The Building Information Modeling (BIM) has now become a collaborative system that greatly benefits the industries involved in the AEC sector. The essence of BIM is to be a container core with graphic and alphanumeric information, where each discipline participatory dump their knowledge to suit the peculiarities of the building in coordination with the other agents involved. If this same scenario is moved to Heritage, we see that the needs are the same; archaeologist, architect, historian, restorer or engineer are at the same crossroads when it comes to passing on their assumptions and subject to debate before approval. The article will present an effective methodology to implement the stratigraphic study of surfaces. The intention is to dump the information gathered in Phase auscultation in a single graphical model, operating from different disciplines and allows inter operationalize avoiding unnecessary data duplication and contradictory. An intervention project supported by an information model of the Historic Building, which we can call HBIM Project (Historic Building Information Modelling Project) is established.

The production industry is facing increasingly dynamic market conditions. Therefore, the adaption of production systems must happen ever more quickly. However, data acquisition, processing and the subsequent exchange of information takes up a lot of time in factory planning projects. To reduce this effort, the paper introduces a method for collaborative factory planning based on building information modelling.

It is an open fact that building information modelling (BIM) have been and is still expanding its usefulness across professional specialization in the building industry. Building Information Modelling (BIM) as a new way of doing things in the building industry and it is a system that is rapidly revolutionizing entire process therein. It is also apparent that most professionals in the building industry are aware and willing to embed the BIM culture but with absolute little to no knowledge about it workability. This is the major challenges, which is as a result of lack of BIM integration to education. This paper therefore seeks prominent works of researchers in BIM and the apparent benefits so far gained and still to be gained with BIM integration to higher education in Malaysia. Thus attempting to proffer an integration strategic that will facilitate an adequate smooth BIM adoption in the building industry, this will boost building project delivery and mitigate against shortcomings of the traditional delivery processes.

Studies revealed that most heritage buildings in Malaysia are deteriorating due to poor maintenance of recorded documentation. Unfortunately, conserving heritage buildings is a complex and multi-layered process that requires collaboration between different stakeholders. Heritage Building Information Modeling (HBIM) is seen as an opportunity to establish a well-managed data collection. This paper attempts to examine the awareness, benefits and challenges of the implementation of BIM among stakeholders. Sixty-nine respondents with BIM knowledge and skills answered the questionnaire. Findings show significant attributes that could improve building conservation project performance, delivery and management, hence several challenges that need further improvement.

Traditional quality inspection of prefabricated components is labor intensive, time-consuming, and error prone. This study developed an automated geometric quality inspection technique for prefabricated housing units using building information modeling (BIM) and light detection and ranging (LiDAR). The proposed technique collects the 3D laser scanned data of the prefabricated unit using a LiDAR which contains accurate as-built surface geometries of the prefabricated unit. On the other hand, the BIM model of the prefabricated unit contains the as-designed geometries of the unit. The scanned data and BIM model are then automatically processed to inspect the geometric quality of individual elements of the prefabricated units including both structural and mechanical elements, as well as electrical and plumbing (MEP) elements. To validate the proposed technique, experiments were conducted on two prefabricated bathroom units (PBUs). The inspection results showed that the proposed technique can provide accurate quality inspection results with 0.7 mm and 0.9 mm accuracy for structural and MEP elements, respectively. In addition, the experiments also showed that the proposed technique greatly improves the inspection efficiency regarding time and labor.
