Thermally processed Buthus martensii Karsch scorpions are a traditional Chinese medical material for treating various diseases. However, their pharmacological foundation remains unclear. Here, a new degraded peptide of scorpion toxin was identified in Chinese scorpion medicinal material by proteomics. It was named BmK86-P1 and has six conserved cysteine residues. Homology modeling and circular dichroism spectra experiments revealed that BmK86-P1 not only contained representative disulfide bond-stabilized α-helical and β-sheet motifs but also showed remarkable stability at test temperatures from 20–95 °C. Electrophysiology experiments indicated that BmK86-P1 was a highly potent and selective inhibitor of the hKv1.2 channel with IC50 values of 28.5 ± 6.3 nM. Structural and functional dissection revealed that two residues of BmK86-P1 (i.e., Lys19 and Ile21) were the key residues that interacted with the hKv1.2 channel. In addition, channel chimeras and mutagenesis experiments revealed that three amino acids (i.e., Gln357, Val381 and Thr383) of the hKv1.2 channel were responsible for BmK86-P1 selectivity. This research uncovered a new bioactive peptide from traditional Chinese scorpion medicinal material that has desirable thermostability and Kv1.2 channel-specific activity, which strongly suggests that thermally processed scorpions are novel peptide resources for new drug discovery for the Kv1.2 channel-related ataxia and epilepsy diseases.

(Smilax scobinicaulis) not only is a vital medicinal material plant by treating joint pain, but also it is a widely distributed wide plant species from 500m to 3100m in Mei County of China. However, understanding links between total biomass of dry leaves and daily solar radiation is difficult. This study explained that it is an increasing of total biomass of dry leaves with increasing of daily solar radiation as well as links between total biomass of dry leaves and daily solar radiation is the significant positive connection from 20.578mol/m2•d to 24.158mol/m2•d along elevation from 500m to 1500m (P<0.01); it is a decreasing of this total biomass of dry leaves with increasing of daily solar radiation as well as the links between this total biomass of dry leaves and daily solar radiation is a significant negative connection from 24.15mol/m2•d to 27.246mol/m2•d along elevation from 1500m to 3100m (P<0.01). This research provides a series of areas ecological adaptation of daily solar radiation and six landscapes of this species. Therefore, this has vital theoretical and practical significance by medicinal plant species protection for better future of human health, ecosystem services and ecosystem functions along daily solar radiation gradient.

The traditional Chinese medicine Poria cum Radix Pini (PRP) is a fungal medicinal material that has been proven to play an important role in the treatment of arrhythmia. However, the mechanism of its effect on arrhythmia is still unclear. In this study, network pharmacology and metabolomics correlation analysis methods were used to determine the key targets, metabolites and potential pathways involved in the effects of PRP on arrhythmia. The results showed that PRP can significantly improve cardiac congestion, shorten the SV-BA interval and reduce the apoptosis of myocardial cells induced by barium chloride in zebrafish. By upregulating the expression of the ADORA1 protein and the levels of adenosine and cGMP metabolites in the cGMP-PKG signalling pathway, PRP can participate in ameliorating arrhythmia. Therefore, we believe that PRP shows great potential for the treatment of arrhythmia.
