The advent of nodal elements, such as Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers (OADM) for Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) networks, has led to a myriad of possible network architectures for the optical layer. In this project we design and simulate a WDM-OADM optical ring system of four nodes, two wavelengths on unidirectional single mode fiber at data rates of up to 10 Gbps. We use a continuous wave laser as a source for each channel with external modulation. The performance of the system is reported on the basis of eye diagram, Bit Error Rate (BER) and Q-factor. Optisystem software is used to simulate the overall designed system.

AbstractA novel architecture of bidirectional gigabit signal transport system over long-haul single-mode fiber (SMF) using wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network technique is proposed and demonstrated. In order to offer multimedia services of high bandwidth, four signals of 5 Gbps data rates are externally modulated and transmitted through four channels over 100-km SMF in uplink and downlink. In our proposed scheme, an excellent bit error rate, good

AbstractData rates in optical fiber networks have increased exponentially over the past decades and core-networks are expected to operate in the peta-bit-per-second regime by 2030. As current single-mode fiber-based transmission systems are reaching their capacity limits, space-division multiplexing has been investigated as a means to increase the per-fiber capacity. Of all space-division multiplexing fibers proposed to date, multi-mode fibers have the highest spatial channel density, as signals traveling in orthogonal fiber modes share the same fiber-core. By combining a high mode-count multi-mode fiber with wideband wavelength-division multiplexing, we report a peta-bit-per-second class transmission demonstration in multi-mode fibers. This was enabled by combining three key technologies: a wideband optical comb-based transmitter to generate highly spectral efficient 64-quadrature-amplitude modulated signals between 1528 nm and 1610 nm wavelength, a broadband mode-multiplexer, based on multi-plane light conversion, and a 15-mode multi-mode fiber with optimized transmission characteristics for wideband operation.

AbstractIn this paper, performance analysis of high-speed superdense wavelength-division-multiplexing (SDWDM) optical add–drop multiplexer (OADM) optical ring network for 6 nodes, 45 wavelengths having channel spacing of 0.2 nm on 300 km unidirectional nonlinear single-mode fiber ring of 10 Gbit/s has been reported. The performance optimization of the system by comparing different modulation formats has been reported on the basis of eye diagram and bit error rate (BER). It has been reported that CSRZ modulation format can achieve BER as better as e-24, which gives best performance. This paper also presents a study of performance degradation caused by the crosstalk and the effect of channel spacing on SWDM system.

AbstractUltra-low-loss and large-effective-area fiber has been successfully applied in transoceanic transmission, which is considered as a promising candidate for 100 Gbit/s and beyond 100 Gbit/s coherent long-haul terrestrial optical networks. Several theoretical and experimental investigations have been reported, including provincial terrestrial field trial. To support long-haul terrestrial application, it is urgent to prove that the ultra-low-loss and large-effective-area fiber after terrestrial deployment can significantly enhance the performance of long-haul transmission over 1000 km compared with the conventional single mode fiber. In this paper, we extended our previous work and summarized design methods for complex terrestrial environment. To verify the fiber characteristics in long-haul terrestrial transmission, we installed the longest terrestrial ultra-low-loss and large-effective-area fiber link in the world with a total length of 1539.6 km. The results show that the transmission performances of wavelength-division-multiplexed signals with per-channel data rates of 100 Gbit/s, 200 Gbit/s, and 400 Gbit/s over the ultra-low-loss and large-effective-area fiber are all obviously improved, demonstrating that this fiber is more suitable for ultrahigh-speed long-haul terrestrial transmission.

AbstractWe have proposed and demonstrated a full-duplex wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) configuration based on reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA). RSOA is used for reusing and remodulate the downlink signal in the uplink. We have used external modulation scheme for transmitting 20 Gbps data rates in two channels over a 40 km single mode fiber (SMF). The uplink and the downlink performances are checked by the bit error rate (BER) and the eye diagrams.

AbstractHybrid Optical Amplifier (HOA) has made a significant change in Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) optical networks. We have proposed diverse hybrid optical amplifier configurations for the better performance of WDM optical networks. These configurations are SOA-EDFA, EDFA-EDFA and EDFA-Raman amplifier for 24 channels WDM optical networks at 10 Gbps with channel spacing of 0.8 nm. The performance of the systems is evaluated on the behalf of different parameters such as, quality factor, eye diagram, bit error rate and output power. The efforts are made to optimize these parameters. From the results, it is assessed that EDFA-Raman configuration gives superior results as compared to EDFA-EDFA configuration and SOA-EDFA hybrid optical amplifier configuration for long distance. Further it is also observed that EDFA-Raman hybrid optical amplifier configuration is suitable for high data rates up to 20 Gbps.

AbstractHigh-speed single-mode fiber-optic communication systems have been presented based on various hybrid multiplexing schemes. Refractive index step and silica-doped germanium percentage parameters are also preserved during their technological boundaries of attention. It is noticed that the connect design parameters suffer more nonlinearity with the number of connects. Two different propagation techniques have been used to investigate the transmitted data rates as a criterion to enhance system performance. The first technique is soliton propagation, where the control parameters lead to equilibrium between the pulse spreading due to dispersion and the pulse shrinking because of nonlinearity. The second technique is the MTDM technique where the parameters are adjusted to lead to minimum dispersion. Two cases are investigated: no dispersion cancellation and dispersion cancellation. The investigations are conducted over an enormous range of the set of control parameters. Thermal effects are considered through three basic quantities, namely the transmission data rates, the dispersion characteristics, and the spectral losses.
