The purpose of this study was to develop a Medication Adherence Scale for Persons with Coronary Artery Disease (MAS-CAD) based on a nursing perspective. This study was guided by scale development procedures, which consisted of 7 steps: 1) clarifying and determining the concept, 2) generating an item pool, 3) determining the format for measurement, 4) reviewing the initial item pool by 7 professional experts, 5) conducting preliminary item pilot study with 30 Thais with CAD, 6) conducting field-testing for psychometric property testing among 457 Thais with CAD who attended heart clinics of 7 tertiary hospitals in Thailand, and 7) developing scoring and interpretation of the scale scores. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, content validity index, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, confirmatory factor analysis by LISREL, and Pearson product moment correlation. The results showed that the MAS-CAD is a self-report instrument, comprised of 5 rating Likert-scale categorical format, composed of 25 items covering 4 constructs; proper knowledge of prescribed medication (7 items), storing medication appropriately (3 items), self-regulating medication administration correctly and continuously (11 items), and participating in the medication treatment plan (4 items). Psychometric property testing demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency with Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.81, and test-retest reliability was acceptable (r = .62, p < .01). Construct validity was supported by confirmatory factor analysis. In conclusion, the MAS-CAD is a reliable and valid instrument. Nurses can use this scale as a tool for assessing medication adherence for persons with CAD.

Background: Fatigue is a common distressing symptom in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). The Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI) is used for measuring fatigue in various clinical settings. Nevertheless, its multidimensional structure has not been consistent across studies. Thus, we aimed to psychometrically evaluate the MFI in patients with CAD. Methods: In sum, 1162 CAD patients completed questionnaires assessing their subjective fatigue level (MFI-20), mental distress symptoms (HADS, STAI), and health-related quality of life (SF-36). Participants also completed exercise capacity (EC) testing. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis of the four-factor model, showed acceptable fit (CFI = 0.905; GFI = 0.895; NFI = 0.893, RMSEA = 0.077). After eliminating four items, confirmatory factor analysis testing showed improvement in the four-factor model of the MFI-16 (CFI = 0.910; GFI = 0.909; NFI = 0.898, RMSEA = 0.077). Internal consistency values were adequate for the total score and four MFI-16 subscales: General fatigue, physical fatigue, reduced activity, and mental fatigue with Cronbach’s α range: 0.60–0.82. The inadequate value (Cronbach’s α = 0.43) was received for the subscale of reduced motivation in both MFI-20 and MFI-16. Correlations between the MFI-16 and HADS, STAI, SF-36, and EC measures were statistically significant (all p’s < 0.001). Conclusions: The Lithuanian version of the modified MFI of 16 items showed good factorial structure and satisfactory psychometric characteristics, except for reduced motivation subscale.

Relevance. Nowadays the researchers commonly use a limited set of standard procedures and statistical coefficients when develop psychometric instruments and investigate their structure. The routine using of such procedures without taking into account the specific features of the psychometric scales can lead to incomplete or even inadequate results. In this context detailed consideration of the structure of psychometric instruments seems to be important and it may demand various non-standard ways of statistical analysis. Objectives. To conduct detailed analysis of the results of two intelligent subtests at the item level and to assess the sufficiency and adequacy of using standard methods for estimation of reliability and structural validity for these subtests. Methods. We analyze the data collected in intelligence testing of a large sample of respondents (11335 young adults). The respondents passed the KR-3 battery. In this study we examine in detail the structure of the subtests “Syllogisms” and “Analogies”. Specifically, we estimated the reliability of the scales by the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, and the structure at the item level using the confirmatory factor analysis. Results and conclusions. Estimation of the reliability of the scales by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient showed importance of taking into account the time limitation, which is commonly used in intelligence tests. On the other hand, a detailed analysis of each subtest items made it possible to find out an additional factor which was not originally proposed in the factor structure. This is factor of higher-order abilities of abstract analysis, whilst the subtest originally aimed at estimation of the special abilities. Confirmatory factor analysis showed improvement of fit when this factor was added. The results allow to conclude that the researcher may miss the important properties of scales if not making a detailed analysis of testing procedures and the structure of subtest at the item level, and so may draw incomplete or inadequate conclusions about their psychometric properties

Introduction: The publication describes a fragment of the pharmacoepidemiologic study conducted to review the quality of management of patients with stable coronary artery disease (SCAD) in primary care over a 12-year period. The aim of the study was to justify the application of standard operating procedures (SOPs). Such determinants of pharmacotherapy as non-pharmacological modification of cardiovascular risk factors (RFs) and medication adherence were analyzed. Material and methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional, 3-stage (2006, 2011, 2018) study was conducted in a primary care setting of Moscow. As many as 3027, 1834, 805 patients with verified diagnosis of SCAD were included. Demographics, medical history, data on modifiable RFs and prescribed drug therapies were collected. At the third stage, medication adherence was measured, using the 8-item Morisky scale. Results and discussion: Over a 7-year period, better control of modifiable RFs in coronary patients was revealed. The target levels of blood pressure were reached in 58.3% (+20.7%; p &lt; 0.05) of the patients, total cholesterol – in 33.0% (+16.0%; p &lt; 0.05), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol – in 23.3% (+12.2%; p &lt; 0.05). Two critical problems that determined still inadequate RFs control were identified. The attention of physicians to RFs and rates of non-pharmacological interventions remained low throughout the study. Information on lifestyle RFs was recorded in fewer than one-third of the subjects. The lipid profile was registered only in half of patients’ histories. Non-adherence to pharmacotherapy was identified in 51.3% of patients. Conclusion: Further increase in efficacy of pharmacotherapy might be provided by application of SOPs regarding the registration and correction of modifiable cardiovascular RFs, identification of non-adherent patients and promotion of medication adherence.

Chemistry as a subject is seen by many students as an abstract and difficult lesson that bears no relationship to life. This study aimed to develop an ‘Anxiety Scale for Chemistry’, which is essential to setting an alternative for existing tools to determine anxiety for chemistry of students. This study has been carried out to develop a tool to measure the level of anxiety of students studying in the high schools in Turkey. The scale was developed as a result of the following processes: literature scan and creation of the item pool, taking expert opinions, item-total correlation, item distinctiveness features, exploratory factor analysis, Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency reliability, examination of correlation between sub-dimensions and confirmatory factor analysis. According to the results obtained, the scale is acceptably reliable for the research in social sciences. This study recommends that the Anxiety Scale for Chemistry should be administered to students of other fields also. Keywords: Anxiety, scale, chemistry, reliability, validity, factor analysis.

Due to the burden of caregiving, family caregivers of children with cancer suffer from physical and psychosocial health problems. The aim of this study was to develop a Caregiving Burden Scale for Family Caregivers of Children with Cancer (CBSFC-CC) and to assess its psychometric properties. A methodological, descriptive study design was conducted. The study sample consisted of 217 family caregivers caring for children with cancer between the ages of 0 and 18 years. The item pool of the scale was created using the Delphi Technique. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the overall scale was 0.93. The item-total score correlations ranged from 0.424 to 0.645. The exploratory factor analysis showed that the scale explained 68.34% of the total variance. The confirmatory factor analysis also showed that the factor loadings of the scale ranged from 0.46 to 0.96. NNFI, CFI, and IFI were found to be > 0.90, and RMSEA was found to be < 0.09. The CBSFC-CC was found to be a good multidimensional instrument for evaluating the burden on family caregivers of pediatric cancer patients. It can be used in clinical practice and research. This tool can be considered to tailor interventions aimed at improving caregiver outcomes.

<p>The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of indicators of good governance in public organizations to improve the level of employees’ job satisfaction. The methods were confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling using LISREL software and SPSS18 packages. The population consisted of all faculty members and staff of Lorestan University (N=500), which 217 of them were selected systematically using Kerjisi Morgan table. To collect the data 2 standardized questionnaires consisted of good governance and job satisfaction (residents and Ramadan, 2011) were used and the reliability of the questionnaire was (0.73) by calculating Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. The results of the study showed that the implementation of the indicators of good governance in the organization will lead to an increase in employees’ job satisfaction.</p>
