con!gure the counterfactual valuation. We present a case study on one carbon offsetting reforestation project in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We analyse the construction of the scene that allows the “What would have happened” question to make sense and become actionable. We highlight the operations of calculative framing that this requires, the reality constraints it relies upon, and the entrepreneurial conduct it stimulates.

Universities play an important role in the economic development - knowledge economy. Previous studies proposition that universities significantly contribute to the economic development of the countries. Countries implement policies to efficiently connect higher education and the economy. This study explores the relationships between the university performances measured by the world university rankings and the gross domestic product. We employed the data from the World Bank and two university rankings for a period of 2011-2016. We ran correlation analysis followed by t-test analysis for confirming the linear and non-linear relationship. For robustness, we used chi-squared test for independence. The result shows there is a positive non-linear relationship between university performances and GDP. Indicators for citation and research suggests the quality of the research matters more than the mere research and publications. We may conclude that the “research quality” of the university intensive in researching can contribute indirectly to the economic development of the countries.

The goal of this article is to analyze and understand the institutional peculiarities of functionality of the master’s program in sociology in Russian and Indian universities. In the conditions of rapid development of global educational space, master’s programs become an attractive means of exercising academic mobility by students. For this case study, Ural Federal University and Mumbai University were selected, both of which offer master’s programs in sociology and are not part of the QS World University Rankings. The author analyzes the websites of both university, and conducts surveys of sociology students in India (n=65) and Russia (n=66). The results of this research demonstrate that master’s program in the Russian university is practically oriented and is aimed at filling the demands of the regional job market. The program offered by the Indian university is accompanied by national specificity, reflecting peculiarities of the current state of Indian society. For Indian students, getting an education in a Russian university master’s program serves as an important instrument for securing strong status positions. Russian sociology students do not demonstrate interest towards education in Indian universities, opting instead for education in BRICS countries and China.

Climate change is increasing the occurrence of disastrous events in the world, but several disparities in population vulnerability are being registered. One of the causes of these variances is different public risk perception also due to the degree of education and knowledge of the population. In this study, some of the results obtained in a risk perception survey are presented. The survey was carried out in an area of Calabria (Southern Italy) hit by geo-hydrological events that have occurred in recent years with damage to roads, tourism facilities and private houses. A statistical interpretation of the results highlights the importance of education and knowledge to risk perception on the part of the population investigated.
