Cornus officinalis Sieb. et Zucc is a traditional Chinese valuable medicinal material. Clinically, it is customary to use ripe fruits from which seeds have been removed for medicinal purposes. The pulp contains 16 amino acids and a large number of essential elements for the human body. In recent years, with the expansion of the application of cornus officinalis, its pharmacological and pharmacological effects have been increasingly studied. At present, significant achievements have been made in the study of the bioactive components of cornus officinalis. The research of these achievements has been based on the research of the fruit of cornus officinalis. The study of branches or bark of cornus officinalis is very rare. With the fruit of cornus officinalis getting more and more attention, in order to solve the problem of the shortage of cornus officinalis fruit in the market, in this paper, starting from the study of bark of cornus officinalis, TGA-DTG and PY-GC-MS analysis methods were used to study the weight loss and pyrolysis of cornus officinalis bark, providing a basis for more fully utilizing cornus officinalis resources. At present, there are some problems in e-commerce of Chinese medicinal materials in Gansu Province, such as insufficient awareness of the development of business entities, loss of regional brand advantages, great differences in the quality of Chinese medicinal material commodities, and empty trading platform. This paper proposes to strengthen the brand building, establish a unified standard, pay attention to personnel training, speed up the construction of network platform and the Chinese medicine logistics system.

Background. Daodi medicinal material is widely used in Chinese herb medication. However, there is a lack of systematic methodology for identifying characteristics associated with good quality and reliable efficacy of Daodi med-material. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to provide some evidence to further substantiate the use of Daodi medicinal materials. Methods. Seven relevant databases were searched before July 2014. Two evaluators were responsible for screening and categorizing the results. The data was analyzed with Microsoft Excel 2007 and SPSS 21.0 statistical software. Results. Overall, 107 articles were systematically analyzed. Of these studies, 55.1% (59/107) focused on the methodology to assess Daodi med-material, and 38.3% (41/107) were interested in med-material ingredients, soil physical and chemical properties, and the geological background system (GBS). Only 6.5% (7/107) of studies were mainly conducted as clinical trials and animal experiments. Conclusion. Comparisons between Daodi and non-Daodi materials have been studied mainly in terms of the ingredients or composition of medical materials, soil physics and chemistry, and the GBS, and some identifying methodologies have been created to identify Daodi attributes. Until now, there is still no consensus of comparison criteria between Daodi and non-Daodi medicinal material. Only a few studies were conducted through animal experiments and clinical trials to determine Daodi superiority.

Thermally processed Buthus martensii Karsch scorpions are a traditional Chinese medical material for treating various diseases. However, their pharmacological foundation remains unclear. Here, a new degraded peptide of scorpion toxin was identified in Chinese scorpion medicinal material by proteomics. It was named BmK86-P1 and has six conserved cysteine residues. Homology modeling and circular dichroism spectra experiments revealed that BmK86-P1 not only contained representative disulfide bond-stabilized α-helical and β-sheet motifs but also showed remarkable stability at test temperatures from 20–95 °C. Electrophysiology experiments indicated that BmK86-P1 was a highly potent and selective inhibitor of the hKv1.2 channel with IC50 values of 28.5 ± 6.3 nM. Structural and functional dissection revealed that two residues of BmK86-P1 (i.e., Lys19 and Ile21) were the key residues that interacted with the hKv1.2 channel. In addition, channel chimeras and mutagenesis experiments revealed that three amino acids (i.e., Gln357, Val381 and Thr383) of the hKv1.2 channel were responsible for BmK86-P1 selectivity. This research uncovered a new bioactive peptide from traditional Chinese scorpion medicinal material that has desirable thermostability and Kv1.2 channel-specific activity, which strongly suggests that thermally processed scorpions are novel peptide resources for new drug discovery for the Kv1.2 channel-related ataxia and epilepsy diseases.
